My wife had a conference nearby and I had both kids for the whole day, what's a dad to do with a 2.5-year-old and a 9-month-old? I considered the Monterey Bay Aquarium but I wanted to spend less and I wanted both kids to appreciate the experience. Fortunately, there was a recommendation to visit the Monterey Youth Museum only a few blocks from the Monterey Conference Center and Marriot Hotel. Upon arrival, the staff greeted us and told us about all the amenities. The most important part to me was the reassurance that the staff helps keep a close eye on our littles so that they don't run out and leave on their own and that there is only one way in and one way out of the play area. The prices were reasonable at $10 per adult and children, free for kids under 2. The best part was the admission lasted all day with in-and-out privileges. The facility had a variety of things for kids to do, the first thing you notice is the big tree house in the middle with connecting slides, a mini golf area, a play hospital with a giant operating table, and a play ambulance in front. For the 3 and under there's a play beach area that has a lot of cushioned areas and mini slides. My son's favorite was the craft area where they provided various materials to cut, glue, color, and then piece together a creative piece of art. I intended to only spend a couple of hours that day, but my boys had so much fun we spent the whole afternoon playing. I recommend and would do this again next time we are in town.

Looking for something to do on the Monterey coat that's not the aquarium on a rainy day, My Museum is a great choice. Less busy than the aquarium, but make sure to call a head of time to ensure they are not full. From the baby area, to put put golf, play kitchen/house/fire truck, stage to perform shows, and a nice fully stocked craft area there is something for children of all ages. The craft area is super nice because you can do a fun craft project and don't that to setup/gather supplies. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Parking around the museum is all only 90 minutes so make sure to plan to move your car.

We were members before COVID-19 and enjoyed the experience for my son from age 1-3. They just reopened for members, by appointment only, and reopen to the public July 1st. For families with children under 12 who are still concerned about Covid safety, we highly recommend MY Museum as a safer option. They are cleaning toys frequently throughout the appointments, asking people to use hand sanitizer as they enter, limiting how many people are in each appointment group, and asking that people continue to practice social distancing and mask wearing for ages 2+. Some families were wearing masks under their noses and ignoring social distancing today, but the vast majority of people were following the guidelines.

We had my son's fourth birthday party here!! The kids love it. The staff is wonderful! Couldn't recommend it more! We had the party on a Thursday. They offer a 5:30-7:30 time slot which I think is the perfect amount of time!

The perfect place to bring your little. I took my 16 month old here and she had such a great time that we signed up for a membership and go weekly now. The staff is wonderful and kind. The thought that went into the play areas is amazing because you can tell it helps there cognitive and motor skills . She loves playing with the wall of colors, playing dress up on stage and driving the fire truck. I was initially worried that there wouldn't be much for her since she's so little but every time we go she finds new things she can do.

How would this place be to take 2 toddlers and a baby by myslef? can the kids escape? lol easy to see all areas from one spor?

I have seen parents take 3 or 4 kids in this place. It is safe since only one entrance and exit. Plus the staff is super observant usually. It is hard to see all areas in one spot since they have a 3 year and younger section with a boat and slide.… Read more

How is the parking? Is there parking lot or street parking?

A lot of street parking but only 90 minutes. You have to monitor your time. If you drive somewhere else, you can pay I think 25 cent per hour if you plan to stay longer.

It is a small museum but an absolutely beautiful one worth visiting. As a birder, I loved the cases of taxidermied birds, one of the largest collections of this type on the West Coast with over 400 specimens. I was even more enchanted by the jade room full of jade pieces and artwork derived from right here on the Central Coast, the giant Grizzly Bear, the gorgeous nature field guide mural/artwork upstairs, and the imaginative Room of Wonder full of items that had long been stored in the Museum basement and now brought back to viewing public in artistic settings. This room is mesmerizing and hard to describe but you should definitely see it for yourself. Native Americans are included as well as Asian Americans in the different displays, which I appreciate and feel contributes to the holistic and unified way in which the natural history of our state is explained here. One of the highlights, though, was meeting Bill, a volunteer guide at the museum. He gave so many interesting facts, helped with cool photo ops, and conveyed his genuine love for nature and the community. He is the heart of this fine place. We hope to see him again! Now, pay careful attention to your GPS, folks, because I totally missed the drive the first time. I arrived, but was afraid I had arrived at someone very fancy's personal estate. It was dark, oh so dark. But there must have been 30 cars, so I parked with all the others and walked toward the building. I guess first I walked around the building. There were two places I could see light coming from, and I picked the one on the left. Folks, go for the one on the right. I walked around back and into the rose garden. I was still a little afraid the master of the house would set his royal guard dogs on me for prowling. Back to my car. I'm hustling. I'm thinking, "there was a sister museum that was also advertised to be open late, maybe I should go there!" (apparently that was wrong anyway, cause it;s First Friday at MMA Pacific Street not Third Thursday, but in retrospect I was pretty confused all around). But first I try the other place where light beckoned. It is an adorable, old fashioned door. And all of a sudden, I'm on the other side and inside this beautiful land of art, curated by beautiful people and enchanting enclosed within a historic estate (see, eg., chandeliers, dainty little bathrooms, gift shop in what feels like a dining room). Almost everyone was already in a lecture about art restoration, so I slowly wandered through the collection without having to navigate a crowd. It was super enjoyable. The kids area/library was a place I'd like to spend more time, and the gift shop was well priced. I'd definitely like to go back and see the outdoor area. It was, as hinted at above, almost pitch black at night.
