Several times when I went they had an employee by the front door making sure that people who were coming in were wearing masks. Also since I had such a negative experience with the mask situation at their store before, I tried out them for delivery. And I must say their deliveries are awesome. It's so easy and convenient. Ordering online is super simple. They deliver right to your door. If you have any issues with your order, they are very cooperative in fixing it. Delivery is a great option to use with them if you don't want to go to the store.

They looked at me, looked away, talked to each other, laughed... When the one who was supposed ask to help decided to say something, he stayed at a distance and murmured, "do you need something?" I replied, "you think I'm just standing here..." He quickly looked away. So I followed up and asked, "so you're not gonna help me?" He was more interested in downplaying the encounter.

One of my favorite things about K&Y is that they have lots of produce (especially Asian ones) that you can't find at TJoe's: for example, gailan (Chinese broccoli), baby bok choy, whole artichokes, broccoli rabe, butternut squash, Thai basil, serrano peppers, just to name a few. Their roma tomatoes are so much riper than TJoe's as well. In addition to produce, they have lots Asian goods that you can pick up without going to Chinatown such as sesame oil, curries, rice noodles, etc etc. This is a family owned place that also runs Atlantic Fruit & Vegetable. Can read more about this business here: http://southbrooklynpost.com/2010/01/k-y-veggies/. Highly recommend this place for fresh produce at very reasonable prices.

Asian Bok Choy located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn is a place where you can get the…read morefreshest vegetables and meats. It is not a public store, you would have to order via email. Does it work - you bet! Due to the latest pandemic era that we are all experiencing, have not even been out much let alone write a review for yelp. Who has time for yelp - come on! (Ok, maybe for takeouts, as such.) But this time, yours truly could not help but create a new yelp review for this business. They floored us completely with disbelief - as I will soon tell you why. Let's start off with some background info. Year 2020 - Month: March/April/May - the unprecedented isolation stay-at-home period. Many of us have been quite afraid; to go out, see anyone, touch anything, and so on. Groceries have been purchased online and some random shopper will drop it off in your doorstep, then ONLY to find out that your requested items were sold out or was substituted. On top of that, as days go by, the time slots to even OBTAIN a delivery time has been a nightmare. We went from checking our usual texts/email/social media to what is now worrying for each moment to see if a time slot is available either on Fresh Direct, Instacart, Prime/Wholefoods, etc. And even if you happen to see a time slot in front of you, it gets taken by someone else who was spotting it a millisecond before you. All that has been a totally nerve-wrecking new ballgame for many. So in very hard times like these, we cannot help but to find a silver lining. We value the front line essential workers and all those who risk their lives each and everyday for the community, city, state, country and world. We are to be grateful for all that we do have - as unemployment rate rises and our country's overall morale have gone to record low. Compared to the larger picture, finding an available grocery time frame does not seem so horrible. The reason is because we still have hope and when we have a positive outlook, we find even the smallest things in life to be a huge blessing. This is leading to the business that has been created and reviewed for yelp. The photos all speak for themselves. The order was via email and the entire list was made available the day after. Pick up and packaging was done so fast, and a phone call was made to let you know it is ready. Although there is no delivery option, the pick up factor was worth the freshness, quality and superior service. One thing that stood out most was we were able to witness a true account of another customer who had a cart packed with all the groceries. It filled precariously past the top and an employee helped to saran plastic-wrapped the ENTIRE CART from bottom to the top, except for wheels; leaving nothing exposed. This was done so that none of the germs would contaminate any of the groceries. They did not have to do that, but they did. That touching scene alone, left many of us speechless, it went far beyond any words spoken or anything we are going through at this time - because it shows dedication and generosity to utilize time, plastic wrap, effort, and commitment to help one another. Prices were reasonable, and totally appreciative that there is no gouging and funny business. This is a shout-out to the entire staff and company at Asian Bok Choy for being an exceptional essential business to help our community and entire city. The items available were many types of meats (fresh), basic grocery items (fresh), frozen foods (looks great and is fresh), and of course, fruits and vegetable (once again, FRESH). Please see photos. Since our initial purchase, we have helped to spread the word, and have gotten additional pictures from friends who also placed orders too. So far we know that a friend from Connecticut and also from Long Island, that took our suggestion to also support the business. Further, we are expecting more will soon follow. There is also no minimum purchase (thank goodness)! Simple - email for a price list and submit your order via email. Confirmation comes back in one day and prepared/ready for pickup the next day. Check to make sure their timeline. Customer service was above and beyond our expectations, but also be mindful this is a very busy period as more customers are being limited to their usual supplies. May I also suggest that if you plan to order and pick up - to please honor their time frame and do not come like 2 days later, this is not fair to the owners and workers who have worked hard to put your items together. We will continue to update with photos and additional feedback. My second order is being placed as I am finishing off this review, yay! Asianbokchoy@gmail.com

It is easy to miss, because the shop does not look like it is open to the public. Inside, there are a few shelves with Asian staples and condiments and stacks of boxes and crates everywhere. But the best stuff is not on view--you have to ask for it. They sell hard to find ingredients like stalks of lemon grass and kefir lime leaves. They also sell fresh vegetables, but again, they are not on view and you just have to ask what they have. The staff are really nice and don't seem to mind at all when I come in to buy small quantities of things. It's extremely cheap, example: one stalk lemon grass, can of coconut milk, dozen lime leaves, dozen fresh Thai chiles, and small piece of fresh tumeric root came to $3.50!

This place is amazing. Not quite the selection of Wholesome Foods across the street, but I think…read morethe produce is more fresh. I'm moving out of the neighborhood at the end of the month and this will be the only thing I miss. The staff is mostly Korean and all friendly, keep the place clean, stock good organic produce. (Prices are good- the only place you're going to find cheaper produce is Key Foods, which is cheaper because it smells like literal human shit and sells rotten food. Do not shop there). I love the uncommon Korean and Japanese products they stock- you can't find this stuff anywhere else. My favorite thing is the basket of onigiri "rice balls" next to the register. Not the best onigiri, but again, you aren't going to find onigiri anywhere else in fucking Crown Heights. If you buy it fresh (check the date) it's pretty tasty, cheap, and you can eat it on the go for breakfast or dinner. Calbee Shrimp Chips must have been invented by Satan because they are too fucking good. They stock fresh Udon noodles, Korean seasoning like Gochujang and Kombu, and even makgeolli (sometimes) in the beer fridge. Beer selection is good. I particularly like the chopped vegetables they stock in the produce section. usually if you're buying pre-chopped food it's way marked up. These boxes are cheap, and make it so easy to cook a quick dinner after work or pack a lunch in the morning. They also have pre made chickpea salad, seaweed salad, kimchi, hard boiled eggs, peeled fruit. All very good if you're short on time (and if you don't eat meat). I'm laughing at the other reviews for this place that give low stars (Amanda C. and Mandy M.) I looked through these people's accounts and they are filled with outraged stories about employees being rude to them. Here's the thing: if you think everyone is rude to you, it might be because :::you're a fucking asshole!::: If you are an asshole, people are not cheerful and friendly to you because you are repellant!

I recently learned of this store from the owner of a new Turkish restaurant that opened in my…read moreneighborhood (read my review of Effes, should you like) because I noticed that he had an giant bottle of cured sumac. I asked where he got it because I've been looking for some (and by some I mean a lot) and am totally unwilling to spend $12.00 dollars for a little bougie glass bottle. He told me about Vintage Specialty Foods! Listen: once you've used cured sumac you can't go back to powdered sumac. Q: Wait. What?? What is sumac anyway? A: Sumac, from the Arab word summaq, meaning dark red, is a spice made of the dried berries of the rhus coriaria shrub. It grows wild and happy in arid rocky environments; think Sicily and parts of the Middle East like Iran, but also in North America. Sumac berries are ground into powder or chopped and preserved with salt (this is cured sumac) and used to flavor or finish beans, vegetables, meats, poultry and fish. I've even had shortbread flavored with sumac and it was O_o. Sumac has been prized by First Nations ancestors for its medicinal values since wayback days but its tart, floral and fruity taste--kinda like if sour cherries and sunlight plus a garden could be distilled into a moment--is a flavor that we highly prize in our current small plates-make it snacky-but-not-just-tapas zeitgeist. I learned that Vintage Specialty Foods has a small, yet solid Turkish spices section--both bottled and bulk. I grabbed at least half a pound of cured sumac :D I also got some isot or urfa biber https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urfa_biber and nigella seeds (known popularly as black seed or black cumin). Vintage is a lovely, well lit, jewel like specialty grocery, known for its bulk bins of dried fruits & nuts and enormous selection of candies (some which are sugar-free) as well as its teas, coffees and biscuits. (I got some gorgeous dried fruit tisanes and a giant bag of melissa, too!) In the back of the store you'll find a wide selection of olives, Turkish and neighboring nations' cheeses, yogurt and fermented milk products, as well as a small butchery. In the front of the store you'll find sweet buns, Turkish pastries, rusks, breads, and a coffee and tea station. The staff are calm and professional, if not super cuddly. Perhaps this is cultural? No matter, you're here for the goods not necessarily affection! I will say Vintage shoppers are a dedicated, focused bunch so if you're more in the mood to browse and contemplate purchases, you might feel a bit at odds at first, but soon enough you'll get into the opportunity to elevate your kitchen vibe and find yourself the very happy consumer of a number of tasty treats. Covid protocols: Everyone was masked up. It's up to you to be on top of your own six-feet apart measure--which is hard in a small shop--but can be done.
