This is another review for the TWST Bar walk-in service that the salon located in Silver Spring offers. Beginning on January 1, 2026, the Twist Bar will be offered Sunday-Thursday instead of 7 days a week like it was previously. As advertised, the service is walk-in only, no appointments needed. You do not choose who will style your hair, and will be placed with an available stylist. You get to choose from 3 categories: two-strand twists, locs, and flat twists (small, medium and large each have a different price) and there are a number of available add-ons you could opt into. In that regard, I will say that the flyers still have trims listed as an add-on, but when I went to the salon trims were no longer offered. I'm not sure when they were taken off, but there's still a few additional items you could opt for - check out their website for more details and visit their IG to see the small, medium, and large sizes. I choose large flat twists with a deep conditioner add on. I arrived around 240pm on a weekday afternoon, I signed in at the front door counter and waited about 5 mins before I was taken to the shampoo bowl and was washed, de-tangled, deep conditioner, styled and out of the door before 4pm. The service is as advertised: quick, efficient, and a good package for an up-front price. I'm old school so I wanted a physical book of styles to flip through but you could also select a style from the photos they've taken of clients or you could bring in a photo if you'd prefer. The salon only takes credit cards or digital forms of payment only. Purple line construction nearby can be disruptive, especially if you're driving here, but there's a nearby parking lot or parking garages within walking distance, and the metro isn't a bad walk from here either. read more

I've been eyeing N Natural Salon for weeks and finally decided to give their Twist Bar special a try--and wow, I'm so glad I did! I got there around 8:45 a.m. and was done by 11 a.m.--super quick! Michelle started me off with the best shampoo, condition, and detangle session (seriously, my scalp was happy). The owner, Angela, was there checking in, and the whole team made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. I went with flat twists in the front and two-strand twists in the back, plus a $25 blow-dry add-on. My main stylist, Finda (sorry if I'm spelling that wrong!), was so patient and sweet--she answered all my questions without rushing me. I sat under the dryer for maybe 20 minutes, then was finished off with a sealing oil of my choice. The end result? Absolutely beautiful twists! This was my first visit to this salon, and I will not be back. My appointment was at 1 PM on Valentine's Day. I was excited about looking extra cute for my evening dinner. My appointment was for a trim and curl defining style. Pros - [ ] Warm and welcome and stylist - [ ] My appointment started on time - [ ] Plenty of parking - [ ] Phenomenal trim. She definitely got off all of my old and split ends. I like that she did it before my curl definition styled and then cleaned up a bit more after. Cons - [ ] It's was a 3 hours appointment. I've never had an appt more than 2 hours. - [ ] When she finished my curl definition, there were no dryers available so I had to sit and wait about 20 minutes for a dryer. There's only 2 dryers at the White Oak location. - [ ] As others have said the process for getting appointment, especially as a new client, is very cumbersome. I almost gave up a couple of times. I respect that obtaining more information from clients help them to provide better service, but there has to be an easier way. - [ ] When it was time to style my hair the stylist did not ask anything about the type of style I wanted. If I wanted a part, if I wanted my hair into my face, nothing. She took me back to the shampoo bowl to begin the curl definition. So I had to lay there for at least 30 minutes. It was very very uncomfortable. - [ ] My previous experience in getting my curls defined was to sit in the stylist chair, be asked the questions about my style preference, for my curls to be defined in my hairstyle amd placed under the dryer for the style to dry and set - [ ] I was placed under the dryer with basically my hair pulled back on my head with a lot of gel. I was concerned that she hadn't actually styled it, but I was trusting the process and her expertise. - [ ] Given the length and density of my hair, it usually dries in 30 minutes. An hour later, I was still under the dryer and concerned about being late for my evening activities. At about an hour and 15 minutes I requested to be taken out of the dryer, she indicated that there were still some wet sections at the roots that she would have to dry with a blow dryer - [ ] The reason why it took my hair so long to dry is because of the way it was placed on my head. There wasn't enough space for airflow so the section that was still wet was where it was all pulled back on top of each each other. - [ ] Once she finished drying it, she tried to lift it up and move the hair around a bit. I did have wonderful curl definition, but absolutely no style. It's clear that all of the pictures that I uploaded during the new client process were not viewed. If they were viewed, the stylist would have an idea of the kind of style that I was looking for. Sadly, I had to wear it that way for the evening, but afterwards ended up having to redo it myself. I think this salon is very, very good at locs and two strand twists, but this is not the place for a wash and go. This was truly an unfortunate experience. What started as an amazing consult turned into me, not getting my hair done, not wanting to go with the suggested styles & ultimately not wanting to return to this establishment. My consult went well, I was pleased with Carissa's feedback, suggestions and overall care she seemed to have for my hair. After our consult which took place on Friday, January 3rd she said I would be contacted by the admin over the weekend the schedule. One thing to note, I did a in person consult which I thought meant the stylist might physically inspect my hair which she did not. Had I known this I might have opted for the virtual consult since it was a bit less expensive ($25 vs $50), however, overall I was pleased. I was ultimately not contacted over the weekend nor during the week. I tried to be patient as many business were closed and experiencing delayed openings due to the snow. On Thursday, January 9th after not hearing back I reached out to the admin via the texting number on the website. The admin was friendly and initially very helpful. We had back and forth about next steps which went on between January 9th and 10th. After awaiting a response to my last message on the 10th I followed back up on January 14th. She (the admin) kindly said she would get back to me and I never heard from the admin again. I was already growing frustrated at this point as I thought the lengths I had gone to for next steps were unnecessary and something that the studio should have taken more ownership of versus the client. A friend of mine who knows the owner reached out to her explaining the situation and I very promptly recieved a return call from the stylist I had my consult with. She was kind, as she always had been, and once again eager to assist me. The style that we had agreed on, mini twist, she suggested I get extension for which I wasn't crazy about but open to trying. I told her I had never bought hair on my own but my sister had once assisted me the one time I had extensions. She, the stylist, always offered to go with me to get hair, which I appreciated, however, our schedules didn't align. She suggested I get the hair color I got the last time I got my hair done. However, I explained to her both over the phone and via text that I would prefer a color that better suited my hair as I have a blondish color hair and the color 27 that she suggested didn't blend in my hair but instead looks like my whole head is covered in highlights. However, I went to the store to purchase the 27 as instructed despite not liking the color in hopes that the color would magically be closer to my hair color this time around...it was not. The stylists then instructed me to find a closer to my hair color, which there isn't, or a lighter color so that I could blend them. I have no experience blending hair so at this point I felt defeated and further annoyed. It took a week for me to be able to make it to the store to attempt to purchase hair but from my consult up the time of my last text exchange with the stylist instructing me on purchasing the hair that wasn't my hair color was 2 weeks...which felt way too long when I was initially told I would be contacted the weekend following my appointment. After not being able to find a color that better suited my hair, not knowing how to blend hair and having an overall feeling of extreme defeat and annoyance I decided not to move forward with getting my hair done. I therefore can't speak to anyones abilities but everything after the consult was a complete and utter let down. The booking process is very cumbersome and confusing. There are multiple intake forms all of which aren't the correct. The confirmation email included several typos. You are asked to complete a post booking feedback from that is ill timed and doesn't ask any questions related to the booking process and also includes many typos which doesn't allow for accurate feedback to be provided. Overall, this was an unfortunate experience. I had high hopes after a great consult but felt significantly let down at each step that followed. I wish I could speak to actually getting my hair done but unfortunately my experience didn't allow for me to get to that point. read more

Naturally Unethical, Scammy & Dishonest-- The new client appointment setup is pretentious at best, as they know good & well there is no 'real' waitlist for this business, it's just a way to make you feel like you're attempting to get into a super-desired salon, what a joke. The prices are so outrageous you would think you are going to a high end, luxury salon that serviced all of the country's celebrities. I had already planned to get my usual organic dye done at my regular colorist before this appointment but she was ill and couldn't. So I reached back out this salon & asked if they used organic dye & would it be possible to add this service. I explained depending on the dye, I may not be able to use it b/c my hair breaks easily if I use another brand. Heaven assigned me to Claudia & Tonia and said I could discuss it with Claudia. As I take down & prep my hair for the appointment, what do I discover? Surprise, Surprise, severe breakage from using dye that wasn't my regular brand. I arrive for the appointment & am greeted warmly by a stylist who was doing her client's hair. I wash my hands as she asks. The bathroom sink area is filthy & looks like a gas station outdoor bathroom sink, with rat traps around the toilet which you can't help but to accidentally kick. Claudia strolls in 15-20 minutes late, no biggie, stuff happens. About 5 minutes later she approaches me, introduces herself & I introduce myself. I let her settle in for another while, as she disappears into a room. She again walks near me, & my thought was to let her know of the damage to my hair currently & out of safety, I wouldn't be getting the dye. Her face changes & then she walks away & later comes up to me & told me I would be paying for the dye even though I wouldn't be getting it. I'm a little shocked by this. She then walks away & goes back into some room again. She then walks back up to me & re-emphasizes I will be paying for the dye no matter what. I'm honest but polite with her & express I don't feel like it's right to have to pay for something I won't be getting done. Claudia disappears yet again & comes back after a while as she holds a cell phone towards my face & simply says the administrator wants to speak with you. At this point, I felt like this wasn't really professional or the way to treat a 1st-time customer, but I answered the phone & Heaven, begins by asking "What's the issue?" I didn't think there was an issue. Heaven then proceeds to tell me their dye is vegan & has no harsh chemicals, & I'd be fine, totally dismissive of me telling her about my current damage. Although she was calm about it, she admonished me, tried to bully me, intimidate me & play like she was a wannabe lawyer which is ironic to me. Her words let me know that nothing about me as a customer mattered, but Claudia's time, & owner's payment were the only things that mattered. Again she didn't raise her voice, call me names or curse, but she was very adversarial & implied anything I was saying was a lie & kept dismissing any importance of what I wanted, my hair health or my experience, while stating over & over like another robot reading a script that I was going to pay no matter what because it was policy. After this, I still compromised & tried make it all ok. Claudia again acting in this weird 'stepford' way almost like she was a zombie/high robot, simply kept walking to different rooms literally never ever saying a word to me or trying to initiate any service whatsoever. I made one last ditch effort to communicate with Claudia, to gage her mindset & see if she'd speak or start any service. All I got from her were blank stares, shrugs like she was out of it & repeats of "it's policy". It was clear she wasn't ever going to do anything, & I was uncomfortable with her putting her hands on me. And why would she, she knew they had my card from the reservation setup & were going to charge me against my wishes. By this time I was disappointed & pissed because this seemed very planned to do nothing at all & just take my money, after sitting there taking Heaven's abuse. I expressed I felt very mistreated, & given Claudia's bizarre behavior & what felt like clear fraud, I was going to leave. I asked to speak to Heaven--don't know why I was being courteous by letting her know I was leaving after they'd ripped me off. I expressed that I felt this was fraud, unprofessional & there were some serious issues with the business practices & tactics used. All the staff are terrified of the owner Angela Walker, if they don't go along with her scammy practices. As I turned to walk & get my coat, the foggy robot spoke & said Heaven asked that I check my email as she'd just charged me & sent the receipt. All I've gotten from this business since are hateful texts 'declaring that's the end' after they were paid. I am currently in the process of taking the appropriate actions. It's true. All the bad reviews are true. A wash n go using $3.99 Trader Joe's Tea Tree Shampoo & conditioner. Please be so serious. Not one professional hair care product in this place. I know they know how to do finger coils because I got them back in 2015 after my first big chop. I feel they don't truly want to do finger coils because it takes time, precision and patience. I made an appointment to take place at a specific location and with a specific stylists at a set time and it was changed without my knowledge or consent. I scheduled an appointment via the virtual assistant and was told that the stylist, Olympia, was available at 6p for a flexirod set the next day. I received a quick call from them and was told that I needed to do a virtual hair assessment before the appointment. I told them I also needed a trim and that I would be fine with a flexirod or permrod set. I did the virtual assessment the next morning and they asked when I wanted to come in. After I told this lady that was doing the assessment that I was told 6p, she went off screen for a while and then she told me that I should come at 6:30p. When I arrived for my appointment Olympia was still working on someone else's hair. Which was fine but it took her another 30 mins. I didn't get shampooed until 7p. She was also the only one in the salon so she was splitting her time between washing my hair and doing a detox on someone else's hair that got there about the same time as me. I told her when I was at the shampoo bowl that I wanted flexirods. When it was time to actually style my hair, now a little after 8p I told her that I needed a trim as well and she said she did not have time to do a trim because she's supposed to get off at 9p. I also did not get a deep condition, so it should not have been an hour shampoo. After deciding I wasn't getting a trim, even though that was the reason why I was going to the salon in the first place, she then kept trying to convince me to get a coil out because it would take less time to put in and less time to dry. I asked her if it would still be similar to the way flexirods look afterwards and she said it would. She showed me a picture of "clients hair from earlier in the day that has the same texture as mine but has shorter hair". The finished product looked nothing like the way she did her clients hair and it definitely was no where near a flexirod set. After being at that shop for 4 hours and 15 mins, I got a terrible hairstyle. It looked like I had just taken off a helmet. She kept saying it would get bigger and have more volume when it gets older. As I was paying and preparing to leave she told me that if I wanted flexirods for next time that I need to schedule an appointment at 5 or 530p. Why would the people that scheduled my appointment make my appointment so late if that was the case. It was clear that I wanted flexirods. I only got this coil out because she kept trying to push it on me and it was awkward. So now I'm out $135 and over 5 hours because I had to go home and fix my hair after wasting my money. I went for a cut, wanted my hair to be shaped but got basically what I walked In With but a bit shorter. Then the stylist combed out my 3C curls so that it was a complete frizzball and called it done. When I complained via private message, they suggested it was my fault for booking the wrong thing and promised to get back to me. That was 4 days ago. Silence... But anyone with any knowledge of 3C curls knows not to comb it dry and leave it like that. I went to N Natural Hair Studio today to get cut my medium-sized afro to a tapered cut. I booked with Tonia because she's shaped my afro before and the precision and detail with which she cuts hair is SUPERB. Since we're in COVID times, there were only four people in the shop: me, Tonia, another stylist, and her client. We were in separate rooms. Even though it's not as busy, the music was playing and the shop is still a relaxing environment. Tonia's hands are blessed! The care and time she took to cut my hair is an exceptional experience. I can't recommend her enough. She's also so kind and lovely to talk to while she's doing your hair. My hair came out exactly how I wanted it (I did send a photo of what I wanted beforehand). The owner, Angela, is doing her thing with the business and is really working to create a haven for black girl magic in the White Oak area of Silver Spring. She prioritizes customer service, maintains the shop beautifully, and creates a calm and peaceful environment. She is also not afraid to get her hands dirty in the work of service delivery, as she styles clients as well. I have had both Angela and Keisha style my hair several times and each time my locs are well moisturized, never tight, and smell great. I always leave fabulously coiffed. It's a bonus that N is building community as well as a clientele. But what sold me on it was the genuine concern and respect they all show for natural hair. After going natural (and heatless), I initially had trouble finding a quality hair salon with reasonable prices and staff who can style, protect and grow natural hair, AND educate clients on how to maintain their hair between appointments. Also, they are the only place I've ever found that will wash and treat your hair before applying hair extensions. I usually book with Tonia, Angela, and Carissa (my hair MD), but everyone I've seen has been great. Genuinely love this place and glad to have found a salon home I can trust with my hair. read more

I really wanted to like this place.... Like another reviewer mentioned, I walked in and was barely even recognized. Today was my first time at the salon and it will be my last. Upon entering, I got a quick hello from one of the stylists and nothing more. I stood there for a moment not knowing what to do and finally asked a client in another room if where she was sitting was the waiting room and she said it was. So I sat. I arrived 5 minutes early and the stylist that was washing my hair and doing my trim arrived 15 minutes later, 10 minutes after my appointment time. They push so hard to not be late, but then it is okay for them to be late. My "consultation" was anything but. She asked to see my hair, never once touched it, examined it, nothing. I left with no more information that I could have received from Google or YouTube. Fast forward to the stylist that did my flat twists... she said she had to modify what I wanted, due to the length of my hair, which I agreed to. Once she was done I was quickly moved to the dryer and never even got to look at the finished style. Usually you get a spin around to face the mirror, a hand held mirror, something. After my style was "set" one of the assistants sprayed my hair with oil and then prompted me to pay. I was told Skye's service fee was $70/hour when I made the appointment, but had to pay $75/hour. When I inquired about the difference there was no explanation, no customer service, nothing. I don't understand business models that say they are about customer service and fair pricing, but then aren't honest and don't live up to it. I will be back on the hunt for a natural hair stylist. This "business" is clearly about the money and not about creating a culture of lifelong business. Ok, so I've been here a few times. Some of the ladies here are dedicated, sweet, just lovely people (Skye). Others are short with you and late (at least 3 times, though they do text you when they're late and I've gotten $10 discounts after waiting 30+ minutes). But honestly, what is with the attitude? I've had someone say to another stylist, after she delayed my 9am appointment, that she couldn't do early appointments anymore because she was too tired? Like, you couldn't tell people that before? And then to say it in front of the customer that made that "early" appt? I'm not a stickler, I get it, it's hard out here. But after 6+ months, at least 4 appts later, the attitude, I'm going somewhere else. Also, I don't know if this is a regular occurrence but I've tried to get appts with the same stylist a week, sometimes 2 weeks, in advance and have had a hard time getting the same person. Maybe it's common to have to reserve 2+ weeks to make appointments? They looked at me like I was crazy when I said I had been with 3 different stylists here, but I tried, saw no appts available and needed my hair done. So, I've waited quite a while to write this review. I've been going to N Natural hair salon on and off for about 5 years now. I've been natural for 12 years and it's hard to find a good natural hair salon in Montgomery County, at least that's been my experience and continues to be so since I will no longer be a client at this salon... As other people have noted, it can be hard to book an appointment with them because sometimes they have receptionist, sometimes they don't. I'm often asked to text the day and time I would like for an appointment and then wait for a call back. Fine, whatever. As long as I'm seen. This review is going to be mostly about my last visit to the salon. This was a few months ago and I was actually serviced by the owner, Angela. I requested the goddess/stitch braid cornrows that were really hot last summer. I asked for a late appointment accommodate my schedule, I believe it was a 6PM appointment. I had to wait at least 20 minutes before being put into the shampoo chair despite arriving early for my appointment. Now, like I said, I've been going to this salon for almost 5 years. I remember back in the day, they refused to do styles that required hair to be added. I guess they got with the program realizing that braids and extensions are really hot now. Anyway, so I'm in the chair getting my cornrows and Angela had commented about how she recently came back from New York or Philadelphia after a training session with a woman who taught her to do the goddess/stitch cornrows. That made me a bit nervous because it seemed as though she was still kind of new to the whole technique. But what was I to do? I'm already in the chair and she's there doing my hair, so we pressed on. Because she was so new to the technique, we didn't finish doing my hair until almost 11PM. At that point, I could tell she was tired, because she was almost rushing me out of the salon, not giving me enough time to look over the hair with a mirror. I will say that while the cornrows themselves looked decent, the biggest problem were the ends of the braids. I was very SHOCKED and disappointed when I got to my car and thoroughly inspected the braids. The ends of the braids were very CROOKED, very JAGGED and of different sizes and lengths. There was one braid of particular that was significantly shorter than the others which she had added hair to to lengthen it. That braid ended up being thicker than all the other braids and the end of it was very blunt and not tapered like it should have been. I was simply HORRIFIED. There was no way I could wear the braids out as they were and ended up having to go to use some gold wire and other hair adornments that I had at home to wrap and disguise the ends of the crooked, uneven and just overall all JANKY braids. I believe I paid $85 plus tip for about 6 cornrows with horrible looking ends. Again, my hair was done by Angela, the OWNER. I expected so much more in terms of service and quality of the hairstyle. I was thoroughly, THOROUGHLY disappointed and vowed never to go back to the salon that not only overcharges, but also inconveniences you on a regular basis. Their advertising is superb. Their promotion is excellent. From the look of their website and the email blasts that I still get to this day, you can never tell that the salon actually operates in such an unprofessional manner. Well let me start off by saying it's not a very nice salon. The pictures were nice but they tricked me! The person who shampooed my hair kept it in and did not rinse it out. The stylist didn't know anything about the style I was trying to achieve. And to top it all off, I paid $25 to have a 'consultation ' about my hair over the phone, $45 just to keep the appointment I booked and $90 for a service that sucked!!!! I am disgusted at what Sheema's charged me and how she treated me , but I firmly believe that you reap what you sow. Angela offered to take care of my hair personally when I revisit DC., and Angela explained that Sheema's service is not reflective of the salon. 2/28- book way in advance for Deneen!! She's books up quickly!! Had my first appointment 12/5/2015 with Deeneen for a flexi-Rod set. This was my first natural hair-do appointment. I arrived early to find the location and while the GPS will lead you past this place, it is actually situated in the White Oak professional building complex. Upon check in with Khadijah, who was warm and welcoming I was seated in the shampoo room. Less than 5 minutes of being seated, the wash and conditioning process began. The head massage was nice and my hair was soft, detangled and clean. Deeneen appeared and we talked about my desires either flexi rods or finger coils but basically the same result however the older the flexi sets get the better it looks is what I heard! We decided on flexi rods on top and coils on the side. The flexi Rod setting took about 40 minutes and I sat under the dryer 25 minutes. Deeneen finished it off with an olive oil finishing spray and separated the coils! It's super cute and I'll be back in 2 weeks!! Great job Deeneen! This story starts off well but unfortunately my time with N locs did not end well. It pains me to write this; I want to believe so much in a female owned Black business but the egregious behaviors and service I experienced leave me no choice but to write this review. I don't want the same thing that happened to me to happen to anyone else. It has taken me a year to write this review. I even went back one last time because of my initial positive experience with N Locs. 2 years ago..I was working the most stressful job of my life in Southeast DC at school that was experiencing day after day. I stayed and pushed myself to limits that affected my health. I was actually let go (happily) trying to make it to a hair appointment with N Locs salon. My healthy mid back length locs of 5 years began breaking off in the middle as well as falling out at the root. I could only attribute it to the stress I was under. Carissa was sensitive calm and went to work professionally. By the time I left with a few extensions and deep conditioning, you could barely tell I had experienced any breakage, extensions, or overall damage whatsoever. I should mention up until the point of this job; I was reguarly compliemented on the health of my locs. I had "the locs everyone dreams of." Carissa got me back on track and helped me recover from a disaster. She gave me instructions on how to care for my hair at home and I followed them. I even started taking hair vitamins and refrained from manipulating my hair as much as possible. Cue a few months later; I come back. My hair is not as bad as it was after leaving that treacherous job but it's not back to it's old self. It was around Christmas time and I wanted my hair to look nice before I went out of town. I started noticing tension coming from Carisssa. She kept asking me "what I was doing to my hair." I tried explaining to her the stress I was under because of my job.."people are quitting every day." I left my conversations with her feeling as if she were paying for the hair services and not me. I distinctly remember over-hearing her walk away from a warm intimate conversation with a familiar client, towards me saying "this bitch." That's when I knew my suspicions were correct. She didn't have the decency to just tell me she didn't want to do my hair. So instead she did my hair with malice, condescension, and just so much vile hatred. I remember feeling embarrassed that the whole shop could hear how she was talking to me like a child. I'm a naturally soft spoken woman working on my assertiveness; so please reserve your jugdment and remember how sensitive hair is in the Black female community. I could not believe the owner, who seemed like such a sweet soul, did not chime in. I promised myself that would be the last time I visited N Hair salon and considered not paying. In fact I regret paying; no customer deserves to be treated that way and rewarded with anything. A year late; after researching the restorative work I would need done on my hair. And realizing I would have to travel out of state to have it done; I betrayed myself and returned to N Natural salon. As soon as I walk in the owner made a snide disingenuous compliment about the "Christmas colors" of my outfit. I was wearing burgandy and a scarf with black, white, green, and burgundy *kanye shrug*. Carissa proceeds to barely speak to me as she does my hair. She engages in a snide, under-handed a conversation with the owner working next to her. The owner makes comments about "how much patience she has." They're laughing and making side jokes like high school girls. It was disgusting. I was so disappointed. I believed in their vision but there was no inkling of sisterhood or the "consciousness" we wrongly assume comes with wearing hair natural in my last three interactions at this shop. Anyone with 4z hair can relate to the feeling of being treated differently at beauty shops. I've spoken to Black women who can relate to seeing Beauty Shops as a place of shame and internalized self-hate turned outward to a sister. I thought I found the anti-thesis to my lifelong experiences with Beauty Salons a N-locs but I found quite the opposite. I can take hatred when it comes to a man or a woman who doesn't look like me. But there is a unique hurt that comes from a sister. This is not about me. You may not have this experience; just be wary. For the future success of N-Natural Salon I would recommend holding strict boundaries about styles you're willing to service. If you think someones locs are damaged beyond repair; respectfully turn them away. I would also encourage the ladies of the shop to work on their "bedside manner." Not every client is going to be your best friend but they are still a customer. Treat them with the tact and respect you would like to be treated with in one of your most difficult moments. Very talented hair dressers on staff, unfortunately, they lack professionalism, promptness, and do NOT know how to take the direction of their clients' needs. And this is very concerning when it comes to a NATURAL hair care salon.... I booked with N Natural on 2 different occasions: one right before Thanksgiving and the other right before the Christmas holiday. For reference, I have short, tapered hair with shaved sides and I just wanted 2 strand twists.. My first appointment was at 11a. They state in their "Policy" that their "Clients's time is just as important as their stylists." I work a very very busy job and my time is very precious. They did not start washing my hair until 11:30. After waiting for about 10 additional minutes after my hair was done, they started my consultation....Then they started on my hair around 12:00.... I told my stylist, Kish, that I had somewhere to be by 2p. With that in mind, she started quickly on my hair. About 20 minutes into doing my hair, she stops to work on someone else's hair for about an hour......AN HOUR. About 2 other stylists came in and took turns on my hair. I don't mind the efficiency, however, it was hard to keep describing how I wanted my twists to fall and lay. The other stylists that came in and were twisting my hair were asking great questions, but they did not follow through with any of my directions of how I desired my hair... I ended up being late for my 2p engagement but they subtracted 20 from my entire total and I gave that as a tip to my stylist. I HATED how my hair turned out at first because it was the exact opposite of how I wanted my hair to lay. I tried to reschedule an appointment but I was far too busy. After a few hours, the style grew on me and I decided to give the salon another chance and go again. BIG MISTAKE I make another appointment, this time for a Monday and I have the entire day off. My appointment is at 10a and of course my stylist Kish is late 45 minutes. She starts my hair right away and so far, it's going well until I ask for my ends to be trimmed......... She cut off 4 inches of my natural tapered hair.....off the top.......of you know anything about tapered hair....you know the height of the hair if EVERYTHING. I have a feeling that she knew she cut too much off because she didn't even charge me for the trim. I'm just deciding to loc my hair after this last visit because they have screwed me over greatly. If you made it this far, and you are a person who cares about heir time and money, do NOT go to this shop. It is not worth the anxiety. read more

I called last night and the woman who answered said she was getting ready to go the the shampoo bowl and asked me to text my info and what I wanted done to the same number I called (the number listed on their website). I sent the message around 7:00 pm. It showed my message was read. 11am the next day, I still have not received a response. I'm trying to get my hair done and I don't have time to wait for someone to respond to schedule me an appointment. Smh Very, very rude. I'll find another shop because evidently this shop must not need anymore business. 3 day later I received a call but the call was a day late and a dollar short. The most unprofessional "natural hair care salon" they have modified hours for New Year's Day (11:00am to 3:00pm) and I called and luckily was able to book an appointment for 12:00pm. I drive over an hour away to meet the door LOCKED at 11:55am. I called and called for the 45 mins I sat outside hoping and nobody answered. I also sent texts. They never respond to calls and also save your money and go elsewhere. They do not use professional grade products on your hair. They use the CHEAPEST products (Trader joe's) which might be good for home use but if you're paying professional prices, I expect A grade products. Not the best in the metro area so please take your money elsewhere. read more

My overall experience at N Natural Hair Studio in White Oak was terrible and I will not be back. The only good things were my shampoo - the person was friendly and washed my hair with care and attention - and the detangling the stylist did after my wash - she took her time and was very gentle; I didn't feel a thing. That's where the good stuff ends. For starters, the $25 virtual consultation you're required to do is a complete waste of time because, even though I told the person exactly what I wanted and was quoted a price, I had to retell everything to the stylist when I arrived and ended up paying $100 more than I was quoted. My $250 shoulder-length marley twists ended up being $350. Why? First, the person who does the scheduling added an additional 30 mins to my appt after it was set even though I had a visual consult and told her exactly how I wanted my hair. After I sent a text confirming my twists would be shoulder length and not any longer, I was told shorter twists actually take more time than longer twists (what?!!) and would require an extra 1/2 hour. Fine - but I was not told the extra time would cost more money than the $250 I was originally quoted. I didn't find out until I checked out. Second, I had to pay for another 30 mins because the shop didn't have someone to "finish my twists" after the stylist started them. She specifically stated that if they had a person there to help do my twists, like they normally do, "I would have been done by now" and that was around 11:30am. Because of that, the stylist didn't finish until noon. So, I was charged $50 for additional time. How was that my fault in any way? My $250 marley twists ended up being $350. Then, to top it off, the stylist totally messed up the length when she trimmed them at the end. I specifically told her I like to wear my twists up. She told me I'd also be able to wear them down. Well, after she cut the twists in the front too short to pull back with the rest of my hair, I have to tuck in about 5-6 twists to make it look right when I wear it up. And I cannot wear it down because she did not cut them in any style - they are all different lengths and the ends are ragged. Looks a hot mess. The icing on the cake, however, is that the front parts weren't even. So I had to take them out when I got home and redo them myself. The wonderful shampoo and detangling didn't outweigh the negatives. I will not go back to N Natural Hair Studio in White Oak. read more

I've had the same stylist since I've been natural. Moving to DC meant trusting someone else to wash, detangle, and braid my hair. With that being said, I was a very nervous and skeptical about going to a new salon. Hair type: 4C very kinky/coily and tender-headed I received my wash and deep condition by their lovely shampoo girl ( I didnt get her name - she had blonde locs) She took her time detangling my hair and messaged my scalp. It felt amazing! I received my trim and cornrows by Carissa. Carissa was lovely! She also took her time with my hair, especially with cornrows! She also gave me tips to help grow the back of my hair. Overall, their staff were warm and welcoming and my hair feels clean and smells amazing! I am beyond happy with the services provided at the N Natural Hair Studio! Worth every Penny! read more

I was a little weary about the shop because of all the upfront fees and some of the negative reviews, but my daughter wanted to get her hair done professionally. I did a virtual consultation for my 14 year old daughter for a pricey $25. We spent 20 plus minutes talking about how the salon works, which I could read on the website. I booked the appointment for the following week during our consultation. I was prepared to pay 30 dollars for a deep conditioner, even though I can by 2 large containers of my favorite deep conditioner for this price. I called the day of the appointment to confirm and they never scheduled the appointment. Then, I had to call back a couple of times to figure out what happened. Then I am told I need to pay $35 to book an appointment. Needless to say, I saw all this as an omen, that this is not were I want to spend my hard earn money. read more

I booked an appointment to get a haircut due to having heat damage in the front of my hair. The only choice on the website for a cut was a Big Chop. I selected this but explained in the comment box that I wanted the heat damage cut off and then to consult with the stylist regarding my options based on how much length I have after the damage was cut. This was also agreed upon via text. When I was in the salon, the stylist immediately said Big Chop. I told her no, explained again what I wanted. She then said Taper? I said no. I didn't have an exact style in mind because I didn't know how long my hair would be after the damage was cut. However I didn't want to go too short. She had me show her styles I liked in Pinterest. The one she liked was shorter than I wanted. I said only if that's how short I have to go. She then started cutting in the back of my hair. Um the damage is in the front. I'm convinced that she just wanted to do what she wanted. She told me I looked scared. I said yes because I am. She was nice and kept bringing me mirrors to see what she was doing but what was the point, the hair was cut. She gave me a wash and go. She stated that I had a lot of shrinkage but still had plenty of hair to do all sorts of styles. And kept saying that now it has a good shape. I went home and it looked smooshed in the back like I had been laying on it. Day 2 it was difficult to part in order to oil my scalp. Day 3 the gel was gummy and white in spots. I washed it and there are still stringy pieces in the front. The whole point of the cut! My twists are half the length that they were before I came in. I hoped that I would be able to wear my own hair for a while but the cut is ugly. It doesn't suit my face and it is harder to do at this length. I'll be making an appointment to get crochets (somewhere else) and ordering shears to trim it myself for the next year. I consider it a lesson learned because I didn't have a definitive style in mind, but I will not be returning. read more

The N Natural Team is one of a kind. Getting my hair washed & twisted there is always such a vibe. The "sit back & relax" reminder on the ceiling was so thoughtfully placed and earned them the 5th star in my book. The other stars are due to an authentic feel, VERY skilled stylists & overall loving foundation laid by the owner, Angela. This is def the place to go for you natural hair needs & the location is conveniently placed in Silver Spring. Looking forward to my appointment post-Covid. read more
