Full disclosure - The Wagon Wheel Steakhouse is owned and operated by a high school friend so you…read moremay think my review could be biased. But as a Yelp Elite, I need to keep it real. And Wagon Wheel is definitely real. Anyone that knows me is aware that I'm a comfort food aficionado. If it's hot, fried, salty, covered in gravy - then most likely I will enjoy it. My tastebuds were thrilled to discover that Wagon Wheel Steakhouse serves the mother lode of comfort food. The first thing you'll notice when you see the servers carrying plates past your table to deliver to other customers is that everything, and I mean virtually everything, is made in house. The regular fries and the curly cue fries are fresh cut. They offer crinkle cut fries too like you can get in some fast food restaurants, but why would you order that when you can get fresh cut? The chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, the pork tenderloins are all hand breaded and fried in the kitchen. Wagon Wheel doesn't serve pre-cut and pre-fried fritters, no sir. As you can see in my picture, my pork tenderloin sandwich was twice the size of the bun, so I cut it in half and took the rest home to eat later - this made my dinner both tasty and cheap as I received two meals for the price of one. There is a small but sufficient fresh salad bar available as well as homemade pie for dessert. A full bar is to the right of the entrance and there are new flat screen TVs all around the dining room. A friend told me Wagon Wheel serves her favorite fried mushrooms and others told me their hamburgers are some of the best around - I can't wait to return and try these, as well as their steaks. When you visit, say hello to my friend the owner Linda Jo. Although she may not be easy to find as she personally spends a great deal of time in the kitchen cooking the food herself. I think you'll agree, her hands-on approach makes the difference at Wagon Wheel.

Yesterday, we made the long trek to Mound City for my daughter's softball game. There are a few…read moreoptions here for dining, but not many. So, we stopped in at Everybody's. At first glance, I wasn't expecting much. To be honest, I was kind of terrified that this place would end up on Kitchen Nightmares based solely on decor. However, that saying, "don't judge a book by its cover" applies here. In fact, "don't judge a restaurant by its wrappings" is better. We ordered fried mushrooms and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, the chicken gizzards basket for my husband, chicken strips for my daughter, and the grilled chicken sandwich basket for me. Hubby and I each got suzie-q's(curly fries) for a side, while my daughter got green beans. When the appetizers came, I was pleasantly surprised. The mushrooms were not slimy(as often happens), and it was obvious they had been hand-breaded. They were DELICIOUS. Same deal with the mozzarella sticks. My husband got a generous helping of gizzards, my sandwich was great, but the real standout were my daughter's chicken strips and the fries. The chicken strips were the largest I have ever seen, and it was obvious that they, too, had been hand-cut and breaded. Two strips were more than enough for my kiddo. The green beans were great, seasoned almost exactly like my grandmother does, with onion and smoky bacon(yes, I stole a bite!) The fries were also hand cut! No fries from a bag from this place! Our server was very sweet, and we really liked this place.i have to go back down there tomorrow to pick up some dishes I had held at a little store called "Treasure Hunters' Cove" (check it out if you're there!) and I will totally be stopping for the dessert I didn't have room for. Overall, even if the decor and such seems questionable, Everybody's is a gem of a restaurant in this tiny little town.
