I'm a big fan of basbousa/harissa, so I was disappointed to discover that my old haunt Albasha Sweets went downhill. I've tried other Middle Eastern dessert places in this area, but can' t say I was blown away by any one place. I do feel that every time I go to Prince Sweets the desserts are pretty good, so I decided to do a fun little experiment. I looked at all the dessert places in the area and found one I had never been to -- Nablus Sweets. I went there and got a couple pieces of basbousa (and my wife got some knafeh). I then went to Prince Sweets and got one piece each of three different types of basbousa: plain, coconut, and nut-topped. After getting home I made myself a cup of herbal tea and had a basbousa showdown. First I tried Nablus' basbousa. It was nice and moist. It had a nice texture, but it crumbled apart pretty easily. It was sweet enough without being cloyingly so. In short, it was very good. My wife liked it, too. I then tried a bit of each of Prince's basbousa. I noticed that Prince's version is harder and holds together better, but that it's also sweeter since it's drenched with more simple syrup. Having a variety was nice, but it's hard to say definitely whether Nablus or Prince is better. Both are very good. In fact, I'd say these are the top two Middle Eastern dessert places in this area as of right now. If you want sweeter, then go with Prince. They have a bigger variety of desserts there, too. But if you want something traditional, sophisticated, and subtly sweet, then go with Nablus. Both offer nice desserts. The parking is tight at Nablus, but the interior feels more welcoming. Service seems friendlier at Nablus, too. Parking isn't great at Prince, either. If price is a concern, Prince is cheaper (average $2/piece vs Nablus' average $3.50/piece). read more

I ordered delivery from here on Grubhub. Almost everything I ate was delicious. All the pics will have my specific review, but pretty much all the baklava was at least a 4/5, if not perfect. Super flaky crust, the syrup was perfectly sweet and thick, and overall so freaking fresh. The baklava assortment is cut small so it is easy to pace yourself or share at a party. The warbat was the only item I didn't love. Never had it before though, but I can at least attest to the fresh ingredients. The knafeh roll was out of this world tasty though. I picked up three trays of knafeh from here this morning. I have had knafeh in Jerusalem, Nablus, and Trader Joe's. While the knafeh was fresh, it lacked sweetness..and was a bit dry Frankly, after fasting all day I could only have two bites. Trader Joe's knafeh is better. This dessert is a must try at least once in your life. The service is impeccable and you are always treated with respect. Do your self a favor and try both types of knafeh. One is like angel hair strands of sweet golden deliciousness, the other one which is my favorite has a delicate orange crust atop a warm cheesy base. Once both of these are topped with a pistachio syrup they will take your tastebuds to another dimension. Sweet goodness. I have been here a few times and they have some of the best middle eastern sweets. They have about 6 different sweets, warm and ready for you to get them. I don't know the names so I just point. They also have some little boxes with mixed sweets to take home. My favorite and the only one that I know the name for the same reason is the coulash (most likely I massacred the word, but I tried). It is sweet, creamy and so good. They also have this "pastry" that is like a layer of pastry topped with a layer of crushed nuts on top that is... mouth watering I am being informed by my sweet tooth as I write. The only down is that they do not offer any drinks, coffee, tea or even milk would be cool, according to my friend that is customary so. This place is famous for Kinafa, a Middle-Eastern dessert that is a kind of cheese topped with some kind of shredded wheat and then baked to perfection. It's orange on top and white on the bottom, with green sprinkles of pistachios on top. I don't even like Kinafa, unless it's from here, fresh out of the oven and sprinkled with pistachios. Nablus Sweets is just where knafeh dreams come true in Chicago. We live in Tulsa. Ok and it is so difficult to find products like knafeh. Mamoul, katif or any of the delicious sweets that Nablus Sweets offers. Our knafeh, Mamoul and graibeh arrived from Nublus sweets, Chicago last week and lasted less than a week. Everything was devoured so quickly by our friends and family. We could not believe how little the owner of Nablus Sweets charged for such big order of the delicious sweets. This place needs more reviews. I tried this bakery for the first time a few days ago and wondered why I never came before. The sweets are great! I got their knafeh and this other square pastry but I wasn't sure what it was. I definitely want to know the name of it the next time I go there.They were both delicious. The knafeh was authentic and contained just the right amount of gooey goodness and syrup. By the way, one slice of the knafeh can be eaten by, like, three people with a decent appetite for knafeh, lol! They give you a lot! It's amazing. read more
