They are really nice here and quick, but the quality of their work is not great. my nails are all different shapes, uneven, and the nail polish is incredibly thick.. it's also all over my fingers and they didn't bother to take it off.. i'm bummed because they're pricy, but the work isn't justifiable. read more

I needed my nails done on Saturday, my regular place was booked until the early evening & I couldn't wait that long. I work out in the studio next door to Helen ' s Nail & Spa, so after barre class I walked over and inquired if they could take me without an appointment. Mistake number one. I walked in & there were three techs working with three clients. Noone said anything, so I just waited at the desk until someone acknowledged me. finally someone looked up & mumbled an annoyed 'help you??' I told them I didn't have an appointment & was wondering if they could fit me in for a manicure. The girl yelled something to the back room then looked at me & said 'yeah, ok.' I started to look at the polish & an older lady came out of the back, walked over to where I was & yelled '$5 dolla more.' The place was so quiet that when she bellowed at me it was so loud the other people getting their nails done looked up. No greeting, no hello or even a smile - nope. '$5 dolla more' I asked her what was $5.00 more? She pointed to the OPS Infinite Shine bottle in my hand. I said that's fine & followed her to a station. I should have left, mistake number two. I got the impression I was bothering her, like she was in the middle of something when she was called out & was so annoyed that I was there. I'm sorry, but if you couldn't take me, you should have just said you don't have an opening & that would have been the end of it. So she zips through my manicure, I pay the $18 (still not sure what the $5 more is for), tip and she paints my nails. The phone rang, someone answered it, but it was for the woman doing my nails. She takes the call and says to me 'ok' - she picked up my purse & car keys and walked over to a drier. She placed my stuff there & left. Oh, I guess I'm done here. She did not say a single word to me. Awkward. I got up & went to where she had dumped my stuff. I dried my nails & left. Noone said bye. My nails look like crap. I have posted a picture, she got the polish on my skin & there are bubbles all in this mysterious $5 more polish. My nails are actually less shiny than they would be with regular polish. I had a rejuvenating facial at Helen's Nail and Spa and I must say it was worth every penny. My face felt so clean afterwards. Helen was very thorough with her extractions, and as gentle as can be expected. The seat that you lie on is heated and very comfortable/ relaxing. She then works her magic...it's a blur of steam, warm and cold towels, massage, mask, deep cleaning/ exfoliation, and lotion. Oh, and extractions. They have a special right now where after 3 visits, you can get a free facial. Helen and the rest of the staff were also very sweet. The is a great place to pamper yourself. I was very disappointed when I went to my pedicure appointment today, and the person at the front desk asked me, "If it's OK can I come back in 20 minutes. " I thought that was very rude considering that was the first welcome that I had received after hello. Annoyed, I did leave and come back. It was a Saturday and where else was I going to get an appointment at short notice! After I went back in 20 minutes and accommodated them, I was not offered a further apology or discount on my service for the inconvenience. The prior owner, whom I have been going to for twenty years, would never have let that happen. They lost a customer today even though my pedicure was good. read more

My question for anyone who wrote something negative is did you ask to speak with the manage or owner? I can assure you customer service IS important to them, and have found the staff professional, and friendly. I would hate to think someone did not bring it to the attention of someone to fix a bad encounter. Helen's prices are fair, and while they are maybe not the cheapest in South Jersey, you get what you pay for...a clean salon, an experienced, friendly technician and return customers. I love Helen's Nails. They are always super friendly and accommodating. I typically get a mani and pedi. They take their time and really give you the best service. The salon is very clean and organized. I usually just walk in and never have to wait long. They use hot wax on your heels to get rid of dead skin and hot stones to massage your feet and legs for no extra charge. The owner Helen is super nice to her customers and her staff. This was my first visit to Helen's and I found it based on other Yelp reviews. I had an appt on a Saturday morning for mani/pedis, when I arrived on time there was one other patron in the salon. I was greeted and told to pick out colors. I chose one for my pedicure and one for manicure. The colors I chose had labels that said "lasts 11 days", so I decided to give it a try as opposed to my standard Essie nail polish. Helen did my pedicure and did a nice job, my feet look great and she dipped my heels in paraffin. My manicure was done by a different nail attendant. He encouraged me to use a different nail polish than the one I selected. He assured me that it would last longer and was elegant. Both colors were similar so I agreed. He also did a paraffin dip on my hands. My total was $37, so I got out my debit card and showed the $10 off Yelp coupon. He told me the coupon did not apply because the paraffin discount was greater. I asked again about using the coupon, but was told I could not use it. This was disappointing and I felt as though what was being advertised was not being honored. I paid and still tipped generously. Not even two days later my nails were chipping and I noticed what appeared to be two different colors. I believe he painted them one color and touched up with the color I actually had originally chosen. In conclusion, my pedicure still looks great almost a week later and I was also given a small sample of lotion as a holiday gift that was given out to customers. Overall, I am happy with my pedicure but nothing really struck me as great. I do not think I will be back based on my experience. read more

There are certainly neighboring salons that are less expensive, but in my experience, they are dirty and the staff is rushing through your service. That is not the case here at Helen's. Again, I was able to look passed the costly pedicure ($27). Since i was sporting a bump I needed to go somewhere that did not have a strong smell of chemicals. I remembered when i came here almost a year ago there was no harsh stench. I came on a weekday afternoon and was immediately serviced after picking my color. My pedicurist, Emily, did a fabulous job and was such a delight. I hate awkward silence during pedicures but we chatted nicely as she did her thing. Went to Helen's for the first time today after recommendation from my mom and it was awesome! All of the employees were very conversational and polite. The team was able to fit me into their schedule, but I would recommend calling and making an appointment over walk-ins because they have a lot of regulars. I got a gel manicure and a pedicure. Be warned! There was a very big language barrier and when they told me they wanted to work on my husband's callouses during a pedicure; they neglected to mention it was an additional 10 dollars. Nor is it on the sign. When the pedicures ended, they told me men's feet were $10 more. Then backtracked and said it was because of the callouses. Would not refund. This place is tucked away in the corner of a little shopping center and what a great find! The staff was very welcoming and made us feel special. They truly cared about us being there and were interested to hear how we found the salon. The owner Helen was there along with her daughter who were both pleasant. It's truly a family owned place that has a mystical vibe. It's fresh smelling (not like normal nail salons) and very very clean! The time spent on my toes and hands was used wisely. You will not feel rushed at all. My pedicure was very relaxing and complete. It was more of a spa pedicure with a great price. She took her time and made me feel At ease. When we moved to the manicure chairs they were nice enough to accommodate my friend and I to sit next to eachother. Helen's daughter came around to ask us some personal information and then proceeded to award us with a first time customer gift certificate for the next visit and a reward card. For every 40$ spent at each visit for 5 visits consecutively I will receive an express facial!! This was a very nice gesture. Helen is a licensed aestheticians and this is one service that is not usually available at nail salons. I will be very interested in having a facial done here.
