Around March 9th, I signed a contract with Quality Remodeling to remodel our master bath and move…read morethe laundry room upstairs. Matt was my initial contact for the contract. He returned calls and answered questions initally. But after the contract was signed, I didn't hear from him again. I did call and email him many times to get a start date. No response.
We were having 2 separate, yet related rooms done, so it was complicated. Malik came to look over what had to be done and thought it would be good to get started on the laundry room first. Malik suggested the licensed HVAC, plumbers and electricians do the work for the laundry room, then his people would come in after to do the bathroom. I have no complaint about the work done by the licensed professionals, but the cost was very high. I would highly recommend hiring your own people for any work needing to be done that Quality Remodeling guys don't do. The bill for running my dryer vent, with fan, was $3500. I was told the work would take Monday and half of Tuesday. So I thought that's a big job. But the HVAC people were here only here 3 hours. The parts may have been $800, so that's about $900 an hour I paid them. The electrician was equally as expensive. I had other electricians come in and say they would have charged me half their price. The licensed guys were here from June 12 to June 15th.
I received an email giving me the dates the licensed people would be here. They all showed up accordingly. The email then said that after they were done, Quality Remodeling would be coming in to do their work. I never thought to ask how long after the licensed people left until QR returned. Because at this point, my bedroom carpet was partially ripped up and the bathroom was gutted. We had plastic on the stairs and plastic hanging in the bedroom.
QR returned to start work on August 3rd. That's about 6 weeks we had a gutted bathroom and lived in a construction zone, with no work being done, and no communication.
When I initially went over the contract with Matt on the phone, we discussed the glass for the shower doors. I have a note that I wanted 1/2 inch glass. I remember I specifically stated that I didn't want "that thin glass". I discussed this with Matt and he said, "I would NOT recommend 1/4 inch glass." The last thing we needed to complete the bathroom and be able to use it, were the shower doors. Quality Remodeling uses a private company to provide and install shower doors. When the glass man showed up, he had 1/4 inch glass. We refused to let him install the doors. We called QR, no response. We emailed and they said the contract did not specify glass size. No, it didn't. I THOUGHT I COULD TRUST THEIR WORD and believed that they would not try to install 1/4 inch glass. The contract had the charge for 1/4 glass at $650. They want $2200 for 3/8 glass.
We ended up purchasing the 3/8 inch glass doors ourselves and installing them ourselves. Since I wasn't using the doors they provided, I asked to be reimbursed the $650. I was told no. SO IF YOU HAVE QR INSTALL BARN STYLE, 60" WIDE, 1/4" GLASS SHOWER DOORS FOR YOU, DON'T LET THEM CHARGE YOU, BECAUSE WE ALREADY PAID FOR THEM.
Needless to say, we did not have a good experience. There were so many other issues we had with them, but the shower doors was the last straw.
