I stopped at An Ox Cafe late at night with my son while traveling through Milwaukee and heading…read moreback to the hotel. From the outside, the place looked lively and entertaining, largely because there was an active cornhole tournament happening. I can honestly say I've never seen that many self-proclaimed cornhole enthusiasts gathered in one place before, so it definitely had a unique atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food experience was inconsistent at best. The cucumber salad was completely inedible. The sausage entrée had multiple hard bits throughout that felt like biting into popcorn kernels, which made it difficult to enjoy. The rice served on the side was noticeably dried out and tasted like it had been sitting for quite a while. To top things off, the restaurant automatically added a 20% gratuity to the bill. If you're heavily into cornhole tournaments and the social scene that comes with them, this may be your kind of place. If you're going primarily for the food, expectations should probably be adjusted accordingly.

These were not placed at tables but brought to the table so you'd figured they would keep it cleaned. Pho dressings (bean sprouts, basil) were old and appeared rewashed. We asked for a new plate and it looked worst. Bits and pieces of bean sprouts that were definitely not fresh. Apparently they ran out of basil so they gave us 3 old leaves. The food itself, actually had flavor. We ordered sweet pork, pho, and drunken noodles. However, they appeared to have used old chicken meat as I bite into a hard, dried piece of chicken. There is surcharge for using credit. They probably should state that somewhere. 1st and last time here.

After a couple of visits, Hidden Kitchen has landed on my list of favorite food trucks!…read more You may have seen Hidden Kitchen mentioned or listed at several physical locations because they sell pizzas out of MobCraft Brewery, offer catering, work from their food truck at various places around town, and recently set up a location with a commercial kitchen at the Eleven25 at the Pabst Food Hall at 1125 N. 9th. Street in Milwaukee. The Eleven25 location primarily sells hot or take-n-bake pizzas and fresh sandwiches. I think you'll currently get a better idea of their cooking skills from the food truck. The menu offers a handful of items, with most being seafood dishes, but there non-seafood options, as well as desserts. I enjoyed their lobster roll at the NEWaukee Night Market last summer, and recently LOVED their lamb gyro and crab cakes! They use actual lamb shoulder for the gyro instead of the strips of processed meat you typically get at a gyro joint. The lamb is tender and perfectly seasoned! The crab cakes are made with claw meat and they were perfectly crisp and delicious! I capped off the most recent meal with a slice of their key lime pie, and it exceeded my expectations. The pie crust is a bit fragile on the side, so it may detach from the pie filling when you get close to it, but the flavor and texture are right on! Now, I have their Mahi Mahi tacos and Reuben on my to-do list, based on the rave reviews I've seen on social media, but the menu changes often, so I hope I can keep up!

The breakfast items I've tried were the ham, egg and Swiss cheese breakfast sandwich and the bagel, lox and cream cheese breakfast sandwich. My favorite hands down is the bagel and lox. It was delightful packed with fresh cucumber, tomato, onion, capers, lox and cream cheese all on a griddle toasted bagel. For lunch I've had the pleasure of trying the Reuben, blackened salmon sandwich, Cubano and chicken gyro. All very very tasty and well made with great quality meats and fish. My favorites so far are the blackened salmon sandwich and the chicken gyro! These are must tries menu items!!! I highly recommend the food at this truck! I can't wait to try more menu items. I hear the mahi-mahi tacos are his specialty!

Ordered catering for Thanksgiving this year - figured why not, nothing else is the same! I'd had…read moretheir meals at Ruby Tap and enjoyed them so I thought that would be a safe choice. I chose prix fixe for four people. We chose to do ham, classic stuffing, maple carrots, pimento mac and cheese and rolls. The menu said mashed potatoes/gravy and salad were included in this choice. Pickup was pretty slick, not many cars in the queue and employees had all food pre-boxed up and ready to go. I drove the 25 minutes over there, got my box, and drove the 25 minutes home. Then I noticed that they omitted my salad. I called them and they said I could drive back out there for the salad... so I did. (in total i spent 100 minutes in the car going back and forth to get the food. On the day of thanksgiving we realized that they gave us the wrong stuffing as well. The ham was measured out by pound and we got 2 lbs for four people - which would have been fine if 60% of it wasn't fat! We ended up putting more in the dog bowl than on our plates. The reheating instructions stated that we needed to put all the food in the oven covered to reheat it, and they gave us paper lids??? So then I had to use a bunch of foil to cover all the items. The mac and cheese (which is made with penne?) had no pimentos in it (i figured the red pimentos would be easy to see) but it didn't get any love as it was BONE dry pasta noodles. Bummer. The mashed potatoes, [forgotten] salad, and carrots were good, though the carrots were devoid of any maple flavors. For $200 we all just expected more. Just another case of restaurants over-selling to the point of mixing up too many things. I probably wouldn't order from them again.

We were greeted and seated immediately, and crayons were brought over. The menu has everything you could think of on it. I settled with a patty melt and a bowl of chicken dumpling soup for myself and then mac n cheese and fries for my daughter, plus a side of pickles as she loves 'em. I missed that the pasta options on the kids menu did not include fries in the price, so... there went three plus dollars I could have saved if the waitress would have mentioned it. My soup came out right away and it was good. Not amazing, not bad, just good. The rest of the food came out and I realized why their kids menu is so cheap. A plate of mushy penne noodles and a watery cheese sauce was not what I expected... My daughter, who usually devours any mac n cheese you serve her ate just a few noodles and that was it. At least the side of pickles were good and free. Large with a crunchy exterior, they looked homemade. The patty melt was prepared as expected, and I'd order it again. Would I come back? Maybe, if I was in the area with my daughter. When you have a kiddo with you sometimes having no wait and speedy service trumps mediocre food.

Of the options I had bookmarked that I had never been to, Pat's Oak Manor was my choice that day. I went with the all you can eat beer battered cod and potato pancakes. The potato pancakes were stellar. While not crispy, they were mostly firm on the outside, so they stayed together pretty well, and the flavor on the inside was an array of potato, onion, and spices. I made a good choice and they make a good potato pancake. The beer battered cod was good, though the third piece on my initial plate was getting a little soggy on the bottom by the time I got to it due to the grease in the breading. The rest of the fish I got during my meal didn't have that problem. I was impressed with how quickly they were able to get additional plates of cod out, although I would have preferred the option of more than only two pieces at a time. Even though the banquet hall was getting full and I only saw three people waiting tables, the person waiting on me seemed to be pleasant and in good spirits. I didn't catch her name otherwise I would shout her out specifically.
