This is always one of my favorite stops in Metchosin! I fancy My Chosen Pizza a LOT! We got three of them, including a gluten-free pie for our friend who needed that. We got a combo pizza where we split it in half to get enough various toppings to please everyone. I got a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and jalapeño, which was delicious. I like that they use pickled jalapeños here instead of the fresh ones. They are not quite as hot, but this batch was pretty spicy. The pizza is well cooked, but also warms up well for dinner as we had enough to eat it three more times. It's a great location, right on the corner and the staff is super friendly and very helpful. We finally made it to My Chosen Café,, there was a bit of a lineup to get a table, but then we saw that there's a bakery/ice cream place as well as a petting zoo! How cool!!! So quaint. Plus, there's also pizza... you can order pizza and eat at one of their picnics tables Once seated, we ordered the fish tempura burger and it was so good! The salad as well as the mashed potatoes were very good! It's hands-down one of the best fish burgers we've ever had. The service was great. The staff were attentive, kind, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do. Even with a busy crowd, we never felt rushed or overlooked. We had chowder and an order of French fries, and both were pretty good sized portions and the fries were nicely crispy. Unfortunately, I can't say the chowder was very good. It was okay as it did have substantial sized clam pieces and real potato, but the base lacked both depth of flavor and yummy mouthfeel. It appeared like it was thickened with flour (or cornstarch) rather than cream, reminding me more of better canned chowder than yummy seaside dining (and had some frozen peas tossed in which is weird and unnecessary). My chosen cafe is so good. If you are in Victoria and do not mind travelling this place is a must. Located in a small town called metchosin this gem of a restaurant has an old town vibe , courteous staff, an inhouse dessert store and food thats brilliant. We tried the classic chicken roast sandwich which comes on garlic bread with chicken , gravy and cranberry sauce on the side. The yam fries here are delicious. It was a busy grey day at late lunch so we put our names on the wait list and toured the desserts in the cafe because you know, "life is short, eat your dessert first!" In our short 20 minute wait, we wandered to the cafe. It was a tough call because the cheesecakes are exceptionally appealing in a variety of atypical flavours. I can see why the staff person said she often buys a few for the week for herself. That means something when staff look at it every day and purchase in multiples! My Chosen Ganache bar is a MUST try! If you love chocolate, you will likely be wowed by the quality here. This is no Nanaimo Bar alternative! The ganache chocolate layer is generous, silky and rich. It is expertly built upon the coconut cream centre and a substantial base made just perfectly moist. No dry crumbles here! It stands alone as a "house gem." You will be surprised at the affordability and be tempted to buy some for later as we did. Honestly, if you want a decadent but not cheaply sweet treat, this is it. I know I will pick it over a Nanaimo bar very single time without any question. Perfect idea to get a little box of treats for the road trip home or enjoy before petting the goats nearby. Also, I am not biased towards chocolate, I love a good lemon tart and My Chosen delivers, you cannot do any wrong here and I respect the reasonable prices. I will be back more often now. After a day looking out over the water in East Sooke Provincial Park, we decided to stop by My-Chosen Cafe for dinner. I was told that their cheesecake was simply to die for so that alone had me excited to go in. In addition to the restaurant, they also have a pizza place and ice cream shoppe on the property, which are going to be spots to visit soon as well. It seems like this is a popular spot for seniors, and they have senior discount nights, where our wisened citizens can go in and get some very reasonably priced meals! I believe these are Tuesdays but maybe call and double-check this info!! So, I was looking through the menu and everything looked pretty good, but their dinner entrees were simply calling out to me. After minor internal conflict, I settled on the hot roast beef sandwich, with chowder and mashed potatoes on the side. WOW. Basically an entire baguette was served, topped with a pile of hot roast beef, mushrooms, onions, and gravy. It was phenomenal! But in addition, I got garlic bread, steamed greens, mashed potatoes with gravy, AND the chowder with crackers! This meal was ridiculously large and delicious, and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to stand up afterward! That being said, of course we still decided to get some cheesecake to go. The Skor was calling out to me so we picked that one up, but also got the raspberry and white chocolate, on the suggestion of our server, Layla (who was fantastic, by the way!). All in all, this was a delicious, home-style meal that will NOT leave you wanting more, in a cute, inviting restaurant, at a reasonable price. I was taken here by some family who really hyped this place up. When we arrived it was very busy, which I was told was normal, and didn't mind waiting the 30 minutes for a table. In the mean time, we toured the grounds, played with the goats, and took some pictures. It was a very nice setting. The menu has a wide range of suitable choices. Once we were seated the drinks came quickly. After placing the dinner order, we waited a significant amount of time for 3 out of our 5 dishes to come. Then the remaining 2 dishes showed up minutes later. The sever apologized for this mistake. One of our dishes was cold. The food was fairly standard and nothing really jumped out or popped for flavours. I would be willing to give this establishment another try but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

I've been eating here for years. I took my children when they were young and now they eat here with their families. Reviews are mostly positive and the negative ones are certainly outliers. This restaurant is known for its rural ambience and anything else would seem inappropriate. I wouldn't classify the food as five stars as this isn't some pretentious eating establishment. But the experience, charm, service, menu variety, food quality, portion allowance, home-style comfort cooking and meal satisfaction are definitely five stars. The take out pizza, ice cream and bakery sales, plus the Critter Corner for small children lend credibility to the Metchosin country-ethos. I had the Longhorn Cesar Salad for Father's Day and I really can't think of a better salad anywhere, anytime. I was asked three times if everything was okay, that on an extremely busy weekend. Yes, there's a wait but, patience isn't the only virtue - the meals are deliciously worthwhile with their own sense of virtue if that's possible. Personally, I've never experienced unfriendly staff, though waiting to be seated can leave some flustered. Over the years as chefs come and go (I assume) and food suppliers change, my family and friends have found certain foods a bit inconsistent such as their French Fries and burger buns. Soup recipes do get revamped too. Yet their salad dressings, dips, etc., always taste fantastic, like they can do no wrong. Almost always there's a sense of fresh ingredients being used. Hey everyone, This is Piper (Sarah), professional food critic and producer of Dinner by the Minute, culinary show on YouTube. This past week I had the pleasure to dine at the My-Chosen Restaurant and Cafe in Metchosin, British Columbia. I dined in with my parents at this hidden gem where the place was fabulous from the start. With a nearby petting zoo where you can see goats, bunnies and chickens, this unique place provided a great dining atmosphere that is wonderful for all who visit. As this small tourist destination, they provide a wide range of delectable cuisine options for reasonable prices and can be substituted and changed for dietary restrictions as well. My mother ordered the Caesar Salad with Shrimp (steamed) and the portion size was what I would expect from this type of establishment. It was well within an acceptable amount for a salad considering it was also just a small lunch salad. The greens were fresh and crisp and provided a great taste. The shrimp (Prawns) were relatively large and well cooked. Although my mother was on a strict diet, they were able to accommodate her dietary requirements (as she didn't have any oils or seasoning on her salad). My father and I both had the Seafood Chowder, but I had the Deluxe Baron Sandwich (which is like a beef dip but with cheese and mushrooms). The Seafood chowder was everything I'd expect with a white creamed clam chowder base. This hearty seafood based chowder had plenty of shrimp, cod, clams and delicious side of garlic bread. The soup was the right portion size and was plenty hot. The Deluxe Baron beef sandwich was absolutely fabulous. It provided a great beefy taste that had the right amount of seasonings and was cooked to perfection. The mushrooms were not mushy but firm and the cheese was real not processed. The bun was soft and warm and freshly made. The Au jus wasn't salty in the least and provided a robust yet simple flavour. The restaurant itself was well decorated and although it had a quirky and quaint feel to it, it was fun and had a rustic feel. We really loved our server and she provided great service and the manager Beth was very accommodating, and a pleasure to chat with. We must also compliment the chef Troy for his wonderful culinary skills as well. Although this restaurant is a bit out of the way from greater Victoria, it's a great drive to this delightful place and you can even drive by the famous Hatley Castle. Next stop to a small town named Mitchosen for their infamous pizza - my chosen pizza, a clever name. We always make a stop here when near Victoria. Our favs include Popeyes which has garlic sauce rather tomato and the hungry hippie vegetarian pizza. Ordered pizza tonight and was happy to wait the 1.5 hour wait time because we new it was Friday and Valentine's Day! When we picked up the pizzas we quickly realized the boxes had an extreme smell of mildew / mold. We tried taking the pizza out to enjoy but the taste had sneaked into the pizza We called and asked for new pizzas and explained the situation. The manager was non apologetic and asked us to bring the boxes and the pizza in. So we went back to the store. The manager didn't even come to talk to us or apologize, when we got the new pizzas the boxes STILL smelt of mold. I have gone to this place on and off, for breakfast, which is usually ok, if your not looking for a nice presentation. Now the other night I went to pick up 2 cheese cakes, and1 apple pie, strait from a can. Total $20 I could not believe my bill. This was take out and is fare from even mediocre Gordon Ramsey restaurant, it's more like a grandma, no denture food kind of place in the fields. $20 and it's not even quality, I don't get it. I certainly won't do that anymore, I just don't get it. are you at least paying your staff better than elsewhere ? Because I can go up Bear mountain and eat better for cheaper, in a cleaner setting. This place is by far the best in town even tho it can be a bit of a wait it is still worth it. It may take 45 min to get in but the do have some farm animals out back you can get some photos of and maybe the odd escapee lol joking. But honestly this is a hot spot. read more

Went february 15 saturday hot there at 5 pm waited a hour to be seated, dont mind the waite for the delicious food, the only problem is there is a check in list to be seated, you come in write down ur name if the waitress isnt there and sit down and waite. Welll some couple wrote fown there name and crossed off the couples name that were in front of us waiting for over a hour and walked right in there.... Then an elderly couple came in the restaurant wrote there name again on the paper and almost went in before the customers waiting for over a hour waiting for a table. So great food always worth the waite and the waitresses have amazing table service and are so nice and friendly but please dont let people write down there own names and then sit down and cut in line in front of other people will defiently come back but that whole thing has to change. read more

This delightful family cafe is off the beaten track, out in the country. It is well patronised and, at first thought, this is because there is nothing else nearby. But, that is not the case. This is a very good restaurant. The decor is quaint and quirky in a very nice way, the seating is comfortable, the service is good and there is wide variety in the menu. We had salads to begin, then veal cutlets with mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes and an assortment of vegetables and garlic bread; this was followed by, in my case blueberry pie with icecream and in my girl's case, apple pie and ice cream. Both pies were made on the premises. The quality of the food is excellent, the quantity can't be criticized. For those who have been to the southern US, the best comparison is with the Cracker Barrel chain, although it must be said that My Chosen is probably better. The value for money is great (it was surprisingly cheap for the quality and quantity) and there are good value specials throughout the week. This eatery is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, sells pizza also and, on the same premises, there is a gift shop/soda fountain. It's a good place to eat, when you are next off the beaten track in British Colombia. read more

A regular place for us to go...Went about two weeks ago ordered Kalamari as usual..It had some kind of paper folded up in it.The waitress told us it was parchment that they lay it on when it's frozen...Only it was much thicker than that..Yuk. Do NOT support this business. They have absolutely terrible customer service. We tried to go there for a late dinner tonight (4 of us total including a child who was hungry and needed to eat). We waited 20 minutes for a table, then finally a few minutes after being seated a manager comes out and tells us we are unwelcome in their establishment. We asked why and her response was that because my husband went there over a year ago to eat and sent his food back to the kitchen because it wasnt cooked properly. They say that is "too many problems" and we are unwelcome. We said that seems a little outrageous especially since we have a hungry child with us and also during a time where businesses are trying hard to make money and keep business. The manager simply kept stating after this that she was "not willing to talk about it any further". I dont believe anyone should support a business that has such terrible customer service. In the past several years we have been to MyChosen Cafe lots of times and spent lots of money there, as has many other friends and family members. However apparently after one time where the food wasnt right, you get banned for saying something. Dont go unless you plan to not complain about anything no matter what, it will get you banned. Awful food and really poor service. The worst food I have had in a while and it took a long time to arrive after we ordered. Overcooked and tough to chew as a result, some parts were even burnt. Wait staff didn't even come by to ask how it was. The person I was with had a salad that was very over dressed and the seafood sandwich was also overdressed. Must update my review from months ago. Up until now we have been satisfied with the pizzas but after tonight I don't believe we will be returning customers. The crust was not good. Better crust in the frozen food section at a grocery store. The meat used you can find in luncheon meats. We were surprised to discover that! This is a beautiful Island community. The setting is a bit rural. The food is delicious. The calamari is amazing. The seafood platter was delicious. I would give the chowder a 95 out of a 100. Not necessarily the most intimate of romantic destinations but a great place to go with some friends for a drink and some great food. This is definately the place to order pizza!! The crust isn't to doughy but not to thin which only means it's PERFECT! When you walk in, it smells of fresh delicious pizza!! & that's exactly what you get (: I only visit Canada a few weeks out of the year, and this would be one of my top five places to eat! They have a little petting zoo of goats and chickens across the parking lot which is fun to visit while waiting for your pizza. Ugh. It hurts to only give 2 stars. . This place was always on a pedestal for me (and most of Victoria imo) but during our lunch I was way underwhelmed. Service was slow but then it took forever for our food. My burger was so basic, uninteresting and the fries were edible, OK. And my partner's potato skins were... Gross... Unless you like potato skins stuffed with green peppers? ‍. Nope. A very disappointing encounter. It's like they forgot other restaurants have been raising the bar of what's good and maybe they should follow suit? OK but yes this was one lunch! We've eaten here three times, lured by the ambience of Metchosin and the reviews on Yelp. But methinks that anyone with a taste for basic non-industrial-grade processed food is going to be disappointed.
