Not very friendly at the front desk, We had a room with a king bed and a sleeper sofa. I had called several weeks before to see what the condition the sleeper sofa was in. I was told they had no complaints. The sleeper was so bad, you could count every spring! Bathroom had a very small vanity. Never staying here again. Clean rooms upstairs. They don't have an elevator which was extremely dissatisfied. The lower level isn't as nice as the upper level. Overall good to stay, pool & restaurant nice. The staff are kind but not friendly. A simple smile and body language of glad your are here would go a long way. Always willing to help but again just smile seem pleased with your job and guest. We met my husband's two brother's, sister & spouses for a sibling get together. We live in northern MN & they all live in WI, so we found a location about halfway for all of us to spend a couple of days together. Checked in on Sunday, April 27th, 2014 Checked out on Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 We are definitely in between the busy seasons of winter and summer tourist season, so the hotel was quiet, hardly any other guests, and very accommodating. When we walked in the hotel lobby, we were greeted immediately by the hotel desk clerk. Check-in was friendly, efficient & with ease as we changed our room from what was originally booked. During our stay, the 2 different hotel desk clerks & staff we encountered were always friendly & welcoming. Flat Creek Inn was originally a Country Inn and Suites, then sold to Ramada Inn and then the owner was done with franchise companies and is managing it, per the hotel desk clerk. The rooms were updated when taken over by Ramada Inn and currently there is discussion for the rooms to be updated again. It is time for the management to definitely consider this. We stayed in Room 215, a king-bed suite. The room was very clean, king bed was comfortable with skin soft bedding but the pillows were too big and over stuffed for my liking. J had no issue with them & I brought my own pillow as I'm picky when it comes to my pillow. The bathroom towels were big, thick and absorbent. The toiletries were basic, Lord & Mayfair brand I never heard of, conditioning shampoo with rosemary & chamomile, hydrating lotion with apricot kernel oil and gentle cleansing soap bar with milk and honey. Everything else in the room was the standard amenities found in similar class of hotels. I will have to agree with previous comments about the disappointing complimentary breakfast as it doesn't even compare with other breakfast offerings at 2 & 2 1/2 star hotels. Yes, there is coffee (regular & decaf) in the lobby and they made fresh when we requested. Breakfast is served at the attached Flat Creek Eatery & Saloon. You are given 4 options and "NO" substitutions are allowed. Your choices are hot or cold cereal, a large pancake, a plain Belgian waffle or scrambled eggs & toast. All of them served with coffee or milk. They have a regular breakfast menu you can order from but you will be charged the menu price. It is very important to know that there is NO ELEVATOR. We were aware of this before we booked at this hotel and we did request the 2nd floor. I figured walking up the stairs was my exercise of the day as THERE IS NO EXERCISE ROOM ON THE PREMISES. Even though you can pick up free passes at the front desk for SNAP fitness, there is something convenient about exercising right at your hotel especially during cold, rainy/sleet weather which we were having. The swimming pool and hot tub area is nice & clean. Even though the pool towels are not very big, there was an ample supply. We enjoyed the hot tub & pool on Sunday night but was really disappointed to see the hot tub down for maintenance on Monday when we went to use it. If I return to Hayward again for our yearly sibling gathering, I would prefer to stay at a DIFFERENT 2 star hotel in Hayward that has an on site exercise facility, more options for the complimentary breakfast, and being a "gold medal" winner for overall accommodations. If you are looking for a clean room with a comfortable bed, simple or no breakfast and no on site exercise facility, you will be satisfied with Flat Creek Inn. read more

Comfort Suites was booked, and after last year's nightmare with Northern Pine Inn, we decided to stay here as it seemed nice. Didn't get time to use the pool/hot tub, but it seemed nice enough. Bedrooms were very small, but clean. Very old CRT style TVs with crap resolution. The thermostat in the room was infuriating as it went between being Icelandic-style freezing to sauna-hot. And it kept waking us up all night due to the cycling. The beds seemed new but were way too hard. Instead of a continental style breakfast, they gave us vouchers to use at their attached restaurant. They would allow you just one small breakfast item (ie - 1 waffle, 1 pancake, 1 bowl of oatmeal or 1 order of eggs/toast). My kids liked the waffle, but I despised the oatmeal. Literally, the worst I've had in my life. The service was very poor too... now I know we are in some rural Wisconsin areas, but the redneck level was just too high for me. Second morning I opted for the eggs/toast, and it was actually pretty good. The door frame on our room was coming off and you could tell that there were attempted breakins in the past. Also, we needed an extra blanket and they delivered a gunny-sack style monstrosity. Very uncomfortable and weird. Moral of the story: book early and stay at the Comfort Suites. read more

My family and I have been traveling to Hayward for my entire life, and before me and my siblings, my mother's entire life (66 years). We consider it our place, and we absolutely love it up there! It's a completely different way of living than what we're used to (Chicago suburbs). It's quaint, yet vast at the same time, and if you have been up there before, you know what I mean. Disclaimer: please know that this comes as a second/sort-of/ first- hand review. A few of my family members, my mom included, booked reservations and traveled up to the Flat Creek Lodge (Inn) based off of the reviews. I am here to tell you to think again. Although my mom is a regular to the area, knows every road and detour to take to get up there, and we typically don't stay at hotels (we prefer "The Shady Nook" located right on the Big Chip), I still worry about her. This was a semi-last-minute get-away for my family considering the COVID-19 Pandemic, and a last "back to school hoorah!" After booking their reservations, they, with even the help of myself, called to confirm a few things. The internet isn't always 100% reliable, right? Not to mention, again, a pandemic. Things are different now because of it, which we get! One of those things we called on was the pool. It's getting renovations done on it, and we were told it was going to be completed by 3pm today. I even called yesterday, my family's departure day, and confirmed the finish date & time of the pool yet again. I was told that the pool would be done YESTERDAY AT 3PM. Around 10pm last night, I get a text from my mom telling me that they're going to move hotels tomorrow. I asked, "Why?? It has a 4.5 star rating on google!" Well, it turns out the pool WON'T be completed today at 3pm, but instead, a few months into 2021. Bummer. My mom goes on to tell me that it's a pretty dumpy place, and when they tried to ask to get house keeping to come and clean their room (dusty, belongings from previous customers behind couch & dresser), the hotel staff was extremely rude to her. My family tried to make it work so that they could stay. I would say, as a whole, my family and I aren't exactly hotel snobs, and we as a unit, out of EVERYBODY, understand that times are tough, people are stressed, and there is a PANDEMIC currently happening. We have multiple family members, friends, and colleagues who are healthcare workers. But when it comes to being paying customers, we do expect the room to, at the very least, be fully cleaned. Dust, and not everything (behind large objects) not being cleaned or even looked at, tells us: it hasn't been properly cleaned. And the pool. Okay, I get it. Once again, a PANDEMIC. HOWEVER, once again, I called THE DAY MY FAMILY WAS LEAVING to confirm that the pool would be completed THE NEXT DAY. The kiddos haven't had a normal summer and just wanted to SWIM! I was kind of thinking that when I called and was told the pool would be done that day, as a tradesman's daughter/sister/niece/cousin, that this pretty much meant there would be an inspection in the morning, some paperwork signed, and they were good to go! How do you not realize, and inform paying customers who you know are on their way up (8 hours from home) that the pool wouldn't be done for another 8-10 MONTHS?! There's a big difference from a few hours to almost an entire year. Both of those frustrations aside, what I will not, and refuse to condone, is the rude attitude with my family, but especially my mother. They understood the pool (I didn't, once again, 8-10 months?!) and they figured they would find somewhere on the Chippewa Flowage to go and swim at. They asked to get their room re-cleaned. They even brought the last of their Clorox Wipes, and offered to help, they just didn't have gloves to pick up the belongings that previous guests had left behind. My mom has an autoimmune disorder and just wanted to play it safe. If previous customers' belongings weren't even noticed, then what else wasn't?? The rude and demeaning attitude in return to getting what they paid for was completely unwarranted. You worry about your family, emphasis on your mom, all the time, but especially when she is traveling during a world wide pandemic 8 hours from home, and you truly don't appreciate the terrible customer service in return. Do yourself a favor and check out: The Shady Nook Resort 7140 N Flowage Road, Couderay, WI 54828 (715) 945-2265 (This is the place I was talking about and it's fantastic! Especially if you'd like a real Northwoods experience!) And in the off-season: The Comfort Inn and Suites, also located in Hayward, WI. *They're a little more expensive than this shit hole, but they're worth it. After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit concerned about staying at this property. However, many of the issues that were mentioned about the HVAC unit were not a problem. I found the system to work well and was comparatively quiet. The room itself was mostly comfortable. In fact, I had one of the better night's sleep in any hotel in recent memory. The one negative was that the room was not really designed with a business traveler in mind. The table was small and available open electrical were inconveniently located. In fairness, Hayward is one of the premier vacation destinations in Wisconsin's northwoods, so the property is not necessarily targeting the business traveler. The one design flaw with the room was that the bathroom door open towards the room door, and did not stay open without putting something in front of it. While they offer a free breakfast, my experience was not good. I waited for 10 minutes for the host/server to come by. When she did, she made me feel like I was the biggest pain for being a single diner. With her attitude, I ended up heading to the Kwik Trip fir donuts. This experience alone makes me second guess whether I will stay here again in the future. read more

I will avoid this place in future. The service is rude and some of the staff are downright nasty (IMO). I grew up in Hayward. Just down the road from where this joint is now located. I know there are many places around Hayward that are delighted to provide superior hospitality. Flat Creek apparently isn't one of them. read more

Clean and comfortable basic hotel. I think it's been recently updated. Has a restaurant attached, so that's convenient. They also allow dogs, for a fee, and have lots of grassy areas to walk them, so that's a bonus. I had to knock down a couple of stars because the air conditioner was ungodly loud. My husband and I stayed here recently for a nearby family wedding. Our room was nice, and I really appreciated that they let us check in early so we could get settled right away and be off to enjoy the day. I was totally unimpressed with the continental breakfast though. There's an attached sit-down restaurant, and the free breakfast is a choice of a few menu items. We stood in line and waited forever for a seat without being acknowledged. Finally we gave up on breakfast and just sat down by some family for the company. When a server did take our order, the food took longer than it should have for the order being just a single pancake. read more

Free breakfast value is about $4. Tried to mention it at front desk a couple times but employees were always having lively conversations about things like motor boating and 3 person showers. A hotel in a town of 2,100 people is bound to be interesting, this also happens to be a large resort town during the summer and I think this is the budget alternative for a lot of travelers. They have a very nicely appointed lobby with rustic pine furniture and a little computer area that you can do your computing on, no funny stuff though cause the front desk can see all that you do. This place used to be a Ramada and I get the impression that it's been remodeled since then. The restaurant attached is quite fun with all the exposed pine and a "stained glass" mural of Paul Bunyan. The rooms were fine, although my heater didn't really work which seems like it might be an issue in the winter....I'm just guessing on that though. read more

SUPER CLEAN!! 9-7-2020 This is the 4th time my son and I have stayed here. And I am impressed, by the friendly staff, and the Super Clean rooms. The lady at the front desk was very cheerful even with her mask on i could see she was smiling. After checking in, we went to our room, and once again it was very clean!!! The housekeepers were down the hall cleaning rooms as we walked by (Staff with masks on)- which showed that they really care about their guests. The bar/restaurant was opened until 8:00 pm, the staff there was spraying/cleaning tables. The bartender was very friendly also. Keep up the great job!!!! We will be back next March-2021 read more

The room was a decent size but the decor is dated. The carpet had what looked like water stains and the lamp shade had several small spots that looked like splattered coffee. The room had everything I needed, hot shower, small fridge, blow dryer, microwave and a small coffee maker. The complimentary breakfast is lacking compared to other hotels we have stayed at. No bagels, toast, muffins, cereal or fresh fruit just some bad egg burritos and mini omelets sitting in a warming tray. They did have a waffle maker that was the only plus. read more

I had a preview of our two nights at this hotel when the front desk staff instead of welcoming me rudely informed me that my son was not allowed outside of our room unattended at any time. He is 12, 5'8 and #100. We were then ignored while waiting at the please wait to be seated sign in the restaurant for 20" with 2 other groups. My son and I finally sat ourselves. One waitress completely ignored us for another 20" and a nice young woman took our order. Ultimately an hour and a half for eggs, toast, and milk. They just have a different definition of hospitality than any other hotel I've visited. read more

I stayed here last Sunday night...the service was good and the people were friendly. I liked that as I passed them in the hallways they made eye contact with me and said hello. The room was clean, large, the bed was okay and the pool rocked! So why 3 stars instead of 5? Because the WIFI didn't work in my room...room 110. The signal was too weak. It worked out in the lobby and all the way to my room, but not in my room. Same on other devices, too. I didn't approach the desk because I had little confidence that she would be able to help me after she initially called it HIFI. Ya...the free WIFI I consider like the TV. You just have it. This is a GREAT basic hotel. I was, unfortunately, forced to stay here when the Comfort Inn in Hayward did not have my reservation (even though I had a confirmation) and they were completely full. Right away, I liked the fact that the parking lot is very large with plenty of spaces for cars and boat rigs. I was a little nervous, because the reviews for Flat Creek are not great, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my room. It was not luxurious, but it was very clean and comfortable. The beds are firm (which I love). The bathroom was not fancy but it was clean. There is a small microwave and a small refrigerator. The tv's had been upgraded to flatscreens and the WiFi was working perfectly in my room (204). There are no elevators for access to the second floor... and this is something to be aware of, but I actually appreciated the exercise. There is an attached hotel and bar. Overall, my stay was quiet and comfortable and was MUCH cheaper than the Comfort Inn would have been... I really feel like I came out ahead. I would like to rate this hotel 5-stars, but there were a couple of things I would like to see upgraded. 1) New climate control systems. The A/C units are noisy and it is hard to find a good setting. 2) There are NO USB outlets for charging devices... and limited wall outlets. read more

The Flat Creek Inn is a fine hotel. It was clean, the amenities were nice, and things were well maintained. But, we had a couple major issues with our stay. We booked our room a couple months in advance. The hotel's website says, "call for special rates." We made the call and reserved a room with two queen beds at a promotional rate. Months later, when arrived, we were given a room with one queen bed and a pullout couch. The invoice we received when we checked out showed the promotional rate, but our credit card was charged for more than double that rate. To charge us double the promised rate for a room with only one queen bed and a pullout couch was unacceptable. The hotel staff was unable to provide any answers or solutions for either of these problems. The closest thing to a satisfactory answer we could get was a shrug. We will be turning all of our documents over to our credit card company to sort out the charges. The Flat Creek Inn has fine facilities, but beware of their unwillingness to honor their own promotions! read more

Don't visit the Eatery. They are VERY rude and I later heard the food is not very good either.

I shouldn't even give the place 1 star rating the staff isn't trained very well and when you have problems they don't contact you back.Isnt the cleanest place to stay in town and most in the restaurant were rude as well.Been staying their many times the last 3 years with other coulples but were done now. that's to bad we wanted to stay up in april 25th good band in town bot we wil be staying some where else. read more
