The desserts and savories stood out as more handcrafted and gourmet than other similar caterers in the area, and the theatre staff were extremely complimentary about their helpful team, interesting selection, and reasonable pricing. I learnt that The Market also donated items to one of the nonprofit's fundraisers, and their real and continued support of the community is a huge plus in my book. Since then, I've used The Market for catering 3 times. The first was a mini platter that owner Emel custom-created based on my preferences, and the quality and variety--even at a small platter size--were a surprise and delight. I appreciated her meticulous and hands-on work, and this first order made The Market my go-to caterer. The other 2 times were recent, for 60-80 person events, and I worked with Paola for both. Though the platters seem much less customisable now (maybe it was only possible with Emel), it was a smooth and easy process to select from their online catering menu, which sufficiently and accurately described each item. Paola responded within 24 hours to the online order form and provided the opportunity to review the proposal before taking credit card payment over the phone. She is wonderful to work with: everything was timely, efficient, and reliable. Of note: the grazing board (high quality and luxurious), the raspberry bars (my absolute favourite--I hope they never stop making these!), and the fresh fruit platter (indeed fresh and ripe, elevated with surprising/exotic fruits). I've been glad to continue recommending The Market's catering service to friends. Note: at the moment, delivery of catering orders is not available on Sundays.

We sent multiple messages and voicemails that went unreturned for several days. Just as we were getting ready to change plans and look for a different vendor, we heard back (they had been out on vacation). We decided to still give them a try. (Note: the owner response below suggests that they responded within 24 hours, but that doesn't match our experience - I think this misunderstanding is due to the fact that two of us coordinating the event had reached out to the Market . My initial inquiry submitted on their website went unanswered, and so a couple days later my colleague tried to call and left a voicemail. Eventually my colleague was able to connect with them to place an order. I actually never received any response by phone or email.) The food arrived on time, but the delivery team forgot part of our order. We tried calling both of numbers on the invoice associated with the Market, but they both went right to voicemail. We eventually got a hold of the delivery team and received our missing item halfway through our event. The portions we received were very small compared to the description. For example, "32 tea sandwiches" seems like 4-5 normal sandwiches sliced into 6ths - wild to pay $2.25 for each tiny sandwich slice. The quality of the ingredients seemed mediocre for the price (e.g. the bread seemed like basic bagged sandwich bread, sliced into uneven rectangles). The chicken skewers - the most expensive item we got - were surprisingly small. "Watermelon feta skewers bites" were about a third green olives (not listed in the description) which our guests found unappetizing - we would not have ordered this item if that ingredient had been disclosed. Salad was 99% plain mixed greens (the amount we received runs about $6.99 retail for organic mix at a specialty store). On the whole, most things seemed like we could have gotten similar-or-better quality items for a quarter of the price through Whole Foods. The plating for items was nothing special - again, supermarket take-away platters look about the same. It's really hard to justify the price we paid for the items we received. All in all, we found the service, food quality, and presentation to be unimpressive and overpriced, and the communication/delivery snafus made our event prep more stressful. Perhaps we caught them on an off day, but we were expecting more given the glowing Yelp reviews. Based on the experience we had, we'd recommend working with a different caterer.

They answered all my questions and were very patient. They were able to adjust and customize to suit my needs and were easy to work with. I chose a meat, a seafood, and a vegetarian for my entrees but I'd never worked with them so I was unsure of their quality. I asked if I could do a tasting and they were more than happy to accommodate. They allowed me to pick a couple entrees and some sides to try out and I picked it up and brought it home to test. After all that, they kept in close communication to discuss my needs for things like rentals of chafing dishes, tables, etc. On the day of the event, they arrived 90 mins prior and set everything up. Since it was a "drop off" catering, they had everything sealed with plastic wrap, lit all the sternos, then left it for us to unwrap when ready. We chose the chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, and the eggplant green curry (vegetarian and G/F). I was worried about the salmon since it tends to overcook, but i was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Not overcooked at all and super tasty! We also ordered sushi and other sides. None of it disappointed!!! After the event, they came and picked up everything. Really great tea to work with. Will definitely work with them again in the future.

Lisa and her staff were outstanding!…read more I hired Luau Factory to cater a retirement party for my boss at Stanford University. Initially, Lisa told me that they were fully booked the day of our event, and that all she would be able to provide would be drop off service, unstaffed. I really needed a full catering staff, with servers for this event, and really wanted Luau Factory to do the catering. I had another vendor lined up just in case, but based on Luau Factory's Yelp reviews, they were my first/best choice. Lisa heard my plea, and despite being on vacation in Hawaii with her family, she communicated with me via phone and email throughout that week to plan our event. She managed to arrange for full serving staff, a bar tender, and Polynesian dancers for our entertainment. What a rock star! The only thing she asked was that we provide the beverages for the bar, and find our own shave ice vendor, as hers was already booked. We happily hired Paradise Shave Ice, who were also outstanding (see my review of them, separately.) We held the party at the outdoor beach volleyball stadium on campus, which is relatively new and challenging to find if you work on campus, and nearly impossible to find if you don't know the campus well at all. As soon as she was back from vacation, Lisa came out to find the venue and scout it out in advance, to be sure she knew how to get her staff here for the event. On the day of the event, she herself came to staff the event! She arrived right on time and began setting up the buffet while I decorated the stadium for the luau. She even brought beautiful tropical floral decor for the buffet tables, so everything looked very festive and pretty when it was all set up. I had ordered ice and Passion Orange Guava (POG) juice for our bar from Safeway in Mountain View, who were to deliver shortly after Lisa and I arrived at the stadium. I had planned to have a Mai Tai in my boss's hands as soon as he arrived at the start of the party. However, when Safeway failed to show up as scheduled (they lost my instructions!) and could not be reached by phone despite multiple tries, and with the party beginning within just a few minutes, Lisa sent her staffer Jerry to drive to Safeway to pick up my order. Jerry returned only about 15 minutes after the party began, and essentially saved the day. That was service well above and beyond the call of duty, and for that Luau Factory will forever have my deepest gratitude! We ordered kalua pork, coconut shrimp, pineapple fried rice, egg rolls, and fruit salad, with one each of the burnt almond cake and the guava mousse cake. All of the food was absolutely delicious, and the cakes were out of this world! At my request, Lisa brought take away containers so that our guests could take home the left over food, at no extra charge. She and her staff even packed up the food for people as they were leaving. What service! Everyone, including my boss's family who attended, absolutely loved the party, and I am still getting comments and compliments weeks later. My boss was especially touched, and told me what a wonderful event this had been to mark his departure from Stanford after more than two decades. Lisa and Luau Factory deserve every one of their 5 star reviews here, and if I could give a higher rating I absolutely would, without hesitation. They will be my first call the next time I plan a luau. They should be yours, too!

My job entails constant catering for high level (and high profile) Silicon Valley Executives. Due to the crazy environment we work in, my ordering numbers change by the minute. This makes it extremely hard for me to work with caterers, and I usually stick exclusively with my favorite tried-and-true restaurants (Fuki Sushi, Joya, Max's, etc). Also, I do not like using most caterers, as I feel their mass produced meals lack in flavor, presentation or both. I should admit that budgets are not so much an issue for us, as much as quality. I will gladly pay ludicrous amounts to ensure that my clients are fed high quality and well presented meals. With that being said, Scotty found me a short while back and PROMISED me he understood my feelings towards caterers and would not only make me happy, but exceed my expectations. I gave him a chance to provide snacks for the same day... He brought me lobster and langoustine canapes, with brie, pate and caviar platters (at the most reasonable $15/person)!!! I love people who listen to what I want and actually deliver on their promises! I have since used Westfresh on numerous occasions for build-your-own-gourmet-sandwich stations (a mere $12/person), assorted snack platters and a lovely tapas meal ($20/person), all for over 40ppl.
