Hi! I'm not usually the type to review places, but I feel like it should be done to prevent other people from having an experience like mine. Thankfully, it was a gift of mine from a close friend that this manicure was done, so he had paid for me. I regret letting him pay for it. Upon walking into the shop, I asked for something that I thought was relatively simple: "gel, white almond-shaped nails." When my first nail tech started (I say first because there were three people working on my nails throughout my two and a half hour stay) I noticed that she didn't wear a mask, nor wash her hands. Figuring that this was just a preference-based decision at other nail shops, I let it go. She began to remove my previous red gel polish with a drill, but sloppily so. There were still noticeable portions of red polish on my nail. After finishing one hand, she moved onto another patron and came back to my hand about 8-10 minutes later. Following that, I was immediately placed onto another nail tech to do the shaping and repainting. I specifically asked for almond-shaped nails and after reapplying the acrylic in large, streaky globs, it seemed as though a rounded square shape was the closest we could get to almond-shaped. I relented, seeing as how we had already spent 30 minutes on the preparation. Then came the longest part of my patronage. The same nail tech, for the next 2 hours continued to paint, and repaint my nails. The first two times, I accepted it as my error for maybe moving when under the light, but during then next 4-5 times I became sure it wasn't my fault. I figured that it may have just been a difficult color to choose because maybe the formula for the white gel polish was tricky, so I suggested choosing a different color to ease the process and have me on my way. This suggestion was ignored, and I let it go. A third nail tech became involved when seeing the repetitive errors of the second nail tech. (She had apparently forgotten to put a top coat on my nails. So when the acetone was used to clean the polish off my skin, it ruined the polish on my nails.) It was only then that I realized the second nail tech wasn't completely trained for what she was doing. She was using me, someone who would be paying for this work, as practice. Normally I wouldn't have an issue with this, but using a paying customer as practice is just unacceptable. Just imagine if I had a function like a wedding the very next day, and my nails were to look like this? That would be extremely embarrassing. What's even more ridiculous is the price of these same nails; $27. I left feeling so dissatisfied with the service and even more ashamed that my friend had spent nearly $30 on inadequate nails. My suggestions? Ensure that your nail techs CONSISTENTLY wear a face mask, have them and your clients wash their hands, and do not use your patrons as a means to practice (and if you do, do not charge near full price if the work is not worth it). I'm very sorry if this review came off as abrasive or harsh, but it is my honest belief that this shouldn't happen again. I only want to support my black business owners and see them grow, but I cannot see this growth until acknowledgement is made to vital errors such as these. read more
