I arrived…read moreabout three minutes after my appointment time, and the chair was empty and she was already ready for me. So, honestly, I would recommend arriving early because it seems like they keep appointments moving and there isn't much transition time between clients. She was very professional. I'll admit, she wasn't necessarily a warm-and-fuzzy stylist there wasn't much smiling, laughing, or joyful small talk. She was very much straight to business. She asked a few questions, although she seemed a little annoyed by the pictures I brought. She mentioned that they appeared to be AI-generated, which I honestly didn't realize. I just found pictures online that I liked, so I'll definitely try to find better reference pictures next time. A few of her responses to my questions came across as a little snarky, but I don't think she intended to be rude. I think that may just be her personality and communication style. I also got the impression that she had some questions or concerns about my color-care routine. However, instead of directly asking me about it or giving me specific feedback, she seemed to hint at her concerns. I actually would have preferred for her to just ask me directly or tell me what she thought, especially since I'm looking for a new stylist in the area and want to build a relationship with someone who can help me maintain my color-treated hair. Overall, it was a good experience. I'm pleased with the service I received, and I would definitely go back. I'm assuming that if we develop more of a stylist-client relationship, communication will become more open and comfortable, which I think could make the experience even better

My hair was cut... it's been a few weeks so my hair is getting that shabby look despite sleeping in a silk cap nightly. I noticed one braid was really bushy in the front, upon examining it, I could see it was bushy because it was my hair (curly natural texture) which had been cut while Hawa was "cleaning up the twist". My hair is a little past shoulder length so I'm hoping this is the only piece that has been cut. I knew I was in trouble when Hawa said she worked at a shop where I had previously had my hair cut from 5 braids which left me with a short patch of hair which took 6-8 months to grow back in... "Djama Hair Braiding" off Georgia Ave. If you have long hair be leery, I passed Hawa's business card out to two of my co-workers so I had to inform them of my misfortune. Pics will show my length before braiding and the twist with the cut hair... excuse the shabbiness of my twist, natural hair has a mind of its own. Fast forward to the take down (March 27th) due to her horrible braiding which she tried to cover up with cutting "stray hairs"... much of my hair has been cut! $160 for shabby braids after two weeks in addition to butchered hair that was full and past my shoulders after taking braids down. Sara is an educator and artist. Both of these skills became readily evident as she patiently explained how best to hydrate my hair and retain length. She first evaluated my color (I have varying shades of light brown and blond, but my roots had grown out by ~1-1/2in and the grays were screaming) and talked me through how she was going to blend my roots to match my existing color and would not be adding additional highlights at that time. I am OBSESSED with my color - imagine warm blond, light brown, with blond sparkles! Sara can paint some hair folks and understands tone & blending. Next, she thoroughly cleansed my scalp and applied a steam treatment to moisturize and deep condition my coils. After, she blew me out with a round brush (her hands are SO GENTLE - no pulling or tugging - and then silk-pressed my hair into a carefree tousled curl style that lasted for more than a week. The pièce de résistance was when she taught me how to pin curl the style for maintenance. I've spent a small mortgage on my hair throughout my 55-years, often with lackluster results. To add insult to injury, many stylists have balked (out loud) about the thickness of my hair. Not Sara. She wasn't the least bit intimated by thick coils and made light work of all the steps described. As soon as she touched my hair, I knew I was in good hands because she just understands hair across the spectrum. If you've read this far, you know that I'm a Sara fan. She is now my go-to stylist when in the U.S. and I cannot wait to see her for my next appointment in November. My hair is also very thick and long (about halfway down my back), so as you can imagine, I am very careful about who I go to for blowouts. I recently moved near Main St right before quarantine and after clipping my ends on my own, decided I needed to find a salon to go to when they opened back up LOL I found the studio via Google and Yelp and decided to take a leap of faith. My experience at the salon was amazing! Chantell was very professional and made me feel safe with her COVID precautions. She started on my hair right away and was kind and very gentle with my THICK hair. I've NEVER had such a pain-free experience in a salon EVER. She washed my hair with steam and carefully detangled my hair while conditioning and throughout the straightening process. I was very comfortable the entire experience and trusted her recommendations. The time flew by and even though she was able to fit in another customer while working with me, I never felt like I was pushed to the side like other stylists tend to do because of how much hair I have. I purchased a serum from her to help keep my strands in check, which worked perfectly and allowed me to wear my pressed style confidently for over 2wks and when I finally did wash it, my curls were the softest they have been after a blowout. I was truly impressed. Most stylists have suggested that I get my hair straightened and ends clipped more, but I have not trusted them enough to actually do so. However, after this wonderful experience, I will be seeing Chantell throughout the year for silk presses and steam treatments in between.
