Because they had dried seaweed but not kelp. Which I ended up purchasing since it was in the same family. The reason they got such a low star count is because, at one aisle smelled like fish juice. Very disgusting. The store was old and looked it, not very well kept. I would hesitate to purchase any frozen items here. At the other end, opposite of the produce, was a type of kitchen. It had a hot plate buffet thing going that had two different pieces of meat sweltering under the hot lamp. There was these rolled up questionable food item and pre packeged corn on a table that flies were buzzing around. Something that would get an F if an inspection should happen by. The prices were cheap but the product in certain areas is questionable. But customer service was most excellent!

This time also I was able to get some za'atar brioches and oh my goodness, I had these for breakfast this morning and they were delicious! I also like to get things here where I can't find elsewhere so I got some pomegranate juice, and some roasted chick pea snacks. They have quite a selection of spices here and I also picked up some roasted sesame. Lots of nuts to choose, and plenty of Middle Eastern/Arabic sweets and desserts available. They also sell hookah supplies here (not a fan - really bad for you). I hadn't been to this location in awhile and I miss that the inside restaurant is no longer open. I liked to get some of the ready made dips and sandwiches here. Bummer. Towards the back, lots of fresh sweets for sale including all kinds of baklava and there is also fresh olives for sale also! Fresh, halal meat available and also some meat that's been marinated and ready to cook. Fresh cheeses also available. I think I like the Mesa location better as I can get spinach and za'atar pies there and the fresh produce selection is better. And also you can get hummus, babaghanoush and other dips at the other location. Overall, I would say that these Baiz grocery stores are my happy place. It brings me back to a sweet and memorable time. It's worth a visit to check out all the unique items here and their pita and breads are fresh, tasty and well priced!

The store has a fresh, open feel that reminded me of Sprouts. Everything was well stocked, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. They offer an impressive selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and many other grocery items. There's also a sushi restaurant inside where you can enjoy Happy Hour specials or sit down and have a meal. In addition, they have a pizza counter where you can purchase pizza by the slice, along with sandwiches, desserts, and drinks. We decided to try their flavored lemonades, and they were absolutely delicious and refreshing. Overall, we had a great experience and definitely wish they had more locations throughout the Valley. It was about time to leave a review for Malincho's!…read more I've moved to Tempe 3 years ago and I found this wonderful gem right on University Dr. I am Romanian and it's been hard to find similar foods from back home. Malincho's has a great variety of Bulgarian, Romanian and Eastern European foods and products. Every time I go there I find some nostalgic food and sweets I grew up with as well as the classic Romanian traditional foods like "Zacusca" , "Salam de Sibiu" , "Eugenia", "Mici" and many more. They also have freshly baked "plăcinte cu brânză" which they call "banitza" or something like that. All I know is that me and my American boyfriend never leave the place without a warm one. All the ladies there are so sweet and helpful and they also have great deals in their sale section! If you are Eastern European or just an adventurous foodie, you must try Malincho's!
