I guess not from people who look like me. ‍ So I had to leave my house and go get cash. In addition the deposit was 65% of the total. The total was $775 and I gave him a $500 CASH deposit. We signed the contract, which is a legal agreement, but because of the way I look that wasn't enough for him. He added a hand written portion on the bottom of the contract that the deposit was non-refundable after I returned from the bank, he requested that I sign the little portion that he wrote in. I guess he assumed that I would ask for my money back after he was paid. I'm not sure. I specifically asked him why he added that portion in and he said it was just to protect his business. I'm assuming he just thought the worst of me because if it was to protect your business then why not add that it to the contract to protect your business from everyone for the past 20 years. Very shady. I guess we are still In the 1950's. On 7/14 he returned to do some spaculing and we spoke about what happened from the day prior. What sparked the conversation is that he charged me for materials and then asked me for the money for the materials. I assumed that I would pay at the end since he has a $500 deposit to cut a whole in the wall. However he wanted his money right then and there. I took a picture of the receipt and he then told me that I cannot take a picture of the receipt because it has his credit card information on there. Again he's thinking the worst of me. If he allowed me to pay with card he would've had my card information and address. Secondly, what could I have done with the last four digits of his credit card??? I'm not sure why today was the toughest time to start when they came to give an estimate and I agreed to the estimate. To me it would seem more reasonable that you would do the estimate and start the job right away. My final thought on this is that his math was wrong on the contract and he began getting loud with me because his contract says $225 as a balance and he was requesting $275. As an agreement he took off $25 . Not to mention this job didn't include sanding and painting the wall. Save your money and go elsewhere. If you support this kind of behavior or ideology then you can continue to support this business.
