One of the first things you notice about this winery is the living roof of rosemary. The entrance is around the back and you get to walk along the vines until you come to a small picnic area. This is a small family-owned winery and if you are looking for a slick, tasting room, this isn't the place for you. This was a bit of an odd visit. We enjoyed some of the wines and bought a few, but despite that they are willing to ship, the man in the tasting room didn't want to ship them for us. He insisted it would be much cheaper for us to ship them ourselves. While he was probably right, I was then forced to lug four bottles around in the heat and it was a bit irritating. It's not a bad place to visit, but realize you may get some push back if you want to ship wine home. ETA - Within a few hours of me posting this the owner reached out apologizing for my experience. I appreciate an owner being concerned when someone walks away with a less than perfect experience and I am adding a star to my rating. I'm guessing my shipping issue will no longer be an problem if you visit. Go here, relax and enjoy some Zinfandel.

It was a lovely day. I was the designated driver and didn't drink but I loved the view.

Super excited to bring these babies home.

Walked in to see first crush! The owners are incredibly gracious folks and I simply can't wait for the 2012 Pinot Noir to release!

We chose to drop in Marine Layer Wines. The tasting room is located in a very nice area in beautiful downtown Healdsburg across Healdsburg square. Parking is accessible all around the street and Healdsburg square. The modern decor was beautiful and bright. There were plenty of tables and couches to accommodate all different size parties. The vibe was inviting and family friendly. There was a cozy fireplace in the front as well. We ordered a glass of Lyra Pinot Noir and a glass of Aries Chardonnay. My Pinot Noir was smooth while the wifey's Chardonnay was crisp and refreshing. The wine was great quality. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Marine Layer Wines. The staff was nice and helpful. We appreciated the family friendly environment. It was nice to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas, by relaxing with a nice glass of wine.

Incredible wines, incredible views, and most importantly absolutely fantastic family running the vineyard. They have awesome member events - And super affordable price to join the members club. Incredibly stunning property. The people pouring the wine are so generous and kind. I hate going winetasting and the people are so snobby and rude that is not the case here they'll chat with you and actually show you the vineyards of the wine that you're drinking which is super cool.

It can't be that hard to open a winery, right? Wait...how do you make wine? I guess it's not all that easy. However, the folks down at MoniClaire made it look effortless. And given their expansive property with breathtaking views of the Sonoma Valley, luxurious infinity pool and adorable wine tasting room I'm sure they are perfectly content with their decision to have opened a winery. This was our last stop on the Platypus tour and was also the most beautiful. Words really don't do the property justice, but the views were by far some of the best I've ever seen. The owner spent nearly an hour with us. We started in the tasting room where we had a few pours and tastes of cheese. We were then escorted through the property and over to his personal home and deck where we were able to snap photos overlooking the beautiful views of the wine region. The owner told us stories about the vineyard and we learned about how he quit a job in Silicon Valley to pursue his dream and named the vineyard after his two daughters. Our stop at MoniClaire was the perfect ending to our day of Sonoma wine touring and left me wondering one thing. Can I move in?

Mark is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate in what he does. You do have to make a reservation ahead of time though for tastings. But it's definitely worth it! That one-on-one attention and interaction is priceless. The barrel room in the back was so cool. I love all the cute chalk drawings on the barrels. Mark walked us through the process of wine making and we even got the chance to try some from the barrel! Mark's co-owner, his brother James, lives in Denver-just a short drive from Colorado Springs, where I live! Honestly, I don't remember which wines I liked best because I liked all of them. But we ended up getting a bottle and have been saving it for a special occasion until we get the chance to go back. Definitely looking forward to returning soon!

Mark greeted us by the door of the tasting room/production facility which is just off the square. He spent time walking through the winery's history and how he and is brother run the business. By the end of the tasting we had talked about wine, food, music, documentaries, and much more. Mark made it feel like we were all siting around the kitchen table just talking about wine and life. I liked this setting (one group at a time with 100% participation) much more enjoyable than most other wineries we visited which have more of a bar/restaurant feeling where the server would just pour your tasting, give you the one sentence blurb they learned about it and then disappearing to help other tables for 10-15 minutes until it was time for your next pour. We started the tasting with their "White Wine" and Viognier. We then moved on to the reds including Pinot, Zin, Merlot, Malbec and Cab. They were all very well made and quite tasty. Ended up purchasing 3 bottles to go and a membership to be shipped later in the year. I'd definitely recommend others putting Blanchard on their list of places to visit in Healdsburg. Appointments are needed as Mark only does one group's tasting at a time.
