While it won't win any awards for outside views - at the crossroads of industrial Hilton, this pub does house an award winning restaurant. In Fedora's you'll find niceties such as spanner crab meat with avocado mousse, seared bug tails and lemon vincotto, salmon with soba noodles, sautéed bok choy, miso broth and Japanese scallops, and Szechuan pepper-skinned duck breast with saffron rice. Then there's the thumping 5-star, 300g Wagyu burger. Weighing in at twenty bucks, many deem it worthy and voted it SA's Best Pub Burger, 2011. It sure would make a great buffer for the booze you may be about to down in MyBar.
When I first visited after its total overhaul in 2007, the beer garden was decked out in sand. I can't recall why, perhaps with the notion of bringing the beach to the burbs, but suffice to say it's gone now. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Perhaps the person in charge of feet wiping went insane.
There's still fun to be had outside or in. Towers of it in fact. Drink towers with three litres of cocktails or beer on tap are crowd pleasers. I'm not a wowser by a long shot but when I see them I can't help but think they encourage binge drinking. I have visions of the young-uns bent backwards with mouths wide open underneath their gushing taps. Perhaps this is indeed what they do. Perhaps that's what the sand was for, to soak up the fall out.. ;0) read more
