We just bought a new house and it came partially furnished. The previous owner was kind of enough to leave all the major furniture he had, including some couches. After about a month in the house though my husband decided he didn't like the couches and we should get some new ones. We went to about five furnitures stores in one weekend. We ended up buying something, going home, realizing it wouldn't fit/we didn't really like it, and then canceling that order. Tired and frustrated we decided to give it one more go, but this time we would try Macy's. I'm so happy we did. Macy's selection is more expensive, but with that price you get a better quality. After wandering for a few minutes we were approached by a salesperson. I can't say at first I was too excited to see a salesperson. I was sick of salespeople by this point, but we were in for a great surprise. Our salesman was named John. John was a dream to work with. Friendly in a non fake way, no pressure, and very knowledgable. He "bored us" with his extensive knowledge of leather and the different types of leather we should be looking for. He also was very style conscious, and explained what colors/sizes would work in our room. It was great because he really explained everything to us in an approachable way. He kept joking he didn't want to bore us with the details, but it was that attention to detail that sold us on him. One piece of knowledge he gave us was if someone says bonded leather leave (bonded leather is crap, and the first couch we got was bonded leather after the guy told us how great it was). John listened patiently to our concerns and questions, and he really honed in on features we would like. We left that day not buying anything but we felt much more confident in our search. After talking it over that night we decided to only get one new couch, but we did get the couch John showed us. John really took the pain out of furniture shopping. 1/100

Unfortunately I did end my visit early. When it comes to customer service there's a fine line between doing too much and not doing enough. No prospective customer wants to walk in and be treated as if they're invisible or don't belong. On the flip side, and overly attentive salesperson who hoovers and wont allow you to browse at your leisure is no better. My experience was the latter! As soon as I walked in the sales gal said hello, asked what I was looking for, complimented my shoes and shirt, blah blah. From here, I would have been fine with a 'let me know if you need help'. However, she was a bit intrusive with questions, and too opinionated with how I decided to conduct my visit. At one point I advised that I had visited other stores earlier (since she asked) and her response was 'we all pretty much have the same thing and same price so you wont find much difference'. I replied with 'so should i leave?'. During her line of questioning and overload of info that I had no interest in, I advised several times that i'm comfortable looking on my own, thanks for the help I'll go look around, I appreciate the info I'll let you know if I need more help. Needless to say I finally made my escape and was able to test mattress which were different than what I already saw. However while testing just two, I notice her watching me, like a lion waiting to pounce. At that point, what little interest I had exited and so did I. I would be open to returning, but only if she;s not there.

Out of panic in hopes to replace it quickly I called the Mattress Firm closest to me which was Maplewood. When I called your Customer Service Rep and spoke to the Manager at the Maplewood MN store he told us the mattresses can "sometimes be 75 inches give it take 2-4 inches" and that it would be 3 weeks before I could return it! I explained to him there is no disclaimer telling me this ahead of time and my son was coming home the next day from the military and I needed a full length bed! I asked if I ordered a different size would they be able to deliver it the next day and take the defective one and he stated No. They have a 3 week policy and to prove the mattress is defective I had to flip it over and then measure it and if it comes back as 73inches it's still not defective and I would have to keep it. I hung up the phone and I cried. My Husband called back and asked to speak to the General manager about your insane policy and after telling him no 3 times they finally told him they would put in a request for a call for us. Since we ordered the mattress over the phone they were able to track down that our mattress came from the New Brighton Blvd store so We got a call an hour later from a "Senior" manager not the general manager who says his name was Brian who consistently antagonized us and told us the same thing and refused to take the mattress back! The customer service was so horrible it felt like they were making a mockery of us and giving us fake names on purpose as if this whole thing was a joke. My heart still hurts over the whole thing and I've already contacted the BBB. Here we are a week later and I still haven't received a call from the GM.

After 6 mo the tables showed signs of warping in the wood. We also had weird spots start showing up on the top of the sideboard (it was always covered with a piece of custom glass). Mike the store manager was so understanding and helpful and let me exchange it for a different piece (we did have the extended warranty). Then, we went back and bought another table for our kitchen. We purchased the Oliver. Once it was delivered, it just didn't look right in our kitchen. And when we fully extended it with the leaf, there was large gap in the middle and it was very noticeable. We went into this store within two days and stated we would like to exchange it for something else. Sam was obliged to do so, although we were told we had to pay a 20% stocking fee. We did end up exchanging for a different table at scandinavian design, but we did end up having to pay a $300 restocking fee. Seems excessive especially if you're exchanging becuase of a product your not satisfied with. So my advice is to make sure you ask them to open it if there's a leaf and really, really pay attention to the quality before you bring it home. We will still continue to buy from there.Although I will pay more attention to those aspects.
