Here are some examples: Changed a faucet that dripped for YEARS that I was told was not fixable. Not only was it not dripping but he closed up the rusty old hole and made the tile look like the hole was never there. Had the uuuugliest fluorescent light in the living room, like "Joe vs the volcano" level, he replaced it, made it look like it was just all a bad dream. He replaced and fixed the kitchen door so it was even with the floor, when the door would open it would get stuck because the floor was not even, so he did some mathematical engineering and got it to work. He stabilized the dried out wooden pergola over the patio with wood and new metal supports so it didn't have to be torn down, saved a lot of money. He was able to design and construct from scratch a gorgeous washer and dryer enclosure that replaced a UGLY UGLY termite eaten shed that disintegrated when you barely touched it, rusted nails coming out, doors falling off the hinges. Throughout the process, he was very communicative, asking questions that involved functional design, placement, aesthetics. Even matched the hardware to the fences, which really was supercool. He also replaced a variety of ceiling fans, ceiling lights, bathroom faucet, drain, lights, kitchen drains, electrical plugs, fix a fence, and problem solve regarding how to hide wires, electrical cords. Long story short, I would highly recommend Brandon for house repairs, fixes, and design problem solving. His work is very thorough, detail and quality oriented, and he is very professional and is really an expert at what he does.

The cellar ground surface was uneven and full of deteriorating bricks. All the pier blocks and upright support infrastructure was non-standard in spacing and configuration. The bulkhead door opening was rough and uneven concrete. But we wanted the storage area to be sealed off from the remainder of the cellar while preserving air circulation and easy access to the air-conditioning and heating units installed there. Brandon was not daunted by the project. He started brainstorming immediately and came up with a plan that would get us what we needed at a cost we could afford. It was a big job. As the project played out, unexpected challenges required creative solutions. Brandon excels at this, is honest and easy to work with, and never tries to "upsell." Because of that experience, when we recently had a horrible leak that required us to replace our entire kitchen island, pantry, and flooring, along with a few upgrades I had been wanting to do, James was one of the first people I reached out to. His wife was incredibly nice, accommodating, and understanding of our situation. James came out the following Saturday, took measurements, and spent time discussing the repairs and upgrades I wanted done. Then--nothing. I was completely ghosted. If he was too busy to take on the project, I would have completely understood. If the project was too small or simply wasn't something he wanted to take on, that's okay too. But after being a returning customer and taking the time to have him come out, measure everything, and discuss the project, I feel like I at least deserved the courtesy of a response. I called James directly and left a voicemail with no response. His wife had also confirmed my email address before he came out, so there were multiple ways to simply let me know they weren't interested or available. It's really unfortunate because I reached back out specifically because of the great experience we had with James 8 years ago. I would have happily continued recommending So Cal Woodwork to family and friends. Unfortunately, after being treated this way as a returning customer, I can no longer recommend them. Bill is a true craftsman! I've had a wood gate that has needed rebuilding for the last 8 years…read more Pieces of the wood gate were rotting. Over the years, I've had other handymen pass on the project. I had a handyman who was able to fill the rotted areas with wood filler, sand it, and restain it. I've even had a gate company tell me that they could not save the gate; it would need to be completely replaced. Bill was able to cut out the rotted pieces of wood, replace them, and restain the whole gate (he also repainted the decorative hardware on the door as well). Moreover, he discussed the project with a buddy of his and they determined that the gate was sitting over a muddy part of landscaping which is probably what facilitated the deterioration of the wood. We found some leftover pavers in our storage shed and Bill extended the pavers so the gate would sit over pavers instead of mud. Before he embarked on the wood gate repair, Bill also installed a valance/shade over a window. He made the necessary calculations to ensure that the valance/shade would be centered on the wall and window. He also made sure that the valence was leveled. Bill is honest, meticulous and detail-oriented. If you want someone to treat your project and your home, like it's his own, I would give Bill a call.

At 12:30am a call was made to AHW, thinking just leave a msg for the next day (Saturday), but was shocked when Mike answered the phone. He and his team were there at 8am to put boards on windows etc. AHW was then hired to do the gutting of the home. All household items, refrigerator, furniture, personal belongings, everything! I'll talk first about their work ethic, they all were extremely professional, honest, dedicated, energetic, and knew what needed to be done. Once the home was emptied out, they went to work on ripping everything down, walls, ceilings, cabinets, flooring etc. Right down to the studs. Everyday they left, everything was cleaned up on the outside, sweeping, hosing down etc. Now the human side to these amazing gentlemen. Again, this was a horrific incident. ALL the staff at AHW were compassionate, empathetic and extremely kind to the family. While cleaning out personal items, they'd put items aside that weren't damaged by fire/smoke/water, that were sentimental to the family. Example, photos, wall painting, Dads Notre Dame and Angels memorabilia, Great Grandma's grandfather clock etc. I believe other companies wouldn't have had the degree of compassion they had, and would have tossed these items. Most just want to come in, get the job done and leave. NOT AHW, they came with their hearts open and empathy shining through. I highly recommend AHW for all the reasons stated above: Professional, Honest, Dedicated, Ethical, Hard Working, Very responsive, Respectful; there's so many positive adjectives I can use for them and it still wouldn't be enough.
