Allison does a great job with nails! I found her on Groupon and got a pedicure and gel manicure and had the best time chatting with her in the process. She is the sweetest person and quite funny too! I never had so much fun while getting my nails done, and it's usually because I can't understand the nail technician :) it was a nice change. I've had my gel nails for almost a full month and just chipped my first nail. They have lasted longer than expected, and plan to come back when I'm ready for a new coat. read more

I've gone to Allison for 13+ years now and I LOVE the way my nails come out each and every time! She always takes her time with me I've never felt rushed. She is the most flexible person and always accommodates my schedule. I've gotten many pedicures by her, I'm always impressed and they last so long. She is also very very very reasonably priced. Probably one of the worst manicures I've gotten. I came in to get my acrylic nails filled and repainted and my friend got a full set of acrylics. - Her "salon" is actually a desk in a room between a hair cutting salon and a liquor store. There were constantly people walking through and shouting. She didn't have anything to process credit card transactions so my friend and I had to pay our bill in the liquor store. Super unprofessional and to be honest I should have known she wouldn't do good work just based on the location. - Her fill is significantly, noticeably thicker than the rest of the nail, which I had done at a different Rochester salon, Wonder Nails (where you should definitely go instead of here). My nails now look lumpy and misshaped. - I asked her to shorten my nails but keep them almond shaped and she screwed up the shaping so badly that she had to add extra acrylic to the tips to reshape them. I had to tell her how to shape my nails properly for like 10 minutes before I gave up. This was after her bragging that she's been doing nails for 30 years and never uses plastic tips, only forms them herself. You would think that after 30 years she would have gotten good at her job but I guess not. A few nails are crooked, like the tip of the nail is off center from my finger. I had to reshape them myself when I got home. What kind of nail tech can't do an almond shape? - She had a tiny selection of colors and did a terrible job painting my nails. She didn't wrap the color around the tips which doesn't look good and she absolutely flooded my cuticles with polish. I could have done a much better job myself and I'm extremely annoyed that I spent money on such awful, ugly work. - Two friends came with me, one came for a full set of acrylic nails. Allison gave her pink and white french tips without even asking if that's what she wanted. She also shaped her nails badly and unevenly, and the acrylic is EXTREMELY thick. - Finally, she made an off-color, slightly racist comment about how "Chinese and Vietnamese owned places will lie to you" to try to get more money from you and when I made a face her response was "I'm only saying it because it's true". I have never had an experience like that at one of those salons and I'm unsure why she thought that comment would be appropriate. The hilarious thing is that she charged $2 more than the last (Chinese owned) salon I went to and her work wasn't even close to comparable quality. It makes me sad to look at my own nails and at the earliest possibly opportunity my friend and I are going to literally any other salon to get our acrylics thinned, reshaped, and repainted. I've never gotten acrylic nails done before, and this was not a great first experience. First and foremost, Allison seems like a very sweet lady. Groupon led me to her "salon" (a desk in between a liquor store and a barber shop) in Spencerport with one of my closest friends, whose nails I've been envious of for months. Neither of us had ever gone to Allison's salon before. I had stated that I wanted acrylic nails while calling for my appointment. She did an unsatisfactory job shaping my nails. I requested almond-shaped, and they ended up uneven, off-center, and my thumbnail had a horrible edge on it. She may be good at square nails, but as an "experienced nail tech" it should not be too difficult to create almond-shaped nails. I expected better. I intended to get maroon nails, but without asking, she assumed I wanted them a traditional pink and white. Since I am not experienced with the process, I didn't know when it was appropriate to stop her and ask for a different color, and before I knew it she had applied a clear gel topcoat and it was too late. Granted, it was my fault for not being more assertive, but I would've appreciated her asking instead of assuming what I wanted. The worst part was the thickness of my nails. I asked for them a bit thinner, and she took only a tiny bit off the top, so I gave up asking about that and hoped I'd get used to it. My nails felt heavy and painful. It looked as if I had some strange fungal infection. I am a designer and artist and the ability to use my hands fully is crucial. Using my tablet stylus hurt, as gripping the pen put pressure on my nails. I expected some initial pain/pressure, but it was overwhelming - and unappealing! She also made several off-color comments about Vietnamese and Chinese nail techs and how they'll "rip you off." I went to a different nail salon soon after this experience to get my nails thinned, re-shaped, and re-painted. I was charged $10 there for fixing the mess that was my nails, and I'm incredibly happy with them now. They are all perfectly even and a proper thickness, with no pain whatsoever. Ironically enough, this nail salon was run and employed by Vietnamese women. If you are going to insult your competitors, at least have an equal level of skill to offer. Additionally, Allison hugged me and my friends on our way out, which was a strange level of intimacy for someone I'd met several hours ago and moderately uncomfortable. I am not one that is a fan of being touched by people I don't know well, but I didn't want to be rude. This put me in an awkward situation that I did not like.
