When I first began my homebuying process through traditional lenders--I was extremely frustrated by the list of reasons they gave me that made homeownership a dream. Things like students loans, low income even though I was working three jobs at the time, and astronomical housing prices made it nearly impossible for me to own a home. I had let go of homeownership when I became pregnant with my daughter. A few months after my daughter was born--I suddenly lost the income I needed to pay my rent and had to break the lease on my apartment. I was forced to live with family and then eventually forced to live in a shelter. While living with family and in a shelter--renting prices skyrocketed! I'm currently in transitional housing and I refuse to leave this program a renter. I was so thankful to learn about NACA. Where traditional lenders told me no--NACA told me yes! When I shared my happiness about the benefits of NACA my traditional mortgage friends would say "NACA's great but they expect a LOT of paperwork from you." I pointed out to these people that traditional mortgage requires the same amount of paperwork AND is a lot less obtainable for a single mother. If you're like me and have student loans, struggling with low credit, have the ability to pay high rent but can't get traditional mortgages to approve it as a mortgage payment, and want to build a legacy for your family--everything you do to get NACA mortgage is worth it. So I was advised to write a review for my participation with NACA. I transitioned from the Chicago area and Milwaukee area to Stone Mountain, Georgia. I was advised to enroll in the NACA program by my superiors at work, which I thought was very supportive. I gave it a try and it's been over 6 months. I went through two counselors. The last counselor who is the one that I'm working with now, she informed me that this will be my last appointment and that I should be NACA qualified July 25th 2022. I submitted all documents, some got lost through the system, which I resubmitted. WHICH I also got frustrated in that area. I believe the waiting period is what caused me to have anxiety and when you have anxiety you're in fear and my fear is that I have come so far that I felt like I am wasting my time. Well my counselor told me that I didn't have to feel that way and the obstacle that I was having was with my payment shock. So it's not a struggle TO SAVE it's just that if you're not budgeting you can easily fall off track. I've been ready TO OWN! Homeownership is no challenge, if I could take care of someone else's home while renting, I can certainly take care of my own home. To have a prized possession as such you would definitely want to take care of it so, I am praying and I'm holding on to faith that this be the last time I rent. Gratitude to the pioneers and the collective of the The NACA mortgage program!! I was introduced to NACA by my realtor when I moved to GA 2 years ago. Obtaining my NACA ID was a smooth process and quite informative as well. I had to pause shortly after and put the process on hold after having a change in my job but restarted again last year and looking forward to going through the next phases. Its not a easy process and quite tedious but, having to upload the required documents and keep up with staying on the path path set forth have taught me so much more about financial management and balancing my "wants" vs. "needs", building my patience and taking time to really figure out my goal of purchasing a home - there are so many facets in this process to consider. From what I see so far this is an excellent program to help offload the expenses of downpayment, closing costs and PMI which are the big ticket items when purchasing a home. The other great thing is getting a very competitive interest rate. The staff have been amazing and helpful so far from my counselor to the staff that answers the calls for which I am truly appreciative. My Caribbean elders usually say "nothing good don't come without a little work", so I will forge on, bit by bit to complete this process and I look forward, God willing, to that day when I have those shiny keys to the entrance of my new home. read more

My experience with this program was extremely disappointing. I spent months in the process, paying ongoing credit report fees and following the guidance provided by my mortgage counselors, Romelle Clinton and Melanie Conley. As a single parent with two minor children, I relied on the information I was given while planning for housing after my lease expiration. Unfortunately, after investing significant time and money, I was informed that my loan would require new underwriting, which contradicted expectations that had been set throughout the process. I felt misled regarding the timeline and requirements, causing unnecessary stress and uncertainty for my family. I was also concerned about what appeared to be close relationships between certain counselors, realtors, and alliance partners. I felt pressured toward specific service providers and questioned whether alternative options received the same level of consideration. Additionally, multiple Property Specific Letters (PSLs) were denied, and I often felt communication lacked transparency and consistency. Overall, I left the process feeling frustrated, unsupported, and disappointed. I believe improvements are needed in communication, transparency, and customer service to ensure future participants have a clearer understanding of expectations and requirements from the beginning. read more

The interest rates are Low and your cre score will not stop them from helping you to get into a home, but it does help in terms of affordability . NACA loans are based off of your debit to income ratio.so the less you the better your payment and repayment history looks the more you can afford.The peace of mind you get is that you will only re a loan and a home that you can definitely afford the monthly payments. They have helped me learn to budget and save . I have had four mortgage counselors and out of the four I've only had one bad experience.My current Mortgage counselor has been awesome wit communicating what it is I need to get done and she has been helpful, in ways she cannot imagine.I started this a year and a couple of months ago and Im still working on things , i say all of this to say Its a process . some people have gotten their home with in three months of starting the program . if tou have everything needed it can be a breeze . If not either way the help is there and your on your own timeline, stay focus on your goal. NACA is a community Dedicated to helping you get into an affordable home. We initially signed up in 2020 but after having a meeting with our counselor, we learned we still had a lot to do in order to become eligible. We didn't continue after and wrote it off. Fastforward, almost three years later, we were notified of an upcoming workshop from a relative and figured we'll go since we are again looking to buy a house but knew we would need assistance with the downpayment. We didn't know what to expect since the information was very vague when we signed up so we came empty handed and was surprised when we got there that we needed documents. Luckily, most of the requested documents was saved in our phones and we were able to upload them in the portal. We met with Art who has been amazing to start this journey with. He has been very hands on and informative with advice which we are most appreciative of. He is truly making this process smooth and we're grateful to be working with him. Overall, with any mortgage company you deal with, they have their requirements but so far we have no complaints and glad that a program like NACA exists for families who dream of owning a home but don't have the resources to achieve it. read more

When I was first informed of NACA and all that they do for those who attend their workshops, complete the onboarding process, meet with a counselor, and then work with the underwriter, they would help you with your down payment, and they would help you find your dream home. I was very skeptical, but after doing all of those as mentioned earlier, I discovered that NACA is the real deal. They do everything that they promise. I know that the process is time-consuming, but it is worth every second you spend getting your documents together. My counselor Carl W. was AMAZING, he walked me through each step of the way and he helped me to get to the house of my dreams without any hiccups. The Regional Manager Derek, was AWSOME!!!!! He was a great resource and very encouraging. I have to say that the entire NACA staff was very welcoming and resourceful and although they were there from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, they always had a smile on their faces, and were ready to answer any question, no matter how big or small. I have referred more than 13 people to NACA, and I have told them that NACA is the Real Deal and they are a GAME CHANGER!!!! read more

I am in the process of starting my homebuying journey once again. I started years ago but put the idea on the back burner for my own personal reasons. However, I come back to NACA because I know it works with no downpayment and closing costs. Not to mention the interest rate for a NACA mortgage is always below the market fixed rate. I know because I have friends that have purchased through the program. It can take time so have patience because it is worth the wait! The process has come along ways, and the member portal is so much easier to use now as you have to upload lots of documentation. I attended one of the workshops in my area last year and was setup with a counselor on the spot. Now that I am coming to the end of another lease with the complex I am at for the last 4 1/2 years, enough is enough and I am moving forward again. I went through NACA when I started out as a working professional, buying our first home. Yes, there are additional steps involved but this is only bc they want to be sure you are set up to succeed, and understand the mission/values of the program. I respect all that NACA has done to fight for fair housing for EVERYONE. We were able to purchase our first home with a comfortable mortgage, which allowed us to eventually build equity. We referred a friend who also went through the program and successfully purchased their home. They say it sounds too good to be true but in this case, NACA is legit. You really pay no closing costs (which usually would eat away at any savings you bring to the table), and are not required to put 20% down, no PMI.
