I can't say enough about how well I feel I was treated by Mike at My Mechanic. I'm driving a 9 year old car and wanted to get some regular maintenance done on the car, without waiting almost a month to get to a dealer. Mike worked with me when I requested that he use OEM parts. He also called before doing some requested work. Since I tend to follow recommended maintenance schedules, whether the parts are fully worn out or not, Mike called to double-check that I really wanted to do the work before he started the job. I bought my minivan in today for an inspection. The wait wasn't bad and everyone I spoke to was pleasant and professional. I saw the technician inspect my car and he was thorough. Unfortunately, my car didn't pass the inspection but he explained what I needed to do and that I can have it reinspected within 60 days at no additional cost. I feel that I was treated fairly and with respect and I will definitely be bringing other vehicles here in the future. read more

Needed to get an inspection done fast seeing as how I let it lapse and totally forgot about it. Got the tires replaced and then couldn't find anyone who does inspections anymore.. I've passed by this shop a million times and never thought about it before. Went in asked if It was possible to get an inspection done with no real notice. Gentleman I dealt with was friendly took the car in immediately and did it quickly. Based upon how they handled this if there is work I need once my warranty expires I'll likely return here. Nice to see local independent shops like this around still, I loathe going to dealers unless it's warrantied work. read more

My car had been involved in an accident with a pothole. An exhaust leak resulted. I called My Mechanic and spoke with Steve. The situation was thoroughly explained to him. After looking at my car he came back with price of $1100, for a flex pipe and another $200 for an o2 sensor. I reminded him that this would be an insurance claim and that an adjuster will be by to look at the car as well. I did not hear from him until the next morning which is when he informed that A) he is not doing the repair and B) He does not deal with insurance companies. Well, I can respect that, however, when I originally called, he could have told me that. The amount of undue stress was terrible and not necessary. All Steve had to do in the beginning was tell me that he was not interested in fixing my vehicle at the initial point of contact. My car was then towed to a franchise of Lou's Exhaust. The price dropped dramatically and my vehicle will be ready tomorrow. In the end things worked out, however, Steve should have been more honest to start with. As a result, I will stick with my normal mechanics that are 1 hour away from home. read more

Anyone in the Ayer area with a car in need of repair should go see Mike at My Mechanic. I don't happen to live in Ayer, nor do I own a car, but I still know that Mike at My Mechanic is the guy to see, especially if you have a flat tire. Here's how I know: Last Saturday, two friends and I went hiking in the White Mountains. When we got back to our cars, one of us discovered that she had a flat. As we commenced to change the flat, we found that the rust on the cage enclosing the spare under the car made it impossible for us to get it down, plus the lug nuts on the flat tire were so stuck we couldn't make them budge. Yikes! Now what?! Luckily for us, a friendly fellow hiker saw us struggling and offered to help us out. Our Good Samaritan was Mike from My Mechanic! Mike not only got the spare down, and wrested the lug nuts free (with the help of a big, strong friend of his), but--when he discovered that the pressure in the spare was too low to be safe for my friend to drive on--he threw the spare in the back of his pick-up, drove to the nearest gas station (which wasn't nearby at all!), filled it with air, came back, and finished changing the flat! Amazing!! We might have waited hours for a tow truck, or who knows how else the day would have ended? But thanks to Mike, my friend got home safely and our beautiful September day of hiking in the mountains had a happy ending. THANK YOU, MIKE! And thanks to your family, too, for keeping us company while you saved the day. So, Ayer area automobile owners, please reward Mike for being such a great guy and skilled mechanic and take your car to My Mechanic when it needs repairs!! I stopped in to see if My Mechanic could offer a cheaper fix than a local dealership - they sure did! The husband and wife who man the front desk were super friendly! I had to call a few times and ask if they had received the part they were waiting for. Unfortunately I was given a far from perfect fix to the problem with my car. After paying for the fix and checking out the half-done-job I questioned the owner. His wife but her head down and didn't make eye contact and he simply replied that he had not checked the status before and therefore he did the fix to what he felt was successful. At the end of the day: every time I go to open my gas tank I will think about the half-done job that this mechanic did and wish my car was the way it was before. :( I wouldn't recommend going to this mechanic in the future unless you want a cheaper (in money and physical work) deal. read more

I have been using My Mechanic for many many years and have only good things to say about this shop. They have worked on every vehicle I own.... and that's been a few and gone above and beyond the call of duty. This is a family run shop and these are down to earth guys working here... so if you walk in the doors with a chip on your shoulder 9 times out 10 you will leave with your shoulder feeling better.. but there are those out there that no matter what you do, ya just can't please them. When I had work done to my vehicles I set up an appt.... they did the work.... and.... if there was something they found while working on it, I received a phone call letting me know... So I've been using My Mechanic for years. They worked on my mother-in-laws jeep, have done lots of inspections, have done work on my 2012 wrangler (lift kit etc). after trying to find an opening at any mechanic shop in the area I finally called them. I usually do all my work myself unless it is something I can't manage to do. I needed to replace my sway bar links, while I was there I also had them replace my fuel filter on my 1990 k1500. We all had friendly conversation. The service was quick, friendly and very affordable. I recommend them if your anywhere in the area and need repair. I always enjoy the dad and son shops because its a much more friendly face to face service. Great mechanic shop and I'll be back when I need help with my truck again. read more

My Mechanic is generally quite reliable with friendly staff and decent hours. They typically call before making any pricey repairs. They generally have a quick turn around. They are very convenient for getting inspections done...first come, first serve...and they are fast and reliable. The mechanic(s) are quite knowlegeable and efficient. We haven't had any problems with repairs they've made. The only thing preventing a 4 star rating is that they can be somewhat pricey. read more

Steve and his son Mike are ALWAYS friendly & pleasant. They take time to explain in detail what is going on with your car and they never go ahead with any work (even minor fixes) until they have contacted you, given you a quote and get your okay. They are sensitive to people who are on a fixed income and do the work that needs to be done without adding additional costs by telling you that it needs more.
