My car wouldn't start! Panic sets in! I went across the street to a different mechanic who would come look at my car or give me any advice about what to do. So I called my insurance agent. He recommended Mustache Mechanics, because they work with a lot of Priuses. Nestor (the owner) and Egly the receptionist put me at ease. They gave me the contact info for Benjie's Towing, who came to jump start my car. Then, I drove over to their shop. They were able to change my Prius battery (a gel one) for $325. The work was completed within 24 hours and I can drive my car again! read more

The best Mechanics in town, been coming here for about 3years and I love that they educate you on the issues with your car, give good recommendations and honest advice. I have never felt overcharged on services like other cars places and most importantly I've never had to leave my car for more than a day unless they are ordering parts and even then it stayed for maybe 3 days max. I'll keep coming here read more

I have consistently brought my truck and my wife's car for repairs and maintenance. I am happy with this place as they tell you what the problem rather than just changing parts until they fix the problem. Price is also right. They have never overcharged me, and they hourly rate is on pair with the industry (no dealer prices). In terms of quality of work, i don't recall having to go back for a review of a repair. Once something was repaired, i had no issues. They can work on older and newer cars without any issue (they work on our 2001 Ford Ranger and on our 2013 Ford Cmax). Sometimes it is hard to schedule things in a rush (understandable as they have a lot of cars for repair) but they will try to find you a spot if you need an urgent repair. read more

Shout out to Mustache Mechanics Auto Repair for a stellar job. They diagnosed an electrical issue wreaking havoc on my car's system that three other shops missed. They were thorough, fast, and above all great with their communication over text, email, and phone. They get my highest recommendation. read more

The dealer said my car had nothing wrong with it. They looked it, found a problem and fixed it, and so far my car is running really well. The owner is super nice. And I like that they send the estimate by PDF so the repairs are super easy to understand. I'll definitely go back there again, I'm glad my neighbors told me about this place. read more

** WARNING - Long review** We were regular customers but within the past year they have cost us over 3k in repairs through 1) over charging us and 2) negligent service leading to a second mechanic having to fix the problem. In June 2023 we brought our Mazda CX-5 in to have the rotors looked at since the car was shaking when using the brakes. At the cost of over $2k we had- Front and Rear Brakes and Rotors replaced, calipers serviced, four new tires bought and balanced, and an oil change (for over $100 mind you). We also brought our car in a second time in June because the parking brake was sporadically sticking and would not release when trying to go into reverse. For this issue we were told the problem could not be replicated and things were fine. In September 2023 when the rear passenger tire starts smoking and smells like brakes, we again go to the mechanic. They replace the hydraulic hoses for the rear brakes for roughly $462. I ask why this was not done three months prior when we got all new brakes and was told "this is an issue we wouldn't have noticed before." I still question why the hoses were not inspected at the June visit (negligence in my opinion). Earlier this month (June 2024) we seek a new mechanic because our parking brake is still causing issues and we no longer trust Mustache Mechanics to do a thorough inspection. We take our car to Glen's Auto Service (recommended as a mechanic familiar with Mazdas) and within ten minutes a mechanic was aware of the issue at hand since he has seen it many times before. However, due to complete negligence and faulty labor on behalf of Mustache Mechanics we get this message: On your 2016 Mazda CX-5 the rear calipers were leaking brake fluid, some of the fluid leaked on to the parking brake actuators causing them to fail. Due to this failure the brake pads and rotors were very burned. To fix the vehicle we had to replace the rear brake rotors, pads, calipers, and the parking brake actuators. I have included with this email the Invoice for the repairs, the codes that were present on the vehicle, and pictures of the damaged parts. Thank you. We had to replace our brakes and rotors within one year of them being installed on our car. The mechanic at Glen's was aghast at the condition of the car and said, "I cannot believe the brakes didn't lock up on you while driving." He also pointed out that our tires had been balanced in six locations. Not four, but six. I would like to point out that up until last spring and summer we didn't have a bad experience with Mustache Mechanics. But I can say with absolute confidence that they will never get my business again. read more

Mustache Mechanics - Busted brake pads (only on the car 12 months) - Auto Repair Near Me - Kensington, Maryland

I have used Mustache Mechanics for a couple years now and they are awesome, very fair price, super convenient, and they text (very responsive). Oil, brakes, new clutch, battery, and more and it was all great and extremely professional. On one occasion, I had a scraping sound on my wheel and an employee tweaked it and it stopped. He explained to me that it would cost thousands of dollars to get replaced but that it was completely unnecessary and not to let anybody talk me into replacing it. It saved me tons of money and was a wonderful example of his integrity and professionalism. I also have a second very old and complicated car. There were all sorts of electrical issues after the car battery died. Two other mechanics told me I would need to pay $2500 (and wait 5 months to get the part). The owner of Mustache took the time to research the issue for me and found a service that reprogramed the part verses replace it which cost me only $250 and he didn't even make any money off of me for it. He will go above and beyond for his customers. You will always know you are getting the best service at Mustache. read more

Excellent Mechanic. If he can't fix your vehicle, he will tell you right away or if you will put more money on your vehicle without any satisfaction, he will recommend you if possible to look for another vehicle. For instance in my case, he told to get my car fix (about $3500) in stead off getting another used car which could possibly hide more work. I decided to go with his recommendation. Except changing my oil car , I have not gotten any major repairs for more than 4 years. By the way my vehicle is currently 18 years old.Go Rav 4. By: ADRIEN C....RELMO read more

As someone who has been a backyard mechanic for forty plus years, I find that this incredible repair shop has the best diagnosis team I've ever come accross. Their understanding of cars - especially Prius' - is the best. On numerous occasions I have also found them to be totally honest, efficient, and very reasonable priced. read more

service : break replacement & key fob battery replacement. car: 2006 Honda CR-V Initially service was fine, fixed my breaks & sent me home with an operable key. However just 1 week into using my key it stopped working again. (The lock/unlock button) I had to again resort to manually unlocking & locking my vehicle. I spent $150 for a replacement key that lasted 1 week. 3 stars because I live out of state and never attempted to resolve this with them. read more

Trustworthy, straightforward and very reasonably priced. All around positive experiences after working with Mustache on several occasions. I've now had three cars in for state inspections as well as some minor repairs done on the electrical and lights. Mustache has been easy to work with (including timing and scheduling), quick to get the job done, and detailed in their explanations of the work and the cost drivers (parts vs. labor) for each and every repair. Another good tip: Mustache can also repair and replace Hybrid batteries for a Toyota Prius at a much better price than the dealer. Worth checking it out. Mustache Mechanics is run by Nestor and his team. They're based along a small strip of shops off Connecticut in Kensington, just behind the Chipotle, Five Guys, Ace hardware, etc. Look for the sign with the large black lettering across two storefronts. read more

My brakes were TOTALLY messed up. Unfortunately, I really pushed them to the limit. After I talked to a couple of other mechanics on Capitol Hill, a good friend recommended Mustache Mechanics. Bottom line: 1.) He was much less expensive AND actually fixed the problem, because he only fixed what was needed. 2,) He took the time to show me exactly what the issue was, described how it probably happened, and gave me an honest assessment of the other repairs that I should address in the near future. I will definitely be back! Nestor and crew are friendly, knowledgeable, good at explaining the issue, and they don't overcharge you by adding on other costs not related to the actual problem. read more

We took our Prius to Mustache motors for a year during the pandemic. They did good work the first time so we took it back when we had an insurance claim. But they let the adjuster make the final determination. We had faith in their ability to advocate for us and see the problems that the adjuster didn't want to see. But they didn't want to take the time to do that. Even when we told them the car did not drive like it should, they refused to look for the problem. So why did we use them? Don't know. And we won't use them again. They cost us $500 in repairs that the adjuster did not include and Mustache would not look for. So don't assume they will go out of their way for you, because they won't. read more

Nestor and his mechanics are absolutely top-notch. I brought my 2011 Escape with 200k miles on it in for an inspection. They carefully looked it over and pointed out in person the few things it needed in order to pass. Finding a good and trustworthy mechanic is hard, so their willingness to explain and show me everything was very appreciated. The work was then completed on time and at an incredibly fair price. Couldn't be happier! read more

Nestor and his team have serviced our cars for a few years now. They are always quick, reliable and straight forward. For once, I feel like I am getting a straight answer and recommendation from my mechanic that is not driven by sales tactics. The work is top notch (he used to run repairs at several local dealers), but now that he has his own shop, he provides the same support at a fraction of the cost. I highly recommend! read more

I called to have my battery replaced for my Honda CR-V. I was told it would take less than 30 minutes and I should come right over. It actually took 15 minutes, and the price was very reasonable. Plus, cool decor- can't beat Back to the Future stuff and pinball! read more

I have been taking my cars to the Mustache for more than 3 years. He has always been fair and honest. He is very smart and finds problems quickly. I recommend him to everyone who doesn't already have a smart and honest auto mechanic. read more

I took two cars in for the Maryland inspection. Both failed, but entirely because I wasn't careful about making sure they were ready before I brought them in. Mustache Mechanics was great about carefully explaining what I needed to do to get the cars to pass. Also, it is one of the few places open on Saturday for inspections. Just call a few days prior and schedule the inspection. read more

What peace of mind to find an honest, skilled mechanic with reasonable prices! Nestor is also friendly and helpful; he really surprised me with his ability to remember cars he previously worked on. I feel absolutely comfortable having my car and my daughter's car serviced here. I trust his advice and his prices (always well below what the dealership charged for the same service.) Supporting a local businessman is great and he can give you referrals to other quality local businesses! read more

These morons ignore your messages because they are scared to do simple maintenance. They are probably are scammers too!

If you are looking for a local honest mechanic this is the place. Nester has worked on both of my vehicles. Friendly helpful service.
