In the meantime, there's enough construction here to imagine the possibilities. That includes the retail outposts like Liz & Lottie who have staked their success on their stylish taste and the promise of a lot more foot traffic past their shop. I wandered on a recent Friday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed this version of retail therapy. Liz & Lottie is more geared perhaps to those who are "sugar and spice and everything nice", but for folks like me (e.g. snips and snails and puppy dog tails), there some interesting things, plus loads of gift opportunities. I also enjoyed their nice selection of local and Canadian items and their good taste in selecting and displaying their wares. Liz & Lottie was definitely worth the extra bit of East Village discovery exploration. Best wishes for your continued success.

My super stylish and in the know sister in law has been finding awesome gifts at Liz & Lottie for everyone in the family since they've opened and I have been following them on Instagram to keep tabs on the new items coming into the shop. The two owners are super kind and helpful, I've messaged them on Instagram with shopping requests/items I am looking for and they have sent me back pictures of products they have in store that match the request -- how nice is that! I often visit on my lunch break as they are tucked into the East Village at the bottom of one of the high rises but it's easy to get there either from walking through the river walk, taking the train to the end of the free line then going for a short stroll or driving right up there. On this visit I walked away with gift for four upcoming events! A sassy and slightly inappropriate valentines card for my husband, a baby shower gift, a gender reveal party gift and a birthday party gift. Trust me I could have kept shopping! We decided to ignore it, and went again about a month later. We were looking for materials to make monster hunter leather armor. We had found the perfect leather, and were told to put it aside until we were finished shopping by another employee. It was left on a side table at the back, after being explicitly told that we had access to it. We came back after half an hour of shopping, and the same employee who set it aside was selling it to another person. When confronted, both employees doubled down and told us that we were wrong, and that they were going to sell it to another customer. We repeated what they had told us originally, but they kept insisting that we had not communicated at all. The other customer also became upset and left without buying any leather due to their behaviour. One of them proceeded to tell me "Ninety Six dollars" per square meter, when they had said eight dollars to the other customer. When we went to pay, we explained to the employee our concerns, and why we ended up not buying anything. He again became very argumentative, calling us liars, and then simply refusing to engage in any conversation, however helpful or constructive it may have been. Overall, I would never recommend this store, which is unfortunate due to their wide variety of fabrics.

I just wanted some fringe for trimming a dress but no other website offered this item. I needed to make a costume from the 1920s. This place was amazing, both wonderful and mysterious at the same time. The store is crammed from floor to ceiling with everything from fabrics to fur, trims and fringes, ribbon and lace, and it just goes on. The staff are great. I had no idea where to start but when I told them what I needed they led me through narrow corridors of stuff that branched off into different areas just waiting to be explored. Eventually we reached a room that was floor to ceiling with trims and fringes galore. I found what I needed and the staff were very helpful but not pushy or in a rush. They let me use one of their tables to sort through my selections. Long story short, I found what I needed at a good price in about 20 minutes but spent over an hour exploring all the great products they sell. I picked up a few other decorations for my dress at very reasonable prices. The best part, I didn't make it to the second floor. I am definitely going back. This place is a craft person's dream especially if you build your own Halloween costumes! And it is a fun place to explore for an afternoon.

Whatever you need (wire, pliers, potential pendants, craft books, etc), it's all there. Just walking into this store and seeing all the shapes, colours, and materials (metal or plastic beads) got the creative juices flowing. Oh how I miss those days where giving your friends a custom made bracelet or necklace was a big deal, and that was their birthday present.
