DISCLAIMER: it appears that most positive reviews of this place on different platforms are based on JUST the bar alone-not actually staying here. That experience is MUCH worse (see below).
I would give this place a 0 star if I could. The place is NEVER cleaned-each year we show up we have to vacuum ourselves due to the dirt, grime, debris left all over the floors & furniture. There's mouse turds in the cabinets, cobwebs everywhere on the baseboards & ceilings, bugs that haven't been cleaned out in months from fixtures & window sills, plus tons of fixtures in different cabins that are broken down, doors that don't seal, floors that are uneven, bed sheets & towels with stains/that haven't been washed (we bring our own each year) etc. Don't get me wrong, we don't expect a 5 star hotel when we are coming up to a summer cabin, but it's also frustrating to pay what this place charges despite it being clear it NEVER gets cleaned between different guests nor maintained despite increasing costs year after year.
Our family had been coming up to this lake for 30+ years, including this place for the last handful when the prior spot closed prior to the new ownership and had zero problems with the previous owners, but were just told while paying and trying to book for the next year that "we were no longer welcome"/that the owner wouldn't rent to us because our children were too loud. For context, there are 5 different kids 4 and under total including 2 newborns (who granted do cry at times) but the rest just played outside & did regular games, riding bikes, etc at normal times of day (not super early or late at night, and not constant yelling by any means-just regular summertime family fun). There also were NO other people up here renting cabins besides our group, aka no one else to disturb, but the owner said despite that, it was too loud since SHE lives here. You run a business & choose to live at this location-that's your choice? She also stated she'd prefer to rent only to older couples that came up, and that we were really one of the only families that came which she didn't want to do. That's discrimination, and because we are trying to create memories with our kids just like we grew up doing? What a joke.
Not to mention the owner is EXTREMELY rude every time we've dealt with her (ever since the prior owner sold), never around when things break or have issues, ignores attempts at contact, and also lets her dog roam constantly off the leash with no overwatch (it walks right up to our areas including outside our doors growling, on our decks sniffing for food and in our space constantly when she's no where to be seen or makes ANY attempt to watch it, and has gone after a couple of our dogs in the past that we've had to break up and worried for their safety).
To top things off, she waited til we were literally in our vehicles the next morning on the day we were heading home to walk up to one of us alone & I striate a confrontation, insulting us as guests, that we should be embarrassed by our cleaning despite us not only doing every cleaning task asked of us in the cabin rules but also going above and beyond due to the state we found it in. When told that we have expressed frustrations with her in years past about the state we find the cabins at check in and how we have to bring our own vacuums/cleaning supplies, she rolled her eyes & swore repeatedly at us stating "this is why I don't f-ing want any of you back" and "I don't need your f-ing business or money, I couldn't care less about what my customers think".
Our person then responded by saying not only had we NEVER been told in the several years with her as owner that there were any issues or problems with us as guests, but we'd also had zero problems in the prior 30 years until all of a sudden now, she again responded in a rude & sarcastic tone, stating that she was "glad to get rid of whoever the f she wants", that "no one will believe us/she will just deny it anyways if we gave bad reviews or that she will just report them as spam to get them removed" and that "we probably can't afford to stay anywhere else", all the while swearing at us with children around, getting in our faces, and starting a pointless & aggressive confrontation when we were A) already leaving and B) you had already told us we couldn't re-book next year-so what else was there even left to say?
I never bother to write reviews good or bad so this isn't an "regular complainer" situation, but given all the issues & things we've had to deal with, not to mention the most awful, rude, lazy business owner I've ever encountered, I HAD to write something to warn others. Overall there are MUCH better places to stay nearby in the same area that are at least worth the money-don't waste your time here. read more
