Ordered take-out and I have to say I was getting slightly annoyed on the phone trying to order the food ... the girl on the phone was talking kinda quiet (she sounded like a kid, not really sure) and I have to repeat my name 3 times and also spelled it out then saying it again for the 4th time ... so ya, that was getting on my nerves. But anyway. I got a steak sandwich, hubby got a 1/2 BBQ chicken with a salad & rice on the side, and a fish & chip for my Mum. The steak sandwich was OK, pretty simple ... thin piece of meat but still OK with straight cut fries (at least they weren't shoestring fries, I hate shoestring fries, the get cold & stale too fast). Hubby loved his chicken meal. And the fish & chip alright, Mum said the batter was crispy and the fish tasted fresh. Hubby definitely wants to go back for the chicken, he loved it. This is a good neighborhood restaurant, and if I lived in the neighborhood, I would likely go back on a regular basis. However, I do not live nearby and it is not worth the drive for me. I ordered the Chicken and Ribs combo with crispy fries. The portions were enormous. All were good, but the chicken and ribs were both over cooked and too dry. This may be the luck if the draw as both seem to be cooked in advance. You will likely enjoy your meal, but there are better Portuguese restaurants in New Bedford. If you are looking for Portuguese Chicken, Churrascaria Novo Mundo is a much better choice. read more

I must say I am impressed with their menu. My Place Restaurant is your typical "mom and pop" Portuguese Restaurant. Went here for brunch with my husband's BIG family. More than 15 people. Yep! That's Portuguese family for you. I am Filipino by the way. :) Anyway, I wasn't really hungry yet that time so I ordered a chicken and rice meal. The price says $10.50 so I thought to myself, "Hmmm, I'll get this since it's inexpensive." (Assuming it will be a small meal because it's only $10.50.) LO AND BEHOLD. They gave me a platter good for 4 people! Are you kidding me?! For $10.50 I got a meal that could feed me for the next 24 hrs. And IT WAS SO GOOD! Their chicken reminds me of Filipino's version of roasted chicken. It was really great! And their spicy sauce is great paired with it. Overall, experience was great! Ok, so my sister and I are from North of Boston where authentic Portuguese food is found only in our dreams. On a recent visit to our Madrina's house, we decided to stop and bring her Portuguese takeout (Clearly, this was more to benefit us than her as she can purchase it at any time- I digress). We decided 'My Place' because it had good reviews on Yelp and they were not a Cash Only establishment (who does that nowadays?) The woman taking our takeout order was FANTASTIC! Super knowledgeable about the menu. She was very patient with us because, clearly, we were from out of town. We ordered the steak Kabob, Fried Cod Fish, Baked Cod Fish, Chorizo and Cod Fish Balls. The portions were huge! Although I am not used to picking out fish bones from my food, it was very tasty. We waited about 25-30 minutes for our takeout. They were very busy with a constant line to the door. At this time, we realized everyone was ordering some chicken that he cut with what looked like garden equipment. I told my sister when our food was done, we can purchase some of that chicken on the way out. Patrons were also enjoying their meals in their small but busy restaurant. Now, did I mention that Portuguese Pops are NOT FOUND NORTH OF BOSTON? It is sacrilegious for anyone to leave a Pop in a bread basket, but people were doing just this. They just do not realize how lucky they are to have this delicacy so close to home. My mouth watered as my eyes fixated on the abandoned rolls on the table. At this moment, my mind committed on purchasing some of these little critters when we picked up our meal. Finally! Our meal was done! Eagerly, I asked if we could purchase some POPs to accompany our dinners. I was told they could not be sold to us because they needed them for sandwiches. If you need them for sandwiches, then why are they given in little bread baskets on the tables. Have only purchased "Malasadas" from My Place. You can get them with or without sugar on them. They are for sure the best malasadas around... (minus the grease). They are hot, very fluffy and filling. I would have given a 5 star but didn't because: even though they are delicious, they are way too greasy. The outside of the paper bag is always completely covered with seeped through grease. They probably need to find a way to drain them better, after they deep fry them. They do put that paper bag in a grocery plastic bag because of that. I would be nervous that the grease would seep through (if I had a new car)... so bring some kind of crate to put them in. The grease will also be on your counter (from the bag). So by the time you eat them, I'm sure most of the grease has seeped out. Price is also a bit steep ...... but its not like we go there every week... maybe every other month. But they are delicious ..... best in that town that I've found so far! read more

One of my favorite places in the city! The food is amazing, fast and more importantly cheap! They also sell their hot sauce which me and my gf consume far to much of but I can't help but put it on everything. I eat food from here once a week for i don't know how long. Chicken fries and rice is synonymous with a great inexpensive meal between family and friends. Frango do churrasco is the best deal, better and cheaper than fast food. I never get sick of eating it. I love My Place and Drive there from the south end even though I'm only a few blocks away from a similar restaurant. 5 stars all day and when we can't decide on what to eat, it's chicken fries and rice. read more

I love Portuguese food, so one day I walked in and right away I noticed that the place was falling apart. Everything is dirty. The floor, the Windows, and the walls. So I said to myself if all of these things are dirty I can imagine how dirty it must be behind the counter.
