There was a man and a woman working, and the man started on my nails and was very very friendly. Very soon after starting Michelle took over. At first it was very quiet and what I normally expect at a salon, and then we got to chatting. I learned that they had to shut down due to COVID and just reopened to try and build their business back up. Her ADORABLE kids kept pestering her to play games, and I didn't mind as I a mama myself, and she is doing everything she can to keep their business open to support her children through all of the chaos. She did a wonderful job on my nails. I will forever come back to see Michelle, I think she is doing an outstanding job as a nail tech and as a mama, and hope for bright things in the future as businesses start to recover from the pandemic.

(My background is business management so I have an idea of what I am speaking). The first time I walked through their front door in November, I have been treated with respect and friendliness. I don't have an ear for languages and every other salon managed by people of Asian descent that I have patronized, I have found it extremely difficult to communicate with the employees which I find frustrating. Everyone at Mystic speaks unaccented or southern accented English for which I am grateful. My first experience was with Kieu (she goes by "Q"). I had been having acrylic nails and it has caused a lot of damage and flimsiness. I had about gotten to the point that I was ready to cut down all my nails and try to grow out the damage. Kieu explained a new healthy option that was available called SNS that was just as strong as acrylic. The next time I made an appointment, Teal (the owner) applied the SNS and I have been their biggest fan ever since. This stuff is amazing. My nails are growing longer, staying stronger, and looking better than ever in my life. Not all the technicians are authorized to apply the SNS but once Allen applied it, I knew I had found the nail tech for me. She (yes, Allen is a lady) does work that is so close to perfection that it is amazing and I'm very picky. I have a hard time not "helping" while she works on my nails making it an added obstacle for her. I'm getting better about fidgeting but Allen has handled this with humor. She's a sassy little thing so I'm sure it has crossed her mind to throat punch me especially when I glued our fingers together. Several different people have done my pedicures with regular polish and I have been pleased with them all. (The herbal pedicure is wonderfully relaxing). I've had my lip waxed also. All the employees are kind, courteous, helpful, competent, and personable. I enjoy them all. The atmosphere can be chill or outrageously fun. They will ensure that you are satisfied with their work before you leave. I wanted a fleur de lis during Mardi Gras. When Kieu didn't love her handiwork, she wiped it down and turned the chore over to someone from New Orleans who was more proficient at that design. They carry the SNS in about 150 - 200 color choices. I am not a fan of the currently popular flat hues. I prefer opalescent shades from a few years ago but there aren't many of them. I also love bling and their choice of glittery colors is fantastic. When I wear one of those, I usually get a couple of compliments on my nails wherever I go even from little old men. As the saying goes, "it may cost a little more but it's worth it." A set can last me from two to three weeks. If you aren't absolutely thrilled with your nail salon, do yourself a favor and try Mystic.

The lady that did her mani pedi didn't really speak much English so the nail tech that was doing my nails explained to her in detail what she wanted. We both got our pedicures and moved on to the nail technicians stations. My daughter and I were not seated together so when I finished my gel manicure I walked over and noticed that my daughter's nails were not French manicure. She is only 16 and wasn't really sure of the process. Well, we were told it was too late to go back and she needed to continue with the solid pink nails. My daughter was so disappointed. I was a little heart broken for her seeing her upset. The other thing that bothers me about this place is that I'm not so sure they are using clean equipment. I didn't see any sterilization and no one opened any new packaging.

It was very different process than I'm used to when I get gel manicure elsewhere. The technician was fast and applied the polish nicely. However, once I left and was in the sun I noticed there were bumps and bubbles beneath some of the nails. The tips were rough and no polish applied to the tips, so you could see the white of my nails at the ends. Some of my skin still had a few small spots where the polish wasn't removed with remover. My daughter's nails look great, her technician did a great job. The atmosphere was ok, it was bright inside. The waterfall glass feature on the wall has lots of mold at the top. It needs to be cleaned or removed, can't be healthy for the workers in there on a daily basis. Also, there was a time when all salons were using sanitized packs, so you would know all their tools were clean and safe. This place definitely does not abide by these rules. Nothing was sanitized. We were there early (just as they opened) in the day and the clippers being used looked very dirty. As well as the cuticle cutter, it was very unclean looking. They definitely did not clean the tools/utensils. I'm not sure we will be back at this particular salon.
