My daughter sent me some money for my birthday and told me to get some cake. I was at Fuzzy's…read moreyesterday afternoon having some breakfast tacos and I remembered about the Uptown Sweet Shoppe being in the same Center so I stopped in and got a couple of cupcakes, one chocolate and one German chocolate. They were both wonderful. I'm usually not too impressed with most cakes and cupcakes from any place that isn't home made and these were absolutely wonderful. The buttercream frosting was spot-on, creamy and delicious, just the right amount of sweetness. The girl even told me their frosting wasn't overly sweet and I see why she mentioned that. It was a perfect match with the rich moist chocolate cake. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that the case that used to have cinnamon rolls was missing. I mentioned it to the girl because I remembered how good their cinnamon rolls were. She said they didn't sell cinnamon rolls anymore which was disappointing. She mentioned a new owner took over last October. Whoever she is she's doing it right, cinnamon rolls are not. I can get those at Kind House Bakery or Girasol Bakery. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and the girl answered my questions cheerfully. She forgot to mention their cupcakes were so delicious I can't wait to go back and get another. I'm upping my previous review from 4 stars to 5.

The cashier was very friendly, and there were lots of gluten free, vegan, and sugar free options, as well as regular options as well. Day old treats are always a great alternative to fully priced fresh ones, so that addition was appreciated. Only critique is that the cookies were a little overpriced; it was $10 for one regular s'mores cookie and one chocolate gluten free and vegan cookie. They were good cookies, but not incredibly memorable. Regardless, would definitely recommend and return!

Out of towner visiting close friends and I talked about how hard it was to come by blackberry pie,…read moreeven though they grow all over Texas. We were actually on our way to the Spirit Halloween store on Bell and she pointed out Belmar Bakery, see if they had anything I wanted. Wouldn't you know the first thing I saw when I came in was a baker's rack of ready-to-go pies, and they had one blackberry pie left! Snatched it like I was the first customer at a Black Friday sale. Understand, where I'm from, a lot of restaurants have pie by the slice, so I was taking a big leap of faith on a pie I may not like. I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed!! The crust was solid, slightly buttery and smooth without the soggy bottom you usually get from fruit fillings. Disclaimer: if you get blackberry pie, you also get blackberry seeds in the filling. And I didn't mind! The filling was enough to balance out the crust, creamy--not watery--and tart like it should be (so many bakeries add tons of sugar to get rid of the natural tartness). AND it held up over the course of a few days rather than begin the slow crumbling and mushiness like a lot of fruit filling pies. I enjoyed it so much I bought another one the morning I left to come back home, I don't know much about the rest of the baked goods there (my 4 stars instead of 5) but I wouldn't hesitate to go back and get another ready-to-go pie of any kind if they're as tasty and well made as my blackberry goodness. I have no pictures because I ate it all. :)

I bought a small cake for my child's birthday , and after cutting the cake, at first bite the cake was dry. I've bought a cake with this business before and it was delicious, which is why it was not a questionable choice to choose this bakery again. The baker did claim it was baked on same day of pick up, but it does not taste as if it were. I did call to report the disappointment in the product and the manager was not disrespectful but well mannered. Just hoped it would have been a better experience.

We had to stop at the Big Texan while traveling Route 66 through Amarillo!…read more Our original plan was to come for dinner. I tried getting a reservation just a few hours before we arrived, but there was nothing available, and I wasn't able to get anyone on the phone. Once we drove past that evening, we understood why, the place was absolutely PACKED! I had seen that waits can sometimes reach 1-1.5 hours. That said, if you do have to wait, this is probably one of the better places to do it because there is SO much randomness to explore. Between the gift shop, Western décor, photo ops, and everything else going on, you could easily entertain yourself for an hour. We changed plans and made a reservation for 9 AM the next morning instead, and I'm actually really glad we did! On a Thursday morning it was quiet and relaxed, and we basically had our pick of all the goofy photo opportunities without fighting the dinner crowds. We shared the steak and eggs, and it was a perfect breakfast for two. The steak was seasoned perfectly and cooked really well. The entire place is exactly what you hope for from an over-the-top Texas Route 66 roadside stop: rustic, quirky, cow prints everywhere, a big gift shop, and lots to look at. We also discovered a whole crew of cats hanging around outside near the patio in the morning, which was an unexpected and entertaining bonus. One disappointment for us as Route 66 souvenir collectors: they have TWO penny press machines, but unfortunately BOTH were out of order when we visited. We were so sad! Overall, going at 9 AM turned out to be a great move. You still get the full Big Texan experience, but with way fewer people and plenty of time for pictures. Definitely one of those classic, quirky Route 66 stops you have to experience at least once!

We visited on a Sunday night at around 7pm and it was very busy. We were on a road trip and…read moredecided to stop there, eat at the restaurant, and stay in the motel. The wait time wasn't a big deal because we checked into our room, got settled, and browsed the gift shop while waiting for a table. The experience was fun, for sure. It's a neat restaurant. The food, though, wasn't so great. We ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer and they were at our table in just a few minutes. It's obvious that they had been pre-prepared and had been sitting because they were cold. They were still good, but would have been better if they were hot and fresh. I ordered a porterhouse medium-rare and my wife ordered some other steak, also medium-rare. Hers was cooked perfectly, but mine came out well-done. We didn't see our server for quite a while after the food was dropped off, and I was hungry, so I started eating it anyway. The steaks were barely seasoned at all. The strip part of the porterhouse was tolerable even if overcooked, but the tenderloin side was tasteless, tough leather. It was a shame, because it looked great on the plate until I started slicing into it. By the time our server finally came around to check on us, I'd finished half the steak. She asked how it was and I showed her the well-done steak and she apologized and said that she would add a discount. When the bill came, I saw that she had taken around $15 off the price of my steak, which was reasonable, so that resolution was fine with me. We had fun while eating there. The place was super-busy and we were sat next to a couple at a long, common table. We had some great conversation with our table mates while waiting for our food. One of them got the tomahawk ribeye and it was quite impressive. Maybe we just came at the wrong time when it was too busy. Maybe if we came at a less busy time my steak wouldn't have been overcooked. This seems to be one of those restaurants that you go to once for the total experience, but it's not where I'd want to go again to get a good, reliable steak.
