This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I HIGHLY do not recommend going here please take your time to read all the problems I've had with this place before booking. The first reason is before I even got in the hotel I felt unsafe by the smell of cigarettes to be met by multiple older people smoking outside staring at me . They where not only smoking cigarettes I found out later these people rent room by month and I am sure 2 am yelling was for their drug dealers. Next we finally get to the front desk to be met with a very unwelcoming man who was quite rude for no reason. His excuse was he just took over motel . We found out he had it for at least a year. Then I finally get to my room and I'm overwhelmed with the most horrible smell of dust and smoke and other unpleasant smells. We checked the bed for bed bugs to be met with hair in the sheets then when I went to take a shower I was met with blood and mold stains on the shower curtains. I felt so grossed out I had to wear shoes in the shower. Made us pay $10 per family to rent meeting room for less Than 1 hour. Other family's that went here for a tournament also had bad experience. Including blood in the sheets having to clean the room herself, bread left behind the heater , cigarette stains on the sheets and half of rooms Didn't have heat. He gave them unsafe heaters .The last night we were staying in the horrible hotel all the kids where playing having fun swimming then having to stop at 8:50 to the manager yelling at us to get out right in front of the sign that said it closes at 10 PM and it was a Saturday night. I am concerned that we will all need a tetanus shot after this weekend at the Petri dish from hell. Please learn from us and stay elsewhere. We would have if other hotels weren't full. read more

Good Lord this hotel. The first room I got had a dirty pillowcase with actual dirt on it. There was a wiener dog outside of my room on a 2 foot lead barking hysterically. A terrible experience. As another review stated "hole in the wall". Heat didn't work and their fix was a little space heater. There was an old shower curtain for a main curtain. This was, beyond a doubt, the absolute worst hotel I have EVER stayed at. It started with the reservation. The guy on the phone was incredibly rude and badgering. It took 10 minutes of discussion for him to allow me to have a room for one night instead of two. He kept telling me that he could easily sell the room for two nights, but I only needed one. I should have listened to my gut instinct and walked, but I didn't. It was $130 for 1 room, 1 night. VERY high in my opinion, but we needed somewhere to stay. I hoped that the high price would equal a great stay. Nope. When we got there, the same guy was the one at the front desk and was just as rude in person. He hated the fact that I had kids with me and said that "they had better be quiet, or I would cost him more customers". Strike two. The minute I got my keys and went towards my room, I could tell something was off about this place. There was rubble and garbage strewn all around. Broken roof pieces, sheds falling apart. Even the courtyard looked more like a graveyard with a broken swing set, deep pit full of grass and dead branches and random old wooden posts and paver stones. The parking lot was in bad shape too. We walked into the common hallway and were greeted by stark white EVERYTHING. It was almost as if they took 100 gallons of white, semi-gloss paint and just slopped it on every surface they could. It was so messily done, that there were paint globs all over the carpet and on the trim. You could tell that the painting was done quite some time ago, but there were still remnants of all of the tape around door frames and window frames. The hallways were incredibly musty and dank; smelled horribly. The room was somewhat clean, but the carpets were incredibly matted down and crusty. We did not like walking barefoot in there. As we pulled the blankets back on the bed, we were horrified to find some dead bugs under the sheets! Also, as we attempted to charge our mobile devices, we noticed that the outlets were so old and used that they would not hold any plugs! I went with my kids and one of the big things we were looking forward to was the pool and hot tub. As we entered the pool area during the evening, we were greeted with a waft of chemicals and musty, mildew smells. It was staggering... nonetheless, we walked down to the pool deck and saw what was supposed to be the hot tub. It was so murky and dirty, we couldn't even see the bottom! I own a hot tub personally and know what level of care is required to maintain PH and chlorine levels. This was a cesspool of bacteria! Suffice it to say, we did NOT end up using the pool or hot tub. The beds... oh, the beds. I think it would have been more comfortable sleeping on the floor! These were the most uncomfortable beds I have EVER slept on. Even my kids said their backs hurt badly the next morning. Must have been the absolute cheapest ones available. What else... oh, the alarm clock was dead and didn't work, the TV in the room was a 20 year old massive CRT style with horrid resolution, there were random light bulbs in all of the light fixtures (some blue color temperatures, some orange), there was a horrid outdoor light that shone through the bedroom curtain, which was impossible to block out, AND... they had an America flag hanging in the courtyard, and the flag was nearly shredded to bits. Very disappointing and un-patriotic. When morning finally rolled around, we decided to check out the "continental breakfast". What a joke! The coffee was completely watered down and weak, the orange/apple juice tasted like dull sugar water, the donuts had expired days ago (I checked the box) and the cream cheese had expired months before! It was completely disgusting. As I was checking out, I asked to speak to the owner. I attempted to plead my case and he became very irate saying that since they purchased this inn, I am the first person to ever complain about any of these issues. He kept becoming more and more angry and started yelling at me. He then said that I should have stayed somewhere else. I agree. Save yourself the money and frustration. lets start off by saying this place is disgusting. When I walked into the room the smell was musty and damp. The bed had dirty sheets and spots on the my mattress. the owner was rude and talked down to us. the pool was cold and closed down early for no reason. I was up there for a hockey tournament and the girls were having fun. He was going to charge us extra money for the conference room as get told us yhat we could use it. DO NOT RESERVE HERE! My sister ordered 2 rooms in Feb through booking.com. When they arrived, the owner claimed he didn't have any reservations and was full and ordered them to leave. There was a festival she came to attend so there wasn't a hotel with vacancy within a hour's drive. I called booking.com and they said the reservation should be valid. I asked the agent to call the hotel. She did and reported back the owner verbally abused her and claimed the customer cancelled in April. Meanwhile, the owner verbally abuses my sister and her family and calls the police. When they arrive, he tells the police booking.com sent an email cancellation in April. The police and my sister ask to see the email and the owner refused. Reading other reviews here and in Google, this is not the first time this owner pulled this stunt. The police told my sister this is not the first time they have had to respond to this location. Reserve at your own risk. read more

Let me preface by saying I've stayed in a lot of $60 hotel rooms in my life, which aren't always the fanciest but serve as an adequate place to rest your head. But this place takes the cake..... 1. White stains on the carpet and the chairs. Felt mushy in spots. We put our bags on the table. 2. One bed had yellow stains in the sheets. We slept in the other bed. 3. Coffee pot was brown and had residue/mold in it. 4. Patio deck had a cup full of cigarette butts and water on the floor. We didn't go out there. 5. Pool/spa area was operational but definitely grungy. We used the hot tub... and showers immediate after. I still regret trying it. 6. Drunk neighbors came back after bar close and we could hear EVERYTHING. And I mean everything.... 7. At checkout, the lady in front of me was complaining about the wet stinky urine/semen areas of her carpet and the blood stains on her sheets. If you are looking for cheap, this is your place. If you can not look around at the dirty halls and funky smells, this may be your place. My view out the back was a combination of a Cops Episode and a junk yard. That being said the tv kept going out and a guy came up and changed the cable, which did nothing but make the volume about 1/2. The continental breakfast is a bust. If you have any breathing issues, I would avoid this place. The staff was nice and this may have been a nice place 50 years ago. That all being said I will not go with cheap next time. I get it it this is the most you can charge for this type room and that probably leaves no money for repairs. We stayed here on a recent pre-Birkie skiing expedition. We thought the $65/night rate was promising in light of the on-premises pool and hot tub. Turns out we were right, with some caveats. Our room was small but servicable. Carpets were old and a bit dingy. Light switch in the bathroom worked, albeit in a funky way. The hotel offers in room wi-fi, but we learned that you have to ask for it when checking in. We didn't know that, and had to do without. This left us the TV, which worked fine. Room temp was quite cold when we arrived. We cranked the heat and little by little things warmed up. The pool, hot tub and sauna are in a large building at the end of the property. This was no doubt a stately structure at the time of its construction in the 70s but now appears a bit dated. The hot tub was in fact full of hot water, but the jets were anemic at best. Still, the hot water felt good after a day of skiing. The free continental breakfast consisted of weak coffee, donuts, juice, and bread for the toaster. We brought our own breakfasts so this was not a factor. In fairness, it must be noted that the current owners recently purchased the property, and are no doubt busy taking care of many maintenance items long deferred. Too, other hotels offering on site pool/hottub would be twice the room rate. Being aware of the issues mentioned above, we still consider this place a decent value, and a good venue for a ski weekend. read more

The decor says 70's and that's okay. What isn't okay is the fact that the sheets, towels, and carpet are also from the 70's. Dingy. All of the whites are, at best, pale yellow. Towels are scratchy. Bedding wouldn't make the cut on most porn sets. The carpet is damp and matted, like it has been in a bathroom or kitchen. Dusty, cobwebbed corners. I'll probably be checking for rashes and bug bites for the next week or so. A past guest's dinner splattered on the wall and heater. During my 3rd night I found two mice scampering back and forth in the postage stamp sized bathroom. Breakfast is lacking at best. Mold in the next room. TV so old I'm surprised it doesn't have a dial and rabbit ears. My company put me and the crew up at this place. Upon hearing my complaints they moved us out. It's cheap, for sure. My wife and I stayed here on a Northwoods weekend jaunt. We were just looking for a clean and affordable place to rest our weary traveled heads, and this fit the bill perfectly. The price was a slight bit much for the accommodations. $60 would have been better than $70 for the 2 queen bed room, but it wasn't a huge deal. The room was a bit old looking, but I would expect no less from a rustic motel in Hayward, WI. The pool area was actually really nice. While we didn't have a chance to use it since we got in late and left early, they have a nice sized pool, sauna, hot tub, pool table and video games. Kudos to that! The room amenities were nice. Full cable TV, mini fridge, coffee maker, ironing board (you know, so you can pimp up that shirt for a night on the town). The breakfast in the AM was donuts, fruit, juice, toast and oatmeal, so don't expect a 5-star continental. Overall - I recommend it for any length of stay. read more

The only reason they get 1 star is because we can't give them 0. I'm writing this review for my parents who were going to stay for 2 nights. They got a room with 2 double beds. My mom was laying in her bed and she just felt disgusting and itchy. When my dad went and pulled the sheets back on his bed he there was a big long hair at the top on the bed but that wasn't all... there was a giant yellow PEE stain on the sheets! After a long discussion with the manager my parents finally got there money back for the second night they prepaid for but they wouldn't refund the first night. Do not stay here. I booked with them in January for a July reservation through Booking.com. When I arrived to check in, they informed me that they didn't have my reservation. They said the same thing to the man in front of me who had booked through Hotels.com. They then informed me they had one room left, but because I had booked a room with one queen bed, and this last room available was two queen beds, I would owe them $100 more. The man at the desk also asked that I pay in cash. In addition, when my cousin checked in later, she was informed that they didn't have her reservation. She showed them her reservation, and they gave her a room, but tried to charge her more too. What I did was I walked out and stayed elsewhere. There were actually no motel rooms in the area because it was the Honor the Earth Pow Wow weekend. However, I was able to secure another cousin's room who had had to cancel because he tested positive for Covid. Clearly, they knew the area had no rooms, so they were trying to charge everyone more. Very unethical, and I will never stay there again. I suggest you don't either. read more

Mold in the coffee pot in the room!! Decor is outdated but that isn't a big deal. Room had a musty smell. Lampshades were stained. Rusty metal in the bathroom. Rust stains in shower. Long hairs stuck on the bathroom wall. Towels thin and dingy. The kids did enjoy the pool after a long hot day in 90 degrees. And free wi-fi is always a plus. My husband and I stayed in this motel over the Birkebeiner weekend. Everything booked quickly for the event and prices for places to stay tend to skyrocket. That being said, a friend booked a couple of rooms here for us in the main one story level of the motel. Upon check-in, the room looked dingy, the lamp shades were peeling and the room smelled musty. The smoke detector in our room had the cover off and no battery installed. The small plastic garbage cans had no bags concealing their filth which included caked on coffee grounds from a previous guest. The shower was full of rust stains and the floor between the vanity and the shower stall had what I'm pretty sure was black mold. We kept all of our belongings up on chairs because the cleanliness of the entire room was questionable. Upon our return home, we had to launder all of our clothes and soft sided bags because they smelled like the room days after our return. The pool area and whirlpool had great potential but the pool looked as though there was green algae on the bottom. To their credit, they did have a room designated for waxing our skis, but we were closely monitored by a staff person who didn't seem to trust our motives. We don't mind staying at old facilities, but we at least expect a room to be clean. We had nowhere else to move to because of the busy weekend and to make matters worse, the owner was asking $179.00 a night to stay which was outrageous to us given the conditions of the facility. We will never return to stay here until the owners decide to clean the place up and bring it up to code. read more

The room was clean and looked nice.We had a second story room with a balcony which was nice. They had turned the ac on before we had arrived so our room was nice and cool. The staff was extremely friendly and easy to talk to as well as extremely helpful. We had an issue with the television constantly cutting in and out, which wan't that big of a deal since we were not there much. The pool and hot tub I did not like at all. The pool only goes from 3'-6' so my daughter wasn't able to play in it very well and it was not that big. There was green slime on the bottom of it, looked very dirty and it was extremely cold. The hot tub had black gunk around the filter and looked very dirty. Those were the only two things that had me give the rating. Would have given a 3 1/2 star if I could. read more

Since this company was sold to new management a few years back a once retreat of Hayward has become an embarrassment. We used to go as kids to this for all birthdays for swimming parties. Now I had family come up and they were rude over the phone because we would be arriving later on in the night, hand wrote down the credit card info to charge ahead...how NOT safe. We changed our mind and tried to call and cancel. They refused and tried to charge our account anyway but had apparently written down the # wrong...so then called us every day for two weeks badgering us to pay it. Forget it! read more
