The proximity to downtown Madison--approximately a 20-minute drive--allowed us to easily access daytime activities while enjoying the hotel in the evening. Guests benefit from a huge parking lot and impeccably maintained facilities, including pristine rooms, modern bathrooms, a fully equipped fitness center, and a saltwater pool kept at an inviting temperature. Family amenities, such as the 24/7 coffee station and the lobby's compact TV/game lounge, were particularly appreciated by my kids and husband. The complimentary continental breakfast stood out for its quality and variety, featuring hearty options like fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, oatmeal, and an assortment of cereals. Breakfast was the highlight for my kids! Staff members were consistently courteous, professional, and attentive to our needs throughout our stay. Recommend it by far! I wish I would have taken more pictures, I don't think pics would have done it justice.

We booked ahead online, checked in online and requested the digital key. We arrived about 1pm, which is early for check in. I did not have my digital key. We went to the counter, checked in and I was able to switch to a room that was available. This hotel is very similar to other Tru hotels and just what we needed. The facility felt new or at least very taken care of. Overall this was a great stay and perfect for what we needed during our visit to Stoughton.

We were part of a large group in town for a family funeral, so we stuck it out for the two nights. I helped my mom get into her first floor room and found a hole in the bathroom door, blood on a bedspread (which was replaced without apology and some coaxing), and she found a used (hairy) bar of soap in the shower left by a previous guest. Ick. You could also very clearly hear the upstairs guests walking around. My room was on the second floor. Only staircase access found a big crack in the hallway window. I pulled out the iron and ironing board in the morning to touch up my dress. The board pad/cover had a hole in it. My mom said, "oh yours only had ONE hole, mine had two." I liked the magnifying mirror in the bathroom however all the dust on it was a turn off. I was okay with the bed. It was comfortable enough and seemed clean. Each room has a mini fridge and microwave. I was looking for a coffee maker, but you have to wait for breakfast in the morning for the coffee. Other things you expect with a lower end hotel were present, i.e. small thin towels, little tiny soap and cheesy outdated decor. The hotel is located just down the street from McDonald's, grocery and drug stores. That was nice.

On top of that the rooms were DISGUSTING. Hair in the fridge and showers, lights flickered and filled with dead bugs etc. I could have looked past all of this if it wasn't for 2 things, the price was unreasonable for a 2 night stay in such conditions, almost $300. The worst of it tho was when me and my boyfriend were getting ready for check out. As we were getting our stuff together and making sure we weren't leaving anything behind, my boyfriend found someone else's dirty boxers, socks, and condoms behind a little bench where we had my dogs stuff. I would have preferred staying in my car for two nights than in that hotel ever again.

Cameo Rose is one of those B&B's just off the beaten track just outside of Madison, Wisconsin you should enjoy at least once in your life. With the Victorian Architecture, spot-on accommodations surrounded by 120 acres of rolling hills, and my wife's favorite Fireflies lighting up the early evening you'll ask yourself, "Is this Heaven? Nope, it's the Cameo Rose." Yes, I stole that line from the movie Field of Dreams, but it's still true. Over the past 30+ years, Dawn and Gary Bahr have created a magically delicious home that welcomes you from the moment you arrive. You can feel the stress leave your body as you drive up and meet Dawn. I say delicious because you'll be in the presence of a true culinary chef. Her talents and creativity in the kitchen are truly top-shelf. Just between you and me, Dawn doesn't know how good she is. From the tasty layers in her quiche to her handmade scones, her Eggs benedict, and desserts that can make a grown man cry. Every breakfast is created with the freshest ingredients that combine to become gifts for your pallet. My favorite part of the morning is her description of each ingredient of the meal and what detailed joy goes into each expression of her talents. On a personal note, Dawn knows I'm diabetic and changed my meals which became a diabetes-friendly experience. This just does not happen in most places, and I've traveled extensively. Each morning sitting on the large front porch drinking a coffee listening to the menagerie of birds singing their morning songs or at night with a glass of wine I realized these moments are the best and most wonderful ways to start and finish your days at the Cameo Rose. Thank you Dawn and Gary, Rick and Julie, Seattle PS: There are two beautiful cranes that wander the property. We named the Libby and Delbert. Please say hello for us.

If you don't have the time to drive all the way to the Northwoods, you can still have a fantastic view of a beautiful lake, paddle around in a kayak or rent a pontoon, cook out, throw a frisbee, or borrow bicycles and ride into Stoughton (Norwegian bakery!). You can eat at Halverson's, a short walk down the road, and drink too many Old Fashions and walk back to the resort. Their food is great in the old Wisconsin way. You can come by boat or bicycle with a little planning and make a mini-adventure out of it. There are three tiny but efficient cottages and a small, medium, and large guest house. We got Cottage #1 (the one in the photo up on the hill). The cottage has a tiny but full bath and a bedroom. Naturally, you'll spend most of your time on that patio with the awesome view of Lake Kegonsa. The manager Frank is an outstanding fellow who keeps everything immaculate. He also rehabbed all these units so he must be quite a craftsman as well. He went the extra mile for us on a couple of accounts. So 5 stars for accommodations, 5 stars for service, and 5 stars for value.

I was looking for the perfect getaway for my boyfriends birthday when I stumbled upon this place. Lake Kegonsa was never a lake I had heard of until now and boy let me tell you I'm glad I did. This lake is stunning and the views you get of it from these cabins are unreal. It's breath taking to watch the sun rise over the lake in the early morning. Cabin number 2 was our choice for the weekend. The prices were very responsible especially for all the cabin had to offer. It was fully stocked with anything and everything you may need. Don't let the pictures on the website fool you, these cabins are completely updated. New appliances, new TV's and very comfy beds. Lastly, Frank the owner of the property, was very kind and inviting. When we first arrived there he greeted us with open arms at 6pm. Which was very nice because many places offices close at 5pm and he was there all ready for us at 6. He keeps the properties very tidy and presentable. Don't sleep on this place, it's not one that should be missed!!

The room was clean and had a rustic modern feel. When the carpet is beige, you know they have to take care of it consistently. Everything had a plush feel. The shower had a rainfall showerhead and a handheld. There's a scent that emanates throughout the hotel and into your room. It's light and adds to the ambiance. It's also in the sheets and linen too. I guess that adds to one of the negatives I list later in that the HVAC seems to be centrally controlled. There was some very minor debris in the sink that may have been left from wiping of a dirty rag, but that was mostly it. Gym was nice and parking was plentiful and free. What I didn't like: - Mini fridge in the room had a lot of snacks and other drinks that I assume were for sale. I usually pack my own food, so those items took up some space in the fridge - I get cold easily, so I try to adjust the thermostat, but it's centrally controlled, which I've never seen... I'm assuming all of the rooms are regulated in this way... - Breakfast bar- had bare minimal which I really don't mind. I really wouldn't expect a place like this to serve you breakfast unless it was full service. Would definitely come back
