I would've given 5 stars because the facility and most of the staff were great but one a little bit racist. They have daily events for, such as Zumba which was really fun. They also have more than a dozen different "settings" (e.g. golf course, hospital, theatre) that had plenty of toys and appropriate accessories. The "create station" they had was large with an abundance of crafting materials to keep even the older kids occupied for hours. Food and outside drinks are not allowed which is fine since there are a lot of restaurants nearby, there's even a bakery just across the street. You're allowed to leave and come back without having to pay admission again. Now the reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 is because of two comments from one of the staff members. At first she brought this little Asian girl to me and said "let's ask mommy where your headband is". I heard her and saw her coming to me but since I don't know who the little girl is nor do I know where her headband is, I didn't acknowledge the pair until she asked me directly where the little girl's headband was and to which I said, that's not my child. You can forgive someone for making one, slightly racist mistake but then another one?? Come on, lady that's just ridiculous! At an attempt to make peace because of her blatant racism, she helped my actual daughter with a sticker that was hard to peel. And then when my daughter was being shy, after I asked her to say thank you, this woman had the audacity to ask me if she spoke English! Just because my two year old is not talking doesn't mean she doesn't speak English! I don't even know why she asked that. It's the dumbest question ever, made no sense at the time, and after having a few hours to think about it, it still makes no sense. I think they ought to have a "Starbucks sensitivity training" with that employee. She was the sad part of an otherwise I'll great time the kids and I had. read more

We came to Monterey a day early and needed to entertain our kids. Definitely come to MY Museum!! It educational but fun!! Super cute! Tons to do. My 2 year old was having so much fun! There was a 3 under kiddie area with a toy boat and a slide. Toys all over and he loved the fire station. My 7 year old loved the arts and crafts, mini golfing area, pretend restaurant, and loved the theater! Pricing: I believe it was $8 each person including my 2 year old. We're members here and have been regular patrons since the days when it was at its "temporary" location on Cannery Row. This is a sort of "entry level" children's museum; it's just a hands-on kids-monkey-around indoors place, with some ostensible educational parts to it, but in reality it's just to keep the kids occuped. (There's very little in terms of educational design or focus, and some of the exhibits clearly were built around the business sponsors' ideas and not a pedagological inspiration.) I would contrast it to mid-sized children's museums (like the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose) or the grand-daddies of the genre (such as the Boston Children's Museum) as being closer to a small indoor amusement center than a real museum. However, as such, it's a godsend for local parents, but not a can't-miss destination for tourists/visitors unless you're desperate to get the kids run down a bit. The plusses: it does keep the 8 and under set occupied for a while, and all the hands-on exhibits have some appeal one way or another. They always have fun, and the atmosphere is pretty casual. The crafts area, while suffering a bit from a randomness about the materials available, is self-serve and can be used to keep older kids in the 6-10 range occupied while the younger ones ramble about (although since parental supervision is required, splitting up can be a logistical problem.) The negatives: as at the old location, they have been very bad about maintenance; some exhibits are always broken, and there's always at least one exhibit that's broken. Some of the designs of the exhibit are just not that well done (the kids are always frustrated about the insects and the giant bubble ring, which is always off-kilter and doesn't work very well) and some are not friendly to parents trying to keep their kids out of mischief. There's very little seating for tired parents or places to put infants-in-carriers, the stroller parking is basically take up space in the front lobby, and there's no gear check-in station or lobby waiting area. The "gift" shop is minimal (a cart) and there's no food to be had on-site. And, while my seven-year old still enjoys it, the level of interactivity is definitely more for the 2-6 year old range. 9 year olds and up start to get bored fairly fast, given how small it is. On the periphery, the lunch/party room is OK; we've been there quite a number of times for birthday parties and field trips from preschool, and the room is adequate, and just off the main floor. Again, adults tend to have to stuff themselves around the periphery, so this part of it wasn't that well thought out (I make contrast to the Aquarium's facilities). I do recommend the Wheelie Mobile, which is their "portable" set of amusements they will send out to your park or party for a couple hundred bucks. It's good entertainment, the 'exhibits' and activities are different from the ones in the Museum, the staff are very friendly and courteous, and it is a great way of providing a self-paced set of activities for kids from about 2-8 (with some amusements for the grown-ups). It's not spectacular but will definitely be worthwhile if you want some low-key help with a larger event for kids. I do recommend that if you're local and have a kid in the 2-6 range, particularly if you're a stay at home or the kids are only in part-time preschool or daycare, go ahead and buy the annual pass. As a destination, as long as we pace our visits and space them out, it can be a godsend for parents who need to get a break, especially in inclement weather when they're running all over the place - it's pretty much the only non-programmed spot for this in the county. read more

Hot glue gun fun. Made a pretty cool tray from wine corks. Kids had a blast. We played for about 2 hours, then walked over to Dennis the menace park to play. Then we can back for another hour. All day in and out privileges were nice. I has too much fun with the red thingy. read more

My son had his birthday party yesterday! The staff were very helpful putting up my sons decorations and taking them down. They were very accommodating! Helped us unload and load up the cars. I had party favors but wanted to add it to the my museum favors. They gave them to me the day before the party, so I can put everything together. If you have any birthday partys, I feel like this is a good place to be. My son always want to stay and never go home. The staffs are friendly with the kids. It is unfortunate for us that we will be moving next year. But I hope we can find a place like this and friendly staff as well. read more

Had a great afternoon with my 2 and 3 yo kids here. The place was very clean, staff was very nice and attentive during the art project and coloring session. There were plenty of activities and games my kids enjoyed. We spent hours in MY Museum and my kids did not get bored at all. I love how they had medical toys for them to play with and even an ambulance and firefighter equipment to explore. I recommend this place for kids under 5 years old. read more

We visited this place on a rainy Saturday so it was no surprise that it was crowded and a bit chaotic. However, my son still had lots of fun! I really love how this place fosters imaginative play. Additionally, the staff were friendly and the parents and their kids were overall civil. I only rated this business 4 stars instead of 5 because of some concerns I have about the cleanliness of the environment. Compared to other indoor playgrounds I've visited (La Petite Playhouse in Redwood City, Hop 'n Play in San Bruno and Fairfield, and Diddalidoo in San Bruno), you are not required to remove your shoes except in the 0-3 play area. As I mentioned, the staff were friendly but I wish they would take the time to wipe down the play area with disinfectant frequently or put away the toys in the appropriate areas (during the 1.5 hours we spent there, I did not observe any of this happening). There only were 2 or 3 hand sanitizer stations in the entire play area and 1 giant bottle of hand sanitizer up front and I think that is not adequate if staff are not wiping down the play area often enough (or at all). read more

A really nice amenity for Monterey, but not a great Children's Museum by most standards. First, the total area is tiny, maybe a little bigger than a full basketball court. It's just one floor so you can whip through in 15 minutes quite easily. Exhibits are fun but modest. A huge amount of area is given up for a dull mini-golf course that would please only the happiest of Gilmores. Prices are high but not outrageous. Service is friendly but scattered in the way of teenaged part-timers. A good option for kids if the weather is foul or you live nearby and could use a yearly membership. Otherwise there are better things to do with your kids in Monterey. read more

This place was very small. There wasn't much for kids to do. A lot of the activities were things like sitting in a tractor or fire truck. The kitchen was tiny. I've been to two other children's museums (Sonoma County Children's Museem and Bay Area Discovery Musuem) and it is like night and day. I have no idea how this place is still in business. Save your money and find a park (or pretty much anything else.) It's possible a very small children could have fun here but toddlers and above will get bored quickly. There isn't much in the way of parking and I had to pay for the public parking garage. We stayed about 30 minutes in total. read more

What a lovely option to take the kiddos to burn off energy and use their imagination! A little annoying that parents have to pay, but once paid you can go in and out as often as you like throughout the day. There is a cute separate kid's door to the museum and it's basically kids heaven for a minimum 1.5 hours as soon as they enter. No food is allowed there. So we took a break for lunch and then came back. The staff are super friendly. A mini golf range, hospital, EMT/ambulance, firefighters/fire truck, construction worker/build a house.... so many career paths to pretend play with a little technology/science play too. There is also a crafty corner but my boys are not into that sort of thing unless a teacher is teaching something with other kiddos involved. Some parking available on the street but there is also a parking lot not too far. We went on a Thursday morning/afternoon, it was super quiet in the afternoon. Great place for kids and adults to play. After relocating to the area, we became members right away. The staff is always very helpful and sweet with the kids. I love that they have weekly music entertainment and their crafts area is worth the membership alone. My daughter enjoys coming here. It is a great place but does lack a few things. They charge enough money to be replacing old equipment with new working toys. Every time we go something is always broken or not working properly... in my opinion, I feel like they need more activities for the kids to do, there's not enough for them to do. For example, maybe adding more than one Melissa and Doug cleaning set or more medical toys. I just don't think it is fair that it doesn't seem like any new items have been added and we've been coming here for 2 years read more

Fun enough, especially on a rainy day, but better for older, not younger, pre-teens. They manage to squeeze a LOT into a small space. Many of the exhibits relate to Monterey County (such as their golf course and agriculture area), which is a big plus. There are two small rooms that can be reserved for private parties, which is nice. Why only 3 stars? 1. It's overpriced. 2. The exhibits are highly UNinformative. They have play value, but I fail to see what makes this a museum (yes, I have worked at a museum that had exhibits just for children--why do you ask?). read more

This COULD be an awesome place, as most of the reviews suggest, however we did not have such a positive experience when we brought our 26 month old son here today. Much of the museum was in disrepair and did not work at all. The bathrooms smelled like a carpeted room of cats had been locked up in solitary for a year. Lastly, all of the plush animals that were scattered throughout the museum were dingy, old, and looked as if they'd been played with by children for ages without ever being replaced. We went here with high recommendations, and high hopes, though were quite disappointed with this place. We will probably not be back unless at least some slight improvements are made. read more

I really did not want to go to My Museum. My kids are older, the younger two are 9 and 10, so I really thought my days at "kids museums" were over. My daughter, however, felt differently. My Museum was the first thing she noticed when we drove into town and she asked to go every single day until I finally took her. We headed down on a weekday before school started, getting there right as the museum opened at 10 a..m. (I believe this was key to our enjoyment of the place, it became crowded as the day went on). I must admit, My Museum was fun (albeit not particularly educational). There were a number of interactive exhibits that allow children to stretch their imaginations and think creatively. Exhibits were: Farmer's Market, Cafe, Ambulance, Hospital (with super cool giant Operation game- bzzzt), Theater, Tree House, Golf course, Cottage, and more! My son really loved the giant bubble maker- you can stand inside a huge bubble. All in all, my kids had a great time at My Museum. I didn't buy a membership, but would have if the kids were younger. read more

MY Museum is a treasure for moms, dads and aunties alike. I was babysitting my 3 year old niece this past week and it was raining. Great! What do I do for 8 hours with a 3 year old in the rain? Thank goodness for MY Museum. I brought the little Miss here and she was entertained for hours! She loved the place so much that she refused to leave and had to be bribed with the promise of a Jamba Juice if she left quietly. I am impressed with the learning opportunities and engaging activities for children. If you want to be a fireman, you can be, if you want to drive a tractor, pick veggies, stomp grapes and run a grocery store, you can and if you want to play a round of golf or be an actress on a stage, well you can do that too. MY Museum caters to the minds of little ones and even keeps mom and dad (or auntie) busy as well. The staff is kid and adult friendly, the "museum" is clean (and has hand sanitizer and kleenex on hand!) and they also offer birthday parties. Who wouldn't love this place? We came here for the first time today, we are from out of town. FUN museum for the kiddos! The only reason I give it 4 stars is bc of the size. Not a huge place but tons of stuff to do! They have a section for Hospital play, EMT, Fire Dept, Theatre, House play, Farm Section, Putt Putt Golf, TreeHouse, Build a House, Arts & Craft, Sailing Section. My two year old loved it! Nice & CLEAN!! I'm huge on cleanliness when it comes to kid places! Staff was VERY friendly & really interact with the kiddos! Price is very reasonable: $8 for adults, $8 for children, Kids Under 2 FREE. Definitely would recommend this place & come back when we are in town again! read more

Having a membership comes in handy! My family are regulars here. My little ones love coming but lately every time I've brought them they got sick. Not sure how often toys are cleaned, but the place can use some major disinfecting. Not saying it's dirty, but I can just imagine the traffic that goes in and out and the germs is why my kids keep getting sick every visit! Now my membership is about to expire and I'm not too sure we will be renewing it. Although, the staff is great and very accommodating. I think My Muesum needs major cleaning and updating. The car rug is extremely dirty, the kitchen area toys are dirty as well. Some things also don't work like the ambulance sounds! Would love to see some changes and hopefully it can get cleaned up, until then we have to let our membership end and not return. read more

This place just rocks! Our little guy especially liked hanging out in the Pizzeria -- lots of action here, kids cooking, serving stuff up, etc. One little girl told my hubby that she had to leave to deposit money in the bank, but her employees (did those other kids know they worked for her?) would take care of him!! He also loved the "magic" painting, the dinosaur table, and the magnet table. There is also a toddler room in back with finger mazes, blocks, and books, and my nephew loved the theater set up with tons of costumes for dress ups. Kids had plenty of fun playing with the different activities available and of course I got to overhear a lot of (we're the best parents in the world) talk. It was ok for one time but I won't be back. It's got a bunch of the same stuff they would have at a nice daycare. Most people are bringing there 2 and 3 year olds here. I can't see anyone over 9 or 10 having a good time here. And there's no reason for them to use the word "museum" in their name. It's nothing more than a play space, and one that wasn't thought out very well. Great facility for kids 0-12. My 9 month old had a great time crawling around in the youngsters play area and my 9 year old niece enjoyed the arts and crafts room fully stocked with craft supplies, hot glue guns and a project helper (staff member). Staff was friendly and assured us everything was wiped down twice a day to keep things clean. Plenty of room to run, climb and be loud...if you need the kids to sleep good that night...take them. read more

Hands down the BEST museum I have been to in a LONG time! Last week my 23 month old and I ventured into MY Museum since we were visiting the area. I was blown away from the start! We ended up spending over 2.5 hours in there! She LOVED it so much! So much detail went into creating a fun learning environment for the younger child. We went through the museum several times because she kept seeing things she loved. The activities were great and so incredibly fun for kids to explore, think, and try things out. So wished we had a museum like this close to us. I have already told many people about it and that it's a must go if in the area. My Museum reminded me of Pretend City in Irvine but on a much smaller scale. Children two and over and adults have to pay, $8. Place is kept very clean and organized. I would only come back if I lived locally. It's not a place I could spend 4+ hours like Pretend City, at most 2 hours or even less. It be nice if they had little rides kids can ride around but this place is to small to have that. There are 2 private rooms for hosting birthday party's. Street parking only. This place is truly the all-ages (under 9) kid discovery center that so many others pretend to be. I just love the art area which is totally open-ended - no project of the day. Make what you feel like. YES! This time at our annual visit, my now 7 & 5 yos spent FIVE HOURS there, a new record. Cool place to take kids. This place is definitely a lot more interactive than going to one of those jungle gym type indoor places but they do have some climbing and play structures like bridges and slides. What makes this place shine is that it really is an interactive play and learning center. There are different exhibits that are completely hands on and have actions that can be done for play or with purpose. For example, there is an actual stage complete with a big dressing room full of costumes. Our favorite part was probably the place near the play kitchen where you can put large pompom balls or scarves into an air tube and they come flying out the top into a non next to you. The second favorite was the creativity station where you can build our own arts and crafts from all sorts of recycled materials. Seeing what the kids came up with was fantastic. The major down side is the busyness of the place. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon there were two kids birthday parties going on at the same time and it was kind of like walking int a circus full of screaming children. Once the parties settled down and families left it was easier to not feel so overwhelmed and crowded. Seems like a busy place but mainly during birthday parties because the non-party weekend crowd was very manageable. read more

We had several hours to kill before we could check into your hotel, so in addition to lunch we spent quite a bit of time here. It's an advancement on the indoor playground thing that's spreading lately, but with a focus on interaction over free play. They have things like a crafts area, computers for kids to play on, lots of dress up opportunities, and an area where they can put on a theatre production complete with CCTV monitoring. My only quibble is with the general pricing. Everyone entering pays the same except for the 2 and under set. They should allow the first adult with a child in free and charge for additional adults. My 2 cents. Anyway, it wasn't applicable to us because we just happened to come on $2 Tuesdays, so all three of us got in for just over the cost of a single admission. $5.50 2 and up. If there's more than one parent per child, the excess person should definitely bring a book. 4 stars. read more

We had such a good time with a 1.5 and 6 year old. Most activities are for all ages. I can't say there was a favorite activity, they seemed to enjoy everything. The new air based activities with bottle rockets and balancing balls was pretty amusing, even for the adults. As an adult, I really enjoyed watching the boys play with the building house and tools, the arts and crafts section and the huge operation board. Great price for an hour and a half of fun. read more
