The service was horrible, one patron actually got up and left and no one seemed to blink an eye. My gyoza came out cold and i'm not sure what their definition of fusion is, but I think this placed has only fused their definition of Chinese/Asian with bad taste. What a waste of money. For a restaurant that is considered to be the Olive Garden equivalent to asian fusian, it far surpasses expectations. For chain restaurants, this restaurant understands it probably wont live up to the PF Changs of the world, and its ok with that. Its comfortable in its own Osaka Mustard skin. I have been coming here on a regular basis since 2008. Perhaps i am more forgiving due to nostalgic ties. Or perhaps because the waitstaff is awesome (Amanda for one), and the food is always quick yet good (for lack of a better word). In any case, i hope this restaurant will be around for years to come. As an added bonus, any dish on the menu can be made vegetarian, substituting meat for tofu. For a world that is rapidly turning to more compassionate dishes, this restaurant has been on the eco bandwagon for 10 plus years now. Another reason to remain loyal. read more

I'm a little bit of a food critic and a blogger on Facebook mostly but this one stood out a little bit two days after everything has been shut down for nearly 3 months due to coronavirus and servers are due to go back to work finally after all those long days of waiting with no income I decided to go out and share the possibility of getting Covid for third time even though I don't have proclamations yet. I love Noodle Express for casual lunch fare and have always had a great meal at the downtown location, but was very disappointed in the Mustard Seed in Northtown Mall. The food was barely warm and the chicken over cooked and the cost was double what I pay at their off shoot, Noodle Express. I won't be back anytime soon. read more

My husband and I have been here a couple of times for lunch and had a few different options from the menu. Each time it was freshly prepared selections and served promptly. One of our favorites in Spokane. Love their Osaka Chicken. Go often for lunch. Their lunch bowls are great and generous. Their service is very good. Their Asian slaw is delicious and their entries are excellent. We love their spring rolls, and I get the Osaka Chicken, my husband gets the Spicy Ginger Chicken. They make their own sauces. Now they sell them. We travel most of the year, so I buy their sauces to take along. They're that good! read more

I have been going to the mustard seed since it was downtown. Yes it is not authentic but it does not matter because the flavors are quite good. The servers have always been attentive and friendly. I have never had a disappointing meal here. The one time i had a bad experience they more then made up for it. This is not Japanese or even Chinese food. More like a local knockoff of PF Changs. Not that PF Changs has great food, but it's better than the Mustard Seed. A couple of the menu items are okay, but nothing stands out, most of the dishes are pretty bland. One thing that I do appreciate, is that the quality of meat is much better than what you'll find at most Asian restaurants around Spokane, The chicken and pork actually look and taste like chicken and pork, instead of chunks of gristley, fatty mystery meat that you'll find at a lot of places. read more

Nice looking and clean restaurant, but the food is kind of bland, and a bit overpriced. We had the cashew and almond chicken served with the house rice. Veggies on the cashew chicken were nice and fresh but the sauce was pretty flavorless and there wasn't much chicken. Almond chicken was bland. House rice was very salty. Only good thing to say about our lunch yesterday at the Mustard Seed at Northtown is that the Mac 'n Jacks was nice and cold. Oh, one more thing...our waiter was very friendly. The food was not good. My boyfriend had a Thai-inspired noodle dish that was lackluster and not at all memorable. I had the California Chinese Chicken Salad. The chicken was pre-cooked, chopped, refrigerated chicken breast. Gross. The greens were not top quality, and there was way too much dressing drenching them. The walls of the booth we were sitting in were gross. Food stuck to them and grimy, little kid hand prints on everything. We won't be going back. Just didn't feel good about spending $40 on such a lame meal in such a grubby and depressing environment. read more

I love their food but their delivery service sucks. I have ordered delivery many times ALWAYS hoping this time they will get it right because the food is great. However, sadly, they NEVER do! All I want is extra teriyaki sauce. Today we got instead extra Osaka sauce (not ordered), other days no extra sauce at all. Once or twice I get it. But this many times and their system is f*d up. I eat at the Mustard Seed at least once a month probably more. The food is always very very good, whether it's lunch or dinner! The service in the dining area also very good. Ever eaten the lounge? Well DON"T I have tried it now three different times "eating in the lounge" and all three times had Campbell as our server," name off my receipt " 12/21/2016 why he is still bartending and serving the public and not in the dish room washing dishes I have no idea! Horrible service, a pompous attitude, not friendly at all, his face would crack if he smiled. An exceptional place to eat!! I work at the Northtown mall and I am always suggesting that others try out the mustard seed! There are so many great dishes to choose from and you receive great tasting food every time! In the past 2 weeks I have dined in twice and received amazing service. The first occasion Tiffany was my server. I wanted to try something new and she gave amazing suggestions as well as went above and beyond to heat up my dressing which btw was an awesome touch! She had a great understanding of the menu and her engagement with us was delightful and really made us feel special. I was so pleased with my experience that I decided to take a colleague from out of town here while she was visiting. Again we received amazing service. This time Monica was our sever. The person I was dining with had a few special requests and Monica made it so easy to adjust things to her liking. Food was amazing and came out quickly. I've eaten here twice and it reminds me of P.F. Changs only not quite as good. It is a little cheaper though. The food was consistently good but nothing special. Wow -- I'm surprised that people are so vehemently anti-Mustard Seed. I like this restaurant a lot. The food is always hot and tasty, and the green-bean appetizer is incredible; everyone I know who's tried it loves it. I have a soft spot for the Asiian cashew seared chicken, but I've enjoyed everything I've had here (other than the ginger caramel chicken, which is cloyingly sweet). I don't know about the Mustard Seed's authenticity; nor, really, do I care. It's a nicely decorated, scrupulously clean, and fairly quiet place with friendly -- but not TOO friendly -- servers and delicious food. The margaritas are great, too. It was decent food but the service wasn't that great, well our server wasn't. We got there and were told it would be a bit of a wait for a booth so we opted for a table. We got seated and several booths were open and then several were just not cleaned yet, not sure what that was about. We ordered our food and I felt like it was overpriced for the portions. Our waiter took our order then disappeared until after we got our food which was brought out by someone else. Didn't have anyone check on us since that and then we finished our food with empty drinks and waited for 20 minutes before finally getting up to ask for our check. The other waitresses were good and running around like crazy but ours, ehh saw him maybe 3 times. I also am I waited so I understand at times but when it isn't very busy it gets ridiculous having to wait that long. read more

I have eaten at the Mustard Seed since the 70's YES the 70's... it was first opened in Missoula, Montana. The food is exceptional! Reading somewhere in the comments.. that they are trying to be a "knockoff" of PF Changs HA! Changs did not exist in the 70s. Perhaps it is the other way around... Any way I cannot rave enough about the wonderful food. Further more, if the food was not good the restaurant would not have survived for all these years. Way to go MUSTARD SEED! If you are at Northtown this is where you must eat. Great asian food! Try the Osaka Chicken or the Thai Style Chicken Ceasar, you wont regret your decision......Also the Mustard Seed in the valley provides equally delicious food. The atmosphere in the valley doesnt match Northtown, but a very convient location on Sprague. read more
