My Museum is not a really a "museum" per se - it's more of a play space with an educational theme. The staff are nice but pretty young and seem to just be there keeping the place tidy and staffing the front. There are various play areas that are interesting enough for little ones, including a big air tube that you can place fabric/poms into and watch fly out. My kids are just about turning 2, and had fun. However, there are a lot of older kids going a little nuts so my wife and I had to do a lot of work just hovering over them making sure they didn't get trampled. There is a space for children under 3 but no one seems to read the sign and follow that rule...so even in that space they were getting trampled. MY Museum could get 5 stars if they increased their staff and had some more experienced people working and managing the space. Go here if you're in the area and are tired of going to parks or the beach for some reason. read more

We found this using the Garmin my dad gave me for my birthday. We were pleasantly surprised to find that it was a children's museum that we've never heard of before. While my son is getting a bit too old for these types of things as the target age is five and under and he is nine, he has enough imagination and curiosity to make them worth going to. This one is on the rather small side based on other ones we have been to but we still spent over an hour watching him run from area to area. Parking is kind of tricky and, since I don't know the area, we parked in a lot that was for a business that was closed on Saturdays. My 2.5-year-old daughter clearly stated her feelings regarding MY Museum with her early-morning nightmare today. She woke up screaming, "No Mommy, I don't want to go! Want to stay at MY Museum!" I think that says it all really. My twin 2.5 year olds love this place. There is a great deal to do in a small space. I love that there is a craft area that *I don't have to clean up!* and my kids can go hog wild in there (within reason of course). It does make me nervous that there are hot glue guns present, however, so when I'm on my own with all three kids, I don't let my toddlers enter here. My reason for giving it 4 stars only is that, as members, there are no changes to the exhibits that I have seen, which makes it less of a museum and more of a play room in my opinion. Which is fine, but a little more variety would be nice (as would a snack bar). Also, the story time was very unappealing to my toddlers. The girl reading the book seemed embarrassed and uncomfortable reading to young kids, and laughed nervously throughout. She didn't interject any "fun" into the reading, as good storytellers do. It was more like someone reading tax law. Needless to say, when she was done reading the first book and asked the kids if they would like another book or to go play, the kids unanimously answered "PLAY!" and left without a backward glance. Overall though, love this place! The costumes, the treehouse, the play restaurant, the mini golf course, the Book Nook (though the books in here are in dire straights), and the ambulance are all wonderful and keep my little ones entertained for hours. got invited to go play here by my neighbor for one of their kid's birthday party. The party was 2 hours long. My 18 month old loved the mini golf area and i saw her light up when she saw all the costumes to dress up in. She also loved the restaurant section but it seemed like everyone and their mother was around that play area so we took her to a less crowded area. I wish she was old enough for the craft area (i think it said ages 4 and up) cause there were some really neat craft tables. It's only $7 per person so if i was in the area with a bunch of kids and had nothing to do... i wouldn't mind letting them spend several hours there. read more

I recently became a member here. I take my grands kids once a week. This place is great! Plenty of things to do. They have a great craft corner that uses recycled materials. The kids love Mrs. Sharon and Kinder Jam!!! The place is always clean. I see the staff constantly walking around and cleaning things up. Hand sanitizer readily available. Staff is very friendly. I would have given a 5 star if they had a better system for kids leaving the building. There are staff at the front desk but kids could get by undetected. I would recommend this place to anyone with kids 10 and under (10 might be pushing it). read more

Very fun place! They have so many different activities, you could spend hours here. All of the stations have working elements; the phone in the hospital calls the phone in the ambulance etc. There is a farm, a stage, hospital, restaurant, treehouse, walk in dollhouse, a kids "ATM", and much more. We parked on the street, it's 90 minute parking. I'm not sure if there is a lot, I saw one across the street but I dont know if it's public. They also have crafting stations, we haven't tried that yet though. The only drawback is that I don't see a café or snack area, so eat before you get here LOL. I wish there was one of these where I live! read more

I had heard about this place from a friend in S.F. I wasn't sure if the age range would be appropriate for a 1 yo so I decided to check out this place and I am so glad I did! I was impressed enough to become members as I know we will be making regular visits here. My son really loves this place! It's like an oversized playhouse for kids. I do wish there were more exhibits for tots (under 2) and that it was larger, but for what it is, it is still a really fun place for kids to burn off their energy. I think my son will enjoy it more when he is b/t 2-5. Right now, he just likes running around, climbing up the steep ramps and sliding down the slides. The place is clean and well kept and it's nice to be around other parents and to watch the kids interact and play. It's a pretty cool place. read more

My son and I came here on a Tuesday morning . There were many different beautiful and creative exhibits. I am not sure off if it is because he's a boy or maybe because he is only 5 years old, but the majority of the exhibits we're a little to organized for him to follow and too sensitive for him to give a beat down. I love the creativity and obvious cost that went into creating and implementing these project areas. The biggest challenge was the rule that are that you need to stay with in a "hug's" reach of your child. To follow your child around you need to duck, climb and crawl a lot. read more

We love My Museum! It's a fun and safe place for the kids to run around. It's nice if the weather is gross outside, to have somewhere other than the aquarium to have the kiddos burn off some energy. That staff is always so friendly! There's usually someone walking around cleaning everything or picking up constantly so things never get too crazy. There so many different activity stations, there's really something for every kid. My daughter loves the kitchen area and the stage area where she can dress up and perform. They also have a stellar arts and crafts section with tons of recycled craft supplies. If you live in the area and plan to go more than once a year, a membership is your best bet. They really are a good deal! read more

The 5 yr old and the 19 month old had a _lot_ of fun. They both ran around going from area to area. the costume and stage section they loved although some of the costumes are torn and need mending. As several others have said, don't expect a museum. This place is, however, a great indoor play space for kids up to age 8 or so. I love the craft area - lots of fun. If you live in Monterey it's well worth taking out a membership. Parking can be a little inconvenient, not so much due to lack of space, but lack of time - most nearby parking spots are only 1 hour. We also had my daughter's birthday here; it was ok. You don't really get an awful lot for the money, other than entry to the museum for friends according to the package you choose, along with some simple party bags and crowns. We did it for the convenience as we'd had a baby only a week before. Our daughter (4) had a great time. read more

We absolutely love MY Museum. I have been taking my 17 month old daughter to Music with Mary Lee since she was 3 months old. Every Thursday morning we look forward to singing and dancing at MY Museum. My daughter loves all the exhibits especially driving the boat and ambulance. The staff are all friendly and always greet my daughter by name. We had my daughter first birthday at MY Museum which was a perfect location for a winter birthday party. We reserved the after hours package and had the whole place to ourselves. It was so much fun! MY Museum will continue to be our go-to place for learning, fun and exploration! read more

This could have been good, this place is centrally located to downtown restaurants and shops, parking is easy, and the place itself is cute. I wanted to have fun. The employees were friendly, albeit young, ergo the shenanigans that ensued. 1- my daughter is almost 2, so perhaps this simply isn't a toddler friendly environment. Most of the kids were big, and essentially steamrolled my tiny girl. Like literally, they'd mow her over, yell at her, and rip things from her hands. 2- they have an area that is designated for children under 3. Yet, clearly this was not regulated because a large boy, probably 7-ish was in there hurling plastic beige covered foam cubes around, and then throwing himself onto them. The tiny children near him were actually being ricocheted off the surface and bailing into walls. 3- they have a contraption that makes a giant bubble tube. A pig nosed little troll kid was yanking it roughly, creating a trebuchet like weapon. He slammed my tiny girl in the face with it. She fell over, cried, and her nose bled. The staff did not seem concerned with this, his troglodyte parents just stood there. They didn't apologize, they didn't rebuke him, they just stood there with their giant foreheads being mute & overwhelmed with complex thought. Her nose was bleeding people. And yet nothing was said or done to rectify what was basically a violent assault. 4- at this point I'm already over it. But my friend and her child, who was already covered in weird gray muck from having sat on something, weren't quite done. 5- I tell myself, this is life, these are lessons for my baby to learn. Let's just make the best of it and get our $8 worth of "educational" adventure. 6- so my daughter keeps running back and forth, whereupon I realize, the front door is giant and unguarded. The doors are tinted on the outside, so a person can & inevitably will open the giant doors, not knowing that a fragile kid body is standing next to it. Also, when they open the door, they'd create a large opening for kids to run through and into oncoming traffic. Theoretically, a smart idea, would be to have a gate that prevents kids from leaving the play area in order to avoid either tragedy. But there is no gate. There is no safety buffer. Just a lobby, with no precautions, and 2 giant doors, not being watched. So in the end, I paid good money & an hour of my time, to have my daughter attacked with a bubble wand by a mean kid, with jerk parents, be trampled by larger kids, and then endure heartbreaking moments of being nervous & scared while she stood near big doors that would have either eventually smacked her or lent her a gateway to being hit by oncoming traffic. The staff consisted of a gaggle of polite young girls who seemed way too preoccupied with the craft corner. I get it, you are 19, putting glitter on stuff is super important. That being said, put up some fences, set some rules, if you want to be a kid place, then actually be kid friendly. Or at least hand out tiny helmets upon entry. read more

I invited a friend in the area to the well reviewed and highly recommended My Museum (MY). We decided to visit on May 4 with our 17-month and her 10-month old. We knew MY had one Exhibit for their age and the other Exhibits were for older kids. We arrived early and at 10:15 we were already playing with our little ones in My Day at Beach. To our surprise, it had only passed just a couple of minutes since MY's opening time and the area looked so dirty that it seemed no one clean it the previous day or weeks. The area looked depressing, there is a lack of windows and poor lightning. The exhibits and "toys" were so worn, dirty and old. We stated it was our first time in MY, but the lady at the counter wasn't too informative about the facility and things available for us to do. It didn't seemed there was adequate supervision throughout since the older kids were running rampid and cutting in lines without no one stopping them. People eating and drinking in the play area. No one from the staff was enforcing the rules, like the "No Shoes". Multiple parents and kids were allowed to use shoes. Finally we didn't received a ticket or receipt for later re-entry? Weird! I was so mad and disappointed because I did my research previous the visit and all the reviews were good. I was expecting to enjoy MY with my friend and kids. I really can't say enough good things about MY Museum. We love this place! I have 2- and 4-year-old boys and we've had a membership for a year. The first time we went, glancing around I wasn't sure if the membership would be worth it but in hindsight I can't believe I ever had such a thought! We have been at least 30 times and my kids NEVER tire of it. In fact, every time we drive by (which is often as it's on the way to my husband's office) they both freak out and beg to go in, and when we do go it is a major chore to get them out the door when it's time to leave. The museum is broken up into several exhibits: -a toddler area with a beach/boat theme with the world's fastest indoor slide ;) (they don't make a big deal about my 4yo going in as long as there are not a lot of babies and/or he is being gentle and respectful.) -a miniature golf course, fully functional, complete with a real golf cart -creation station with various supplies and hot glue guns at each work station -a cafe with cash register, pretend food,etc. -a farm with a real tractor (my 2yo "drives" this thing foreverrrrr) -a treehouse with slide -a doctor's office with life-size "Operation" game -a theater with many dress-up options and comfy seating for the parents -an ambulance (another big hit with the 2yo) -a construction zone -a playhouse (over the course of the year we have been members, this went from a Suess-themed book nook, to a Sesame Street theme, and now a super cute flower market...I appreciate how they are always mixing it up to keep things fresh.) Additionally there are various other little experiences sprinkled around, such as a working ATM, a drum that demonstrates sound waves, a ball "elevator"/conveyor belt/gears thing, a scale that indicates the health value of various foods you can place on there, a giant bubble makers, etc. They also have a little something going on each day of the week, such as music time, story time, science experiments, etc. (check the calendar on the website). We have been to many special events, such as a delightful pumpkin festival they held in the autumn, and a birthday party for Dr. Seuss complete with cake and party hats! If your kid gets bored here quickly, I would venture a guess that the problem lies somewhere other than the museum...if you know what I mean :) There is so much here packed into a relatively small space. Further is it always miraculously clean somehow. And I love that they have a water cooler + cups for all to enjoy. 5 stars for the staff as well. As mentioned we have been dozens of times and I cannot recall even one instance where I had a problem with anything the staff did. We have always been treated like gold! Sadly we will be moving away soon. Out of all the amazing things to see and do in the Monterey area, MY Museum will always hold a special place in my heart!! read more

There was lots of hands on experiences and toys for the kids to play and learn. The kids the tubes that were controlled my air pressure and the slide on the tree house. Row in a boat, climb into a treehouse, play a round of golf, cook up a meal from the garden, ride an ambulance, drive a fire truck, put on a performance, and perform surgery all in about 2 hours. This is not a museum...more like a daycare. My husband and I took my 4 year old one afternoon while vacationing in Monterey. The way the locals talked it up I thought it was an actual museum but its more like a play yard. Has a few educational stations and a cool art area but was still a bit of a let down. Young girl that worked the front counter was unfriendly but the young kid cleaning up around there was nice. Place was clean and is in a nice area that has a few restaurants and a nice bakery within walking distance. Parking is a problem. There is a parking garage nearby at $7 a pop which stunk but that's pretty much anywhere downtown. Also, they charge adults an admission fee to just watch their kids which is ridiculous but we made the best of it and made sure to make our own crafts. Came away with some pretty awesome pieces of art. lol Just sort of a blah experience. I can see where locals with small kids would like coming here. If you are from out of town don't bother. Hit the wharf or go to Dennis the Menace park instead. read more

MY Museum is GREAT! They have so many fun hands-on educational activities for kids from a mini-golf course to a giant game of Operation... and so much more! My son is 3-years-old and he loves MY Museum so we just has his 3rd birthday party there. The staff was WONDEFUL and all of the kids had a great time. The price of the party covers decorations, goodie bags & crowns for all the kids. And the staff does all the set-up beforehand and clean-up afterward! I would highly recommend MY Museum to anyone with young children! Not only is it a great place to have a birthday party - it is also a fun place to take your kids to play where they can use their imaginations and learn in a fun and engaging environment! Visited for the first time today with my 18 month old and she had a blast. The museum is on the smaller side, but the space is well utilized. I was impressed with how courteous the staff was, and how often they cleaned. I constantly saw employees picking up toys, replacing crafts, or cleaning. The lockers were nice (free) as well so I could keep the diaper bag in there and not have to carry it around! Can't wait to come back. read more

It is smaller than most that we have been to, but is adequate and makes it easier to keep track of where the kids are! Lots of equipment to run and play on as well as interact with. We were so pleased we had a chance to visit this little children's museum. The best part was we got half off because we are members at a children's museum in another town 3 hours away. They pack a lot into this little place. My son loved dressing up like a fireman, climbing up the ladder in the firehouse, using the "fire hose," "driving" the fire truck and using the siren, and taking me, the burn victim, to the ambulance and hospital. I was impressed with the treehouse, slide, and mini golf area. Even though are time there was limited (we had about 90 minutes), I was still glad we went. I don't think the place gets too busy either, because we called ahead and they said it was very busy, but when we came, it didn't feel crowded at all to us. read more

More like "My Play Place" than a museum, but there are some informative exhibits. Mainly, though, it's a place for kids 5 and under to run around and play in a varied and cool environment. Our two year old seemed to like it a lot more than the park (she's still going to get park time) so we'll be back down when we are in town. The place was clean and safe and there's lots to do if you are a little kid. Something relaxing for the parents would be nice, BUT...just having a place for the kid(s) to run around is pretty relaxing as is. read more

Love this place! I agree with the previous person who wrote that it's a entry level as far as childrens musuem, but heck I have a 3yr old, 19month old and newborn and we all had a great time. They were able to safely go off on their own without having me worry. We were there with friends that had a 10 yr old and he had a blast in the craft area. I even saw adults making their own crafts. My 13-month old had a blast here, and enjoyed it so much that we bought a membership. There isn't as much for young toddlers/older babies to do, but it is plenty. My daughter enjoyed watching the bigger kids playing on the theater stage.
