I had two surgeries and a few follow-ups with Dr. Robert Nadler, a urologist at Northwestern Memorial. At first, I had the same first impression as I gather a lot of others have had - very rushed, more than a little condescending, and the nurse/resident do most of the work and fact-finding - he just goes in the room for all of 60 seconds and won't look you in the eye.
That said - my opinion changed completely after my two surgeries, both of which were a relative breeze with excellent results. (I do wish I was told about dilation immediately after the first procedure though - I lost time and may have had to have the second procedure because of this glaring oversight.) Most of all, however, the last time I saw the Doctor, I mentioned a problem which had nothing to do with urology. To my surprise, he sat down - the first time he ever did that - and explained to me in a few short words what he thought my problem was - and offered a solution - physical therapy of a kind I never knew existed. In one fell swoop, he did what a number of physicians less caring and/or knowledgeable had failed to do for years, and gave me a shot at a quality of life I had lost hope I'd ever had. I did the therapy he prescriped and got a new lease on life - and I am eternally grateful! read more
