After spending a sunny afternoon celebrating my besties birthday with her and a few of our girlfriends, we decided to keep the fun going with some ice cream. Never too old for a random sweet treat! Although we were already in the neighborhood, we lucked up on a day when everybody and their mama were outside, which meant limited parking. So we had to pay for parking on this visit, but ended up making it worthwhile by strolling around Decatur Square with our cones. I When we entered, there was one employee behind the counter and they were so kind. There were a few customers in front of us and some behind us in line, so apparently we weren't the only adults in the city who were craving a sweet treat. The store was so cute and covered in art and clocks created with ice cream scoops. We decided to taste a few flavors that were new to us and the employee was so patient with us. We all decided to go with the honeycomb flavor, and I added on a scoop of strawberry because I believe in treating myself. I was bummed that they didn't have sugar cones, but a waffle cone worked. My ice cream was SO good! And they were quite generous with the scoops. As I'm writing this out, I'm wanting a fresh pint of my own again. Such a great stop when you're craving something sweet!

I ordered the Cookie Monster with toffee cone bits on top. The texture of the ice cream was great, very smooth and creamy, which is exactly what you want. However, the flavor itself just did not come through. It almost tasted like a base without much depth. The only moments of real flavor were when I bit into the cookie pieces or the toffee bits, which were both enjoyable, but the ice cream on its own felt like it was missing something. It is a bit hard to describe because the consistency was there, but the taste simply did not match. That said, I am not writing Butter & Cream off at all. I have had other flavors here that were absolutely delicious, which is why I am willing to give this one another try. Overall, still one of my preferred ice cream spots in Decatur. I am just hoping for a little more flavor the next time I order the Cookie Monster.

(keep your sample spoons for your actual gelato purchase) heck...we are trying to save the planet people. Anywho! My choses was to die for. The lemon was lemony which I truly loved. That lemon tart had that one eye twirking (LOL). That's when you know you got a good lemon flavor. The strawberry was the giving every bit of spring. My grandson almost finished his Carmel coffee/strawberry cup before we got to the car. I thought that was a disgusting combination but he said he LOVED LOVED it. The plaza is anchored by a Whole Foods 365. Everything in this plaza is relatively new. There are over 1,100 Cold Stone locations worldwide, but only 7 in metro Atlanta (at the time of writing this review). I used to go to the one in Atlantic Station, where I live, but it closed years ago. I'm not sure I've been to a Cold Stone since. Visiting this location in Decatur brought back some memories. I had to get what I ordered most often at the Atlantic Station location: the Birthday Cake Remix. It consists of cake batter ice cream, rainbow sprinkles, brownie, and fudge. I got it in Cold Stone's smallest size ("Like It") for $4.99 plus tax. Only 670 calories. It was just as delicious as I remembered it. The cake batter ice cream was smooth and creamy and I really enjoyed the chewy chunks of rich, chocolaty brownie and the texture of the colorful rainbow sprinkles. I recommend it. What makes Cold Stone, which was founded in 1988, different from other ice cream shops is they have a cold stone slab (frozen granite) which the servers use to mix the ice cream with various toppings and mix-ins. Marble Slab Creamery was the first to popularize this concept (1986), but Cold Stone has since surpassed them (by far) in terms of locations. Birthday Cake Remix is one of several Cold Stone Signature Creations ($4.99 small, $5.49 regular, $5.99 large). You can also customize your own ice cream and mix-ins ($3.99 small, $4.59 regular, $4.99 large + 1 free mix-in and $0.89 each for additional mix-ins) with optional waffle cones and bowls ($0.99-1.49 each).
