I purchased a machine over ten years ago from My Sewing Room. I was having problems and contacted the company that makes the machine and got no where. My last ditch effort was contact Anne. I got in touch with her amazing husband who after 11 years I would have expected him to forget any of the product I own because it's not a product you can get in Canada anymore, HE DIDNT!!!! I was up and running in seconds after I had just experienced the worst three days of my life (tried to figure it out on my own) Michael Thank you for amazing customer service and being able to get me calmed down so I could follow your directions. It just takes a couple of bad staff members to give a business a bad review and unfortunately this has been my experience. I will not purchase anything from this store again as there are two other quilting stores here in Calgary that are pleasant, helpful and fun to go in to. read more

I started quilting 2 years ago. This Calgary-based store was a lifesaver in the covid lockdown. On their Facebook Live, they have provided tips and ideas that have been very helpful. I do miss the in-class interaction however, I have been enjoying the online classes they have been offering. It is great to stay connected and make & complete many projects. Looking forward to the new online classes that are coming up. During the lockdown, I completed a fair amount of quilts by using their on-line shopping, or by phone orders complimented with curbside delivery. Now that some restrictions have been lifted and we can enter the store, I always look forward to interacting with the staff. The staff is extremely friendly and super helpful. I came across this store because I wanted to grow my hobbies, and I gotta say I really liked the wide range of fabrics and sewing accessories at My Sewing Room. I really like the eclectic range of materials. There is a wide range of whismical patterns (on the fabric) for PJs or children clothing-- and My Sewing Room even offers classes, which I need to sign up for asap! The parking lot was a bit hectic but My Sewing Room has its own parking spot allotted right up front. I would definitely come back once I have a few more sewing knots under my belt. read more

My Sewing Room is a vestige of another time. But not in a good way. My own experience with them has been difficult. There was a discrepancy over what was agreed as part of a bundle deal, and it ended with My Sewing Room standing their ground and telling me "You never wanted this item", offering a 30% discount instead. Funny, because I was sure I did want this item! This total lack of integrity over a few hundred dollars is more telling than anything. It's like pulling teeth getting through and speaking to someone about your issue. It's incredible there are still individuals paying $23 for a 5000m of thread, when that is almost triple the market average price (for the same brand). Literally every sewing and embroidery material I use on a daily basis costs over double at My Sewing Room. There is no quality difference with any of these materials. Do yourself the favor and do the research. read more

I will drive over 3 hours to shop here. The Sewing Room staff is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They are honest and pleasant to deal with. Since Covid, I haven't been able to go to Calgary but I am looking forward to heading back there again soon. I discovered their Facebook Live last year and have been enjoying all the fun and informative things that Anne, Leah and the other staff members have presented. read more

My Brother sewing machine was giving me difficulty - bobbin & needle issues. I took it into the Sewing Room & for $50 they will do a quick check of the machine & fix minor issues on the spot. Lea happened to be on duty on a Saturday so I was in luck. Such a pleasant girl who fixed my problem & gave me good advice on needles to use as well using thread that is not 'old' I would definitely use this repair service again. The staff in the fabric part of the store were a delight as well. I walked out of this business so impressed. read more

Great selection of beautiful fabrics. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I was very impressed by the service.

I ordered waffle weave teatowels to make donation baskets. These towels shrunk to half the size, and cannot be used. I called My Sewing Room - owner told me to call the manufacturer of the towels - in other words - they have my money, and it is tough luck the towels are unusable. They do not stand behind the products they sell. I will NOT be ordering from this store again. read more

Friendly staff, big range of sewing and quilting fabrics, lessons with good teachers.....I could go on and on. This is an awesome store, if you are buying half a meter of fabric or enough for a huge project. I have so often asked for assistance and gotten wonderful help and ideas. The service in Calgary has slowly taken a turn for the worst - including our beloved fabric and sewing and notion stores. This store will willingly help you purchase a wrong item for your project and then outwardly refuse to refund or exchange it for something that you can use. So be sure the ittem that you buy is what you need before purchase. As well, be prepared to overpay for the experience. read more

Don't even bother. This store has lots of staff wandering around, but they are much too concerned with their bad dye job (orangy/red stringy needs to be washed hair anyone?) than to help anyone who is in obvious need of getting some questions answered. When they do finally decide to help, it's only if you ask for it and they find out you are looking to spend big bucks on a machine. But don't worry, once they get your money, all promises of the included lessons, and trade in program suddenly disappear. They almost seem to pride themselves on poor service and being shady. It was less than amusing to listen to the repair man talk poorly about customers after they left the store as well. Take your money and time elsewhere. read more

Love your store, your staff and great choice of fabrics, and have had several quilts quilted at your store, But this last one which was to have large applique blocks quilted in the ditch was most disappointing, it was a very sloppy job. When I picked it up (Oct 26/11) & expressed my disappointment, she simply said it is very hard to do on a long arm, too bad she didn't tell me that before she did it. Don't get your sewing machine repaired there. I mentioned to the manager of My Sewing Room that I was about to be charged for a repair that didn't take place. I brought my sewing machine to My Sewing Room and a sales clerk took it to the repair centre at the back of the store. I had forgotten my electric cord, so the repair lady couldn't use my machine. She sewed a total of seven stitches on scrap material by moving the hand-wheel and adjusted the tension button. My machine needed no repairs. I had left my machine with her for five minutes only. Because of that she wanted to charge me $25. I spoke with the manager of the store and said there was no repair-work. I said my machine had just been repaired at the shop over a year ago and I hadn't used it until I took my sewing course. I said my sewing machine was fine. Turning a knob doesn't constitute a $25 repair. I said I'd split the difference and pay $15. The manager of the sewing centre began to lie and say I'd never been to My Sewing Room before for sewing repairs, which is a lie. Why was his staff person been able to find my name in his system? She had my name in her computer database indicating the date I brought my sewing machine in for repairs, but there were no notes. She said that the manager didn't keep notes on previous repairs and didn't list how much I'd paid. I've lodged complaints with SEVERAL organizations. read more

I'm not impressed with this place at all. My daughter took a sewing class. I dropped her off and returned at the end of class. She did not have an item on the list for this class. The instructor made no mention that she would need to buy one there in the store, and there was one sitting on the table that my daughter asked to use during the class only. She was told no, she couldn't use it and the instructor went to the shelf and opened a number of items for me to purchase(not just the item mentioned). When I arrived to pick her up I was told of the bill I owe. When I tried to return the items as my daughter said she was not interested in pursing sewing after that class, I was told that the items could not be returned as they had been opened. Yes opened by "My Sewing Room". The instructor knew my daughter did not have the item and should have told me when I dropped her off, that this is what you will need to purchase if you want her to take this class, however she said nothing when I was there, but handed me a bill when I got back. read more
