I planned to sew cushions for some outdoor furniture and went to the Fabricland on Sarcee Trail in Calgary in April. They had a great price on fabric but only 3 of the 8 zippers in the size and colour I needed. I bought the 3 zippers and spent the next 2 months going to Fabricland in 3 cities trying to find the remaining zippers I needed. When I was unable to source them I decided to use a rolled zipper product but Fabricland would not take a return on the zippers (they still don't gave stock!). I'll never go back. read more

I am repairing my drapes and needed guidance with using drapery tape. The ladies (two separate occassions) were fantastic at educating me regarding how to use the tape and how to make it work. Excellent help, pleasant and an inspiring assistance. Thanks! read more

I am temporarily limited for walking, needing to use a cane, and unable to carry heavy items. Upon entering the store I spoke to a staff member about my limitations, she explained that staff are busy, but someone would come to me when able. I walked around to chose the fabrics I wanted and a staff member kindly and pleasantly carried them to the cutting table for me. read more

I will never shop at fabric-land again. The staff are rude, unhelpful. I was swarmed by the staff and escorted out as a common criminal because I did not wear a mask inside their store. They got off on the power . zero stars . read more

Been shopping here for a few decades but going to take my business elsewhere. A good selection of fabric and notions at fair prices but can no longer support the antiquated systems and poor customer service. Sorry. read more

My experienced with Fabricland have never been positive; however, there is always that one employee that stands out making your experiences slightly more. After a really bad experience at the elbow location, I thought I would try the location off McLeod. Upon initial entry, staff we unhelpful and surly (as stated by other reviewers). I was unable to find basic lingerie sewing items as well. While wandering around the back looking for any sort of substitute for the items I couldn't get, I came across Cheryl, who was actually completely fabulous! I know! Shocking considering the organizational culture of Fabricland. Cheryl spent time with me testing alternatives and making suggestions. The store should really move this gem of a lady to the front as she is far more helpful and friendly than anyone else I've encountered in these stores. I have a feeling that I will only be hitting this store looking for this one helpful and friendly staff. She deserves five stars for her customer oriented service. Sadly, Fabricland as an organization doesn't. read more

The lady with the long dark and white hair at the cutting table is extremely rude and out to pick a fight for no reason. I suggest she finds a job not serving customers cause her customer service is greatly lacking! read more

I called before driving there to ask if buttons were on sale and the girl said they were 50% off. SO the next day I drive there see the signs for 50% off and proceed to choose new buttons. I get to the cash and that is for members only, I talked to a manager and explained I called before driving over but she would not budge. Never left a review before but I felt they performed a bait and switch. They should have honored the sale price. read more

The store is huge with a lot of selection but the employees that I encountered were quite surly. I had taken quite a long time to select some cream coloured fabric only to find that it was heavily soiled as the clerk was unrolling it. She seemed rather bent out of shape when I asked if she could keep unrolling so for $20 per metre I could purchase a non-dirty piece. After a few more rolls and more dirt I just left it. They receive a second star because they had a nice variety of pillow forms for 40% off. read more

Bolsters, bolsters and more bolsters of fabric. Fabricland is where my mom used to take me when I was a little girl and she wanted to get new material. As such, it's pretty much the first place I check out when I think "Oh, I need a lining for my cape!" Which is exactly what happened today. There's nothing particularly special about this Fabricland in comparison to the one I've visited in the NE. I think it's a little bigger, and it was nice that there were two cutting tables that were easy to spot. They need to figure out a better system for ringing people through though. I have no idea what took the lineup so long... there were two cashiers at the front and it was a 15 minute wait in line. Maybe a scanner or two might help the cause a bit? read more

Horrible customer service. Every trip is a disappointment. I keep giving the employees of this location another chance, but they have a bad attitude every time. read more

Since the new lighting has been added and my poor eyes can see the fabrics I'm thrilled to include this location in my circuit of stores. The attendants are always friendly and willing to help you find something and if they can't they seek out someone who can. It's gotten MUCH cleaner in the store over the last few months and everything is generally organized. The only thing I'd wish they would improve is the sale section at the back right corner; having the fabrics organized into types would make hunting around back there so much more easier. read more

Fabricland has taken the entire Calgary face mask bylaw to an all new level....my experience in the store was nothing short of absolute discriminatory. The Calgary bylaw officer explained to me that any type of material is acceptable as long as it covers the nose and mouth. It could be made from cloth, paper, a scarf, anything....There is no mandate on the type or quality of a material made mask. I was approached by the Fabricland store manager and told that she didn't think my cloth mask was as good as her cloth mask...what???? She waved a copy of the Calgary bylaw in my face and told me I was not complying with the bylaw. As we stood peering over our cloth masks at one another...she could not have seen my dropped jaw as I stared at her in disbelief. What part of this picture does she not get....I told her I'm aware of the bylaw and fully in compliance with it. She then told me she would not be able to serve me....Unbelievable moment!! Fabricland has fully discriminated and seems to be able to get away with this. In following up my experience with bylaw officers with Calgary, they told me that businesses can make their own policies beyond the bylaw if they choose. The lines of the law are so muddy it seems they can get away with discriminatory behaviour as such and why aren't more people challenging this nonsense. Aside from hiring a lawyer and taking legal action against Fabricland they are getting away with violating my rights in this country. What is to stop them from denying a person whose skin isn't white enough or dark enough...this is real stuff people Where does it stop and when will incidents like this get the attention needed to put a stop to it...They are acting like some sort of nazi regime....I won't be attempting to shop there again and I intend to spread the word about their horrible treatment and practice towards people all under the demise of Covid and a bylaw that is in place. read more

If I could put a negative star rating I would. Overpriced, 50% off sale signs everywhere but when you go to pay the sale only applies to one specific crappy fabric hidden amongst everything else. The people who work there are absolutely putrid. A bunch of old miserable bit***s that are unhappy with their life and take it out on the customers. Every single person I had the pleasure of dealing with (with the exception of the one cashier) were amongst the nastiest women I've ever spoken to. Horrible place. Ew. read more

Worst service I have ever had . Everyone acts like they hate working here ,even the manager . And I am sure that trickles down . I will never go back to store again ! read more

There was hardly any fabric of any quality in the store it was quite disgusting actually. Not sure I'll shop there again

After already going into the store twice and not getting the help I needed, I called and Sandy helped me out. She deserves employee of the month for sure. My expectations were exceeded- she went above and beyond for a customer she hadn't dealt with before or even met ! When I went into the store, I purchased pretty much an entire roll of fabric and made sure to thank her in person :) Great Job Sandy, keep up the awesome customer service. A++ read more

Relatively large selection is the only benefit of that store. The staff isn't helpful with anything beside cutting your fabric unfortunately. So if u don't know what exactly you're looking for or need some suggestions just prepared to spend a long time. read more

In my mind, Fabricland was always the place to go for your fabric needs and possible expertise. Boy was I wrong. Not only were the staff not helpful, they look at you like you're possibly the most stupid person in the world to even ask such a question. i'm a novice in fabrics and sewing so I walk in thinking the staff would be helpful since they work in a store selling only fabric and sewing things. If you know what you're doing and looking for, you will be fine. Buy your stuff, and get out. But if you need help with different types of fabric, suggestions, or even questions on the products, don't bother. The staff isn't there to help. They prefer to stand around and not do anything. I guess they just don't care. Fabric selection was good I think. I found what I was looking for, with no help, but I was there for a good 45 minutes. Would I recommend people to go? Probably not. If you have time, buy online... or go else where. read more

Absolutely fantastic service! The staff is very knowledgeable, and are happy to point you in the right direction. I'm currently working on a costume, and hit a major snag with how to finish it. The staff had great suggestions, and even though the store didn't carry everything that I needed, they had ideas for what stores might. One person can't know everything, and these girls know that two heads are better than one; or three in this case. I missed the name of the cashier who helped me figure out a pattern, but she pointed me in the direction of Cat and Sandy who are wonderful. Hilarious and helpful! They even asked me to bring a picture of my costume when it's done; and seemed just as excited about it as I am! This is what costumer service should be! read more

If I could leave negative stars I would. I've been coming to the Fischer location for years, and honestly never had a good experience. Except there is one employee, shelby, who always makes sure I get what I need and has a great attitude. The rest seem like they hate their job, each other, and that customers annoy them. Very poor selection most of the time. the cherry on the cake today, is that I am 9 months pregnant and drove quite a distance to get here to get fabric for a baby blanket. The staff at the door told me I wasn't allowed in because she didn't approve of my plastic face covering. After explaining myself, how I cannot breathe behind the fabric ones and I have been fainting when wearing them, I was simply told "too bad" so I called the manager. She also couldn't have cared less. I was told it was their store policy. medical issues do not matter here, your money is worthless. you must make yourself as uncomfortable as possible/ or heck, maybe even faint in front of them and hope to god one of their snotty employees knows what to do. "protecting people". Yeah right. read more

I love going to Fabricland but I usually hit up the one in the NE. However, this one is closer to home so I decided to give it a try. I was really unimpressed by the store. It feel like a warehouse, cold and barren. The service at the cutting tables was so slow! I probably waited a half hour to get our material cut! I just really didn't like the atmosphere of the place. read more

This store is reasonable well organized and contains a good variety of fabric at good prices. My issue is that I have never been in a store that has more rules. The store is filled with brusk, wrecky signs telling you what you can and can not do. The ones I remember are common sense for anyone that has shopped in North America in the last 20 years. The staff is not particularly friendly either. Given that the place does not have much in the way of a pleasant shopping experience visually, they should really decide to value their customers more. read more

I dealt with Cat at the Fisher Road branch and she was excellent!!! She knew her stock, even the bargain bins. I was in the Fabricland on Fisher Road SE in Calgary today and have never ever experienced such rudeness as i did from some of the staff there, anywhere else or in any other situation. When i complained at the payment counter, the manager was at the next till, and neither stepped over to apologize or acknowledge the problem. I am a textile artist, as are many of my friends and colleagues: i will recommend they not go to this particular location. Since my purchases help fund in part their wages, i was shocked at the treatment i was given. This wasn't the first time either: the friend i was with said that on several occasions she has experienced the same lack of courtesy and common sense in dealing with customers. On none of the occasions were either of us rude, asking difficult questions, or causing problems ourselves. The responses by these staff members were quite dramatic. I WON'T be going back to FabricLand and will instead take my business, and my friends to other fabric stores. read more
