We were referred by our daughter, who had frequented the store. We walked into this Batavia Music store not knowing anything about violins beside the basic stuff, and left with a wealth of knowledge. Tom (owner) is very pleasant; we enjoyed doing business with him. We were quite surprised that he bought an old violin from us, before we settled on anything he had in his inventory. He helped us make the right decision quality and price. It was a joy to be in the presence of so many beautiful instruments and an owner who really cares about his work. We will be back for lessons and care of a couple of other instruments.

Brittany teaches Suzuki harp and piano and has been a musician since she was a child. She is an effective and empathetic teacher and knows how to motivate the different personalities of the harpists she teaches. She is kind and has a great balance of keeping the kids feeling engaged, but also staying firm with them to keep their form strong. She typically hosts 2 recitals a year and it's great to hear her students playing together. We have been pleased with our daughter's experience and how she has just loved playing the harp and growing in her music theory and playing skills. If you're not familiar with Suzuki method, essentially a parent comes along for the lessons and leans alongside the student, so that at home the parent can be involved and part of the practicing. It's been great to learn new pieces with my daughter, though at this point I am unable to keep up. My talent peaked at Twinkle, Twinkle. The studio itself is a calm and open space with several full-size harps and a beginner one without pedals. It's a relaxing space and perfect for instruction. If you or someone you love is interested in the harp, you should give Brittany a call. She can make recommendations about renting and buying harps and all the equipment needed to keep your harpist at the top of their craft. The cost of the lessons is reasonable and Brittany works hard to find a schedule that meets your needs.

We always went back for the friendly, knowledgeable staff and unique inventory. Much to my dismay, my parents were tired of my beautiful piano sitting in their front room untouched (unfortunately I don't have room for it in my condo) and wanted to sell it. We stopped by Pickle one afternoon to ask them what they estimated the resale value of the piano to be. Them: "Well, we would have to send out one of our appraisers." Me: "Can you at least give us a range? You have the record of the purchase date and model number, and I would classify the piano as being in perfect condition." Them: "We cannot say anything without a proper appraisal." The cost of this appraisal would be $500+. So, the fact that we dropped $15k on a piano and have never once asked you for anything means nothing? I still adore my piano (and have since convinced my parents not to sell it) but after all these years, Pickle has left a sour taste in this girl's mouth.

I mentioned adding a small weight in the control cavity to balance neck dive, and he dismissed it with, "no, don't do that, that's where the electronics are." The action was high at the nut and overall. After his "setup," it came back basically unchanged -- and now the A and D strings bottomed out at the high frets. I told him the nut needed filing; he insisted nut height doesn't affect action until I proved it. He took it back, filed the low E only, and handed it back. I had to point out again that the A and D were unplayable and send it back a second time. Even then, nothing was really fixed. End result: I lost $130, my bass plays worse than before, and I'll still have to do the setup myself.
