Popular place!!! I've been here several times. Jamón Iberico is the best that's the sandwich I get. Saturday it was packed at 5:30. The sandwiches are good and quick. The locals hang out and drink beer and eat ham. I guess you would call that hamming it up. It's all about the ham and the ham is damn good. It can get load and hard to find a place to stand or sit. Usually this frenetic vibe throws me off, here I like it. Do when you walk by and see all that ham hanging out come on in and join the ham crew. You won't regret it. Museo del Jamón feels like a must do when in Madrid ~ I mean it's the museum of ham! How can you not do it!? You'll see tons of meat hanging with a bunch of fun options, with seven locations currently throughout the city, but I honestly wouldn't go again. I would say service left something to be desired. They seemed a bit annoyed with us and not wanting to assist but whatever, the food was decent. I do think the unfriendliness of the staff though made the vibes a bit off here for my friend and I. We got a good deal of ham and drinks at about 6 Euros for the deal. But I swear, the standing at the counter with unfriendliness made this passable - but I wouldn't go back. They say they have the biggest selection of ham in town so that is a positive. Museo del Jamon is not just a restaurant but also a shop, so you can buy meats and fun things to go. This is a chain store, but they are well organized and clean and I like it! I really enjoyed getting jamon here. So many varieties to choose from and one of the staff spoke English so he helped us with some recommendations of different price range jamon to try and compare. It was okay. Location amid the hustle and bustle of the city. Really cool to see all the different types of jamon and how they're all displayed. The ambiance is what drew us in. We decided to sit down (plenty of spots open) and order some tapas and of course jamon. The jamon was very good as was the baguette we got to accompany it. Patatas bravas were not crispy at all, calamari was a tad rubbery, the Spanish tortilla was tasty as were the jamon croquettes. This place was a franchise, and you would see a few of them as you would walk the city. Each one was a little different. It's so fun to see the meat hanging and in abundance. Absolutely awful service! We have been staying in Madrid for almost one week and this is the only restaurant where the service was anything but excellent. Seemed annoyed to offer their menus in English and, once they had, were not forthcoming with any explanations regarding the menu options. I wanted to order an iberico sandwich and eat in the bustling downstairs deli section, which looked like a good time. Instead the server led me upstairs to a very quiet section with tables. The menu she gave me did not include the sandwiches so I had to ask for the whole menu. Not only did she get my order wrong, but when I was ordering (in Spanish) I said one wrong word and she started yelling at me the right word and didn't let me proceed until I acknowledged it. I haven't used Spanish since high school, I re-taught myself Spanish for this trip and this was uncalled for, rude and discouraging. Furthermore, the sandwich was extremely disappointing. 95% bread, 2 slices of ham, and 2 slices of cheese. The bread was stale and overpowered the whole sandwich. There was no sauce or olive oil and the sandwich was incredibly dry. The whole experience was a huge bummer for the night. read more

Looking from the street this looked like a great place to get a quick beer and some tapas with some fresh Jamon. Once inside it was truly busy but I don't mind waiting for a little spot at the bar. After waiting a while we step up to the bar top and order two beers. The bartender comes back with the beer and a little plate of chips. I ask for one of the different tapas and he gets upset and says you can only have one, I said ok then I would like something else from the case. He then gives me a menu by throwing it down on the counter. RUDE!! Then comes back and I ask for a plate of sliced chorizo but he ignores me and walks away. Finally we just want to leave so I ask for the check. He throws it on the countertop and I place my euros. Never comes back to give change and ignores us. Finally because it's costum to put the bill on a plate with the cash I use my dirty chip plate and another employee picks it up with disguste and makes some comments and replaces the plate with a clean one. I would have put my money on a clean plate if they gave it. Finally we get our change and head out but not before one of them makes another rude comment because we are american. Don't recommend this place, much better service, ambiance and food any where else around. Go ahead and call yourself a museum because looking is all you get from this place read more

I'll be honest - Museo del Jamon was one of my absolute favorite places in Madrid. It's kind of weird, always packed, always loud and a little divey. Now, you might be thinking - what kind of a museum can be thus described? Museo del Jamon in fact is not a museum at all but a deli/restaurant/cheap eats kind of place. It's bright, it's packed with every kind of person and you really shouldn't miss checking it out. Why? It is so CHEAP!! I'm serious - 3 "double beers" and a ham bocadillo was €3.90. I mean, it wasn't a great ham sandwich but it was decently sized and only €1! Standard sized beers are €.50!!!! I liked it so much that we stopped twice. The second time we just ordered drinks (2 double beers, 2 wines = less than €5!!) and received a good sized dish of miscellaneous pig scraps to snack on. I have no idea what was in there other than tongue, but it was tasty! Service doesn't fuck around - they aren't friendly but they'll get your drink and free meat scraps to you quickly. Since our hostel didn't offer free breakfast, we had been either eating out or making our own from groceries bought at a local market. Enter the Museo del Jamón (ham museum) which is a local chain restaurant and deli. The locals frequent it as much as the tourists do. My cousin and I opted for the salami sandwiches which were the perfect small portion for breakfast. The coffee is brewed fresh and strong. I didn't dare ask for decaf. Do Europeans even drink decaf? Heck, I was on vacation. A little caffeine wasn't going to hurt me. They offer croissant sandwiches as well. They actually have posters hanging up with photos of all their sandwiches. I came in here after reviewing some of the yelp reviews on where to get the best jamon. Jamon is a very picky topic since jamon is so good and you can almost get it anywhere but what's important is where is the best. I went to check out the prado museum so since I was in walking distance to museo del jamon i decided to check it out. You can see a lot of locals there which is always a good sign but they had a lot of different jamon hanging and jamon bellota which is one of the best (expensive) jamon around. It is pigs who are fed with acorns so it has almost a nutty taste and melts in your mouth. While I was waiting I ordered a cheap jamon (cheaper one but good) and cheese sandwich on a crispy french bread. When I got to the counter I was able to know enough words to order a few slices of jamon bellota. Omg, so worth it and unlike anything else, it's really hard to eat any other jamon after that without comparing. This is more of quick eats place since the seating is very limited but everything comes out fast. read more

This restaurant is a chain but don't be turned off. Their meat is seriously good and the prices for their sandwich and beer are like Spanish fast food joint! Be warned that some of the stores do not have seating and some of them do. Most people stand around, social, drink and eat the popular bocadillos. It is a very lively and fun feasting experience. The sheep cheese/ queso is good too and it goes really well with the meat and bread. We went there twice. Once we did the quick eats downstairs. The second time we decided to dine upstairs for dinner. We ordered beer and a mix meat platter with cheese. We also saw a lot of soup orders so it must be a favorite. They have paella as well. We didn't try them though. However, I probably would not recommend ordering seafood there. Our octopus plate, which was about EUR18 was soggy and gross. It looked better than it tasted good especially since the Spanish are known for their octopus. Try it if you are in Madrid. read more

The 3 stars are for the food...how can you make a mistake here, when everything is pretty good? If you're a tourist, you will think this place is amazing...if you're Spanish, you know this place is the McDonalds of stereotypical Spanish food in Madrid. They have food offers (1 beer and 1 sandwich for 2 euros), and then you have the upstairs (restaurant); we sat upstairs, which filled up quickly. If you order a plato combinado, it comes with consome (broth). My plate had 2 slices of jamon serrano, 2 fried eggs, and croquetas with fries. My friend had a cheese and tomato sandwich. One star off is because our server had the flu and kept sneezing, but wouldn't go home...the other waiters made fun of him, but allowed him to keep serving like that. Not okay, and very gross. Another star off is because we barely got any service. I noticed that all the waiters served the rest of the tables, because we were the only table that had 2 young women...all the other tables had older couples. I guess our money wasn't as appraised because we are in our mid-20s. At one point, our sick waiter asked if we were ready to order, and I told him that after getting no service for 15 minutes, we were more than ready to. After that, he checked on us more often. It's actually market specializing in the sales of ham with an area offering various ham based sandwiches. For purchase of hams or slices to take out, it's not bad, but remember it is illegal to bring them back into the United States no matter how they may package them, no matter how they are prepared and regardless of what the clerks may tell you. If US Customs finds them, you'll lose them. The selection of hams is very good but what they serve and how they prepare your sandwiches here and the basic service isn't very good. The Museum of Ham! That's what the name of this chain means but this museum doesn't have one painting. The works of art you'll find are all sorts of dishes with Jamón Ibérico (Iberian ham), the cured meat that's found all over town and Spain, for that matter. My Spanish daughter-in-law said that this was a place we had to go to while in Madrid. I thought it was a museum about ham before looking online, lol. It was quite an experience, much better than going to a museum... I don't care for American ham but this was divine. The first time we came was to get a beer and that is where I discovered my favorite way to drink Spanish beer, caña con limón! It is a small beer with half sparkling lemonaid (I ask for just a little limon so it is more 3/4 beer to 1/4 limon.) Refreshing when Tinto is too heavy for the heat of the day. We also discovered that pinchos are served at most restaurants when you order a drink. This was a fun part of our experience eating and drinking our way through Spain. Jamon hung from the ceiling everywhere. The prices vary and get very expensive. Iberico was our favorite. The black Iberian pig lives primarily in western and southwestern Spain. The pigs roam in pasture and oak groves feeding on grass, herbs, acorns, and roots, until the slaughtering time approaches. At that point, the diet is limited to olives or acorns for the best quality jamón ibérico, or a mix of acorns and commercial feed for lesser qualities. The hams are salted and dried for two weeks, then they are rinsed and dry for another four to six weeks. The curing process then takes at least twelve months, although some cure their jamones ibéricos for up to 48 months. You cannot take jamon out of the country though they sell sealed packs to travel. I was told many people line their suitcases with it. I can see why :-) My daughter-in-law had a great nose for finding the best places for tapa and good drinks. This review are for those who does not speak a single word of Spanish and do not drink. Like many others have reviewed before me, I was attracted to the prices of 1eur sandwich. But getting my hands on it was quite the effort. You walk in, there are menus plastered everywhere with pictures. If you don't speak the language, that's tremendously helpful. I suggest taking a picture to help with ordering. Next, trying to walk up to the bar when there are 2 layers of people in front of you. Trying to signal the waiter is just impossible when they purposefully look away from you. It also sucks that while I am trying to get their focus, they took a few more rounds of order from people in front of me. I resorted to waving a 10eur bill to catch their attention. When I did get their attention, had to tell them what I wanted. I pointed to the pictures on my phone for reference. The sandwiches came pretty quickly after. It is just slapping 4 to 5 slices of meat on bread that has been sliced open. There's no spread or cheese or anything else on the bread. After I got my 2 sandwiches, I waved my 10 EUR again to pay. And to my surprise. I did not get back 8 EUR. I got back 7.60 EUR. I guess there was a fine print that to get 1eur sandwich, you have to order a drink??!! That 1eur is really 1.20eur. For the price and the Spanish ordering food (and standing up eating) experience, it's not bad for 1.20eur. However, I note that this sandwich takes very little effort to make. I found it much easier to visit a Carrefour express and buy a 0.45 EUR bocadillo + 1eur pack of chorizo (or some other type of ham of your choosing) and you'd have a lot more meat left over to snack on. Additionally, it will take much less time than trying to catch the waiter's attention. read more

So what does one expect when their broken Spanish leads them into the museum of ham? well, the crippling disappointment was quickly quelled when we realized that we could get a cold beer for around a euro fifty. And wait, what is this you say, the delicious tapas you're giving me comes free with my drink? Game on. There is a reason that this place is full of what I assume were locals. I mean, was it like 11am on a Wednesday? Yes, but this is Spain, and if people want to spend their time drinking beer and eating ham on a weekday morning, who am I to judge them? No, if you stumble upon local boozing, the proper thing to do is join in and see what the fuss is all about. Surprise, the folks were here for ham (again, this was Madrid, so no shock there either). The options were plentiful, but I have to say, we didn't order a single thing besides beer, and with each new one, a new style of ham was presented to us to try. We had a few rounds, watched as the barmaid swept up mountains of tapas plates from the floor (I guess you can throw your stuff on the ground in Madrid when you're done, because you know, Spain), and generally loved the fact that we were in a ham museum getting buzzed while the sun was out. Wife and I finally came in (with our daughter) to understand what it was that was going on. Oh man oh man. Charcuterie that's not so snooty + cheap beer = Awesome vibe. I totally recommend sticking to the iberico ham and getting the 0.5L beer for 1.5€. Wife, baby, and I ate our fill of a combo plate with 4 beers and tip for less than 20€. Food is excellent, prices are very good, just spend some time working on the servers' manners. This is not a museum, of course, it's a cafe / sandwich shop / specialty store. But the abundance of legs of jamon, hanging off the ceiling, lining the walls, overflowing from meat cases, makes this feel like a museum. There are many of these shops around Madrid -- we popped into one off Puerta Del Sol, which happened to be one of the larger stores: they sell any and all varieties of jamon, at various price points; they sell cheeses, sweets, beer. This is a perfect place to pop in for a light snack and a cold beverage. NOTE: this location is standing room only -- but the benefit is you can eat more! LOL read more
