He's definitely more the musician than I am (still learning) but we both agreed we liked it here just as much if not more. Great selection all around, very friendly staff. Very glad the billboards pulled us in - it's a bit off the beaten path behind the big box stores, so you're unlikely to find it unless you're looking for it. But it's well worth the trip!

But I haven't been in there for a year or so and I went in there today to trade in a guitar for another. Which they say they do. So my guitar is brand new 1200 dollars and on reverb used the guitar is going anywhere from 600 to 1000 used. The guitar I wanted was 679. The guy told me they wouldn't even be able to get close to 600 for my guitar so they wouldn't do it. They are no better than a pawn shop. Give you the lowest possible price they can then sell it for the highest possible price. Sucks because I like buying from a local shop. I will be making sure none of my family or friends or anyone that talks to me about guitars will ever go there. There's a way to do business and a way to do dirty business and they got dirt all over them. Also not the first time they've screwed me over. They said their company Diamond Guitars had a guitar that was made to be the signature guitar for one of the ffdp guitarists but it was never produced and they just had a couple sample guitar bodies. So I bought one. Turns out it was a lie. Now when I talk about it they just say its a part guitar. Even though when I bought it there was as they said only 5 ever made. I should have known but I was naive to the guitar world.

They took my young daughter, who had NO experience playing guitar or recording songs and they helped launch her musical career. Along the way they were VERY helpful and patient with all of our questions. When we told Chris that she was ceasing her sessions with him (to pursue music in Nashville), he was actually happy! Not happy that he was losing a customer, but happy because she was moving up in her progress. Their passion is music and people! They are the BEST at what they do and I would recommend them to anyone.

That changed by how I was treated in the store. I was trying to be friendly to the young man but he cut me off abruptly and asked me what I needed. I told him I was looking for a tuner but based on how he treated me I was ready to walk out the door. He showed no kindness towards me as he showed me the limited supply of tuners. They were all reasonably priced but I just could not spend my money in a store in which I felt as was not welcome. I'm going to check my reviews and see if I can find the place I really wanted to go to. If you live in Troy and don't mind unfriendly employees you might like this place. They do have a reasonable amount of stringed instruments at reasonable prices from what I saw. But I can't and won't spend my money where I'm not appreciated. I got the guitar back after a $70 set up and it's not breaking strings but it won't stay in tune (has an original factory Floyd, not the lower end model trems) and the high E sounds dull when played open. They took out a spring (not sure why) and i am just disappointed in the work. Considering taking it back, but afraid they will do more damage.

Mehas has been in this building since 1976. It is iconic. I've see shops in the area that have…read morepostcards or photos of the store with its sign for sale. I remember going here when I was very small so my sister could have music lessons. It looks just the same. Mehas really does everything. They have a music school. They rent instruments for school kids. They do service and repair. They have Jam Camps. And they don't chase you down as soon as you enter like a lot of guitar stores. Yikes. I think they also order some things for customers. You'll have to ask details on that. I have no specifics. The building is in Historic Downtown Hamilton. The building originally housed a Fitton and Brother store. The lower level was a saloon in the late nineteenth century.

They're passionate about their subject, and they are able to teach a wide range of ages. Both my kids (3 and 7 years old) go here, and my neighbor who is probably 50 takes piano lessons here too, so that's great. The not-so-good: This place is like, run by nobody? There's no reception, just an empty desk. There's nobody to email when there are billing problems, or scheduling problems. They have an online, automated system, which is great, but sometimes you'll inexplicably end up with a class scheduled for a time that's not your normal time, and not convenient. Like - what gives? This would be a 5-star place if they had someone actually managing it.
