The menu itself is the intersection of British and American cuisines -- you have the rarebit and the pot pies, but also the steaks and lobster rolls. The cocktail list had primarily American-style cocktails, very similar to the speakeasy reemergence we've been seeing back in San Francisco. They were decent, but very expensive comparing to what I'm used to (think the same number as a drink at a good lounge in SF, only in GBP not USD). I got the lamb chops with mint jelly -- very tender and delicious. I also saw that they have "black cabbage" on the menu, and decided to order it out of curiosity. But it was just kale...silly me. The service was just ok...and the prices were pretty high. The food was actually really good, but with the number of decent restaurants around here, it might be a hard sell.

Our server quickly greeted us and brought us waters. When the rest of our party arrived we were offered drinks and we ordered a round of espresso martinis with tequila instead of vodka. They were very well made and super delicious. The did offer a set menu with two or three course options but we ordered off the standard menu. Food was served quickly and was well prepared. Everyone enjoyed their selection. This is a great place for a business lunch or would be a nice little date spot.

The Gilbert Scott is modelled after an old rail station, so lots of arched ceilings and a vintage feel. Choose to sit in the bar area for pre-drinks, or the main dining hall for the whole shabang. You can also rent out private dining rooms if you're looking to host an event or do a chef's table. I would advise placing a reservation ahead of time for sure. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, so feel free to ask them any questions you may have. Our meal started with complimentary cocktails - some sort of fizz drink. We ordered mezcal cocktails to follow which were decent, but I think the bartender needs to work more on bringing out the mezcal smokiness rather than treat the spirit like a gin or vodka. For starters, we ordered the pigs head and terrine. Absolutely lovedddd the pigs head, but the terrine lacked serious flavour and the texture was almost rough. For our mains, we ordered the lamp rump and steak. The lamb was pretty decent but overall not the most creative dish. The steak was chewy, however tasted fine. For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding, which was very yummy and not too heavy. I enjoyed the Gilbert Scott overall, but I'd like to see some elevated elements in terms of dish flavour. I'd advise coming here for a date night, Sunday roast, or evening with friends. No children recommended.

What a beauty! Once…read morethrough the superman style revolving doors, I was transported into a time where women were ladies and men were gents. Shortly after seating us, our coats were taken, given the drinks menu and one of my favourite snacks was placed in front of us - popcorn! However, this was no ordinary treat, it tasted like bacon! I kid you not, it was delectable, and at a guess I reckon that the kernels were popped in bacon fat. That may sound gross but I don't give two hoots, two of my favorite things pig and corn! It was splendid and I'd suggest tasting it at least once, is a must. It's hard to fit the bar into a single time period but something about the geometric iron structure that the bar was housed in, brought to mind the Jekyll & Hyde thriller, with perhaps also a dash of Sherlock too. I went for the 'Queen Mother' cocktail which included gin, rhubarb and champagne - more of the things I love, in one glass. Happy days! To finish I'd like to add this short description from the official website, not only the perfect ending to this review, but Gilbert Scott would be the perfect ending to any day... 'Through the revolving door (originally one of the first in the UK) our Bar at The Gilbert Scott occupies the former entrance to the Midland Grand Hotel. With ornately painted ceilings and wondrous bell chandeliers you are instantly swept up in the grandeur of the space. Exuding elements of sophistication and wonder, the Bar sets the scene for an afternoon of enjoyment or an evening sampling the cocktail or champagne lists.'

This place which was recommended by someone is part of Kings Cross train station. Btw, the station was pretty great. Food and shopping one place after the other... Anyways, I was told it was an old booking office. And I think it's also a hotel. We entered from the side of the station on the second floor. First impressions, wow. It gives off that old Hollywood vibes. Massive restaurant bar with dark mood lighting. We didn't have a reservation as we just wanted a night cap before taking the train back to the property. Got seated at one of the hi top tables just along the bar area. And for a Thursday evening, it was busy. Our waiter was great, didn't get his name though. Menu wise for drink was big. They pretty much have everything. We ended up just getting a bottle to split between everyone. The space is great for a gathering with friends or a night out. Nice plush seating, amazing high ceiling and the bar is massive. The opposite side is where the hotel check in is located which also has a really nice lobby. Which i believe is also a bar area. Spaces like these are hidden spot throughout London. It would be a place that I would totally visit again.

Granted, it became easy to become the go-to when we were already staying at the St. Pancras Renaissance that the bar is a part. That and the design and history of the Booking Office bar is so cool, as well as the bartenders who make excellent cocktails -- and know how to make an extra dirty martini. As just stated above, the Booking Office 1869 is located at the St. Pancras Renaissance in King's Cross, London. The now-bar and restaurant first started as the St. Pancras International train station's original ticket hall in the 19th century. And that feel carries on when you visit the bar with the original ticket booths behind the bar counters. The food menu is very good from what I ordered and the cocktails are class. The one night I ordered food, I enjoyed their buttermilk fried chicken that was grand with the sriracha and lime yoghurt. That was wicked tasty. It was just as tasty when I had the leftover cold a couple of days later. The way I gauge a bar ultimately is how they follow the drink orders to an extra dirty gin martini. I am happy to say that the bartender hit that drink out of the park; over and over again. It was class and crisp and full of happiness. I did enjoy from their cocktail menu the Patience that was gin-based and made with Green Chartreuse, olive oil, and lemon perfume that made me feel pretty and strong; strong and pretty. We also had the opportunity to enjoy a cocktail called the Last Word as they were shutting down for the evening our second night there. I had never had it but it was quite the complex herbal cocktail similar to the Patience. It with maraschino liqueur as well that was quite groovy. The Booking Office was one of my favorite bars to frequent in London so far. And it was within the walls of the hotel I was staying! Double plus!

The space itself is beautiful decorated - some trendy wall paper paired with warm wood tones. Its inviting, cozy, has a very pretty bar. We were seated in the main dining room where the manager explained to us that the Brigade is a social enterprise. Meaning, they help to employ and educate members of the homeless community in London so that they can lift themselves out of poverty and enter into the food/bev industry. Great food with a great cause, SIGN ME UP! On to the food - it was VERY good. We ordered two local beers. I loved mine, it was a mead style that wasn't too sweet, but perfect to wash down all the noms. We started with sourdough bread. This was perfectly toasted and paired with butter topped with crystalized salt. YUM. We also had roasted bone marrow and the cornish rump of beef. The bone marrow was good but it was the beef that really blew me away. Brigade uses local London ingredients and this beef was no exception. It was perfectly cooked to rare and I enjoyed every bite. We also got a side of chips, because carbs are life. These chips were SO GOOD. Admittedly, we came to Brigade because we saw a photo on Yelp with fish and chips, which they no longer serve. So happy we ended up here to explore the menu, as a meal filled with carbs and beef is always on my favorites list, and it was no different here. Service was super friendly, and we ended up getting a discount on the bill because they had a promotion going on in November. Double win!

As you enter you see the grand courtyard and palms greeting you and transporting you to a new place in time and location. You feel like you have travelled to a new country and ready to start your holiday and culinary journey awaits. A great feel and the open area is even more impressive if you walk up the staircase and view from the mezzanine level with the live pianist and comfortable seating area. As you enter the winter garden you are immediately greeted and we were seated not to long after even though we were early. Menus provided and explained in detail but luckily i also enquired before hand about vegetarian options so was aware this was an option. However when the menu was explained we were again asked about any dietary requirements and given options of no meat, no gelatine and no alcohol but i have a feeling that many other options available and very impressed by this. You are first served with your selection of tea and you can order other drinks if you wish you just maybe charged. Anytime you wish your tea is served to you and refreshed as you need. Staff always attentive and you are never kept waiting too long. Always smiling and friendly. Soon after the sandwich selection arrives without the crust and each one is explained. If you finish your selection more are immediately offered and served up. All great tasting with fresh ingredients and not overpowering, cucumber sandwich was fresh and especially also liked the pepper and cream cheese. After you have completed your sandwiches your scones are served followed by your dessert selection and again you are offered more scones should you wish and at every stage tea is topped up as needed. Scones again home made and fluffy and you get to select two jams (we had strawberry and apricot) and you also get clotted cream but ample servings provided. I am not a scone person but still loved them. Lets see if you get space for dessert but amazing little selection provided and such great flavour and each looks like it was meticulously made. Hence it is worth ordering one of each of the afternoon teas as you can then get to taste the various desserts and yes you can take away any you don't finish in a nice handy take away box which also has some style to it. You won't go away hungry. Booking Process: Booked via email and after chasing once the process was easy and responses forthcoming. You do have to provide your credit card details for booking to be confirmed and there is a cancellation charge. Location: 222 Marylebone Road, London NW1 6JQ Decor & Lighting: Very large and bright courtyard given you are sitting in the glass atrium so flooded with natural light. Ambience & Acoustics: You have a live pianist playing but it is very much background music and you can hear any conversation with ease and given the expansive area they have done extremely well with the acoustics. We had the following: Drinks: Winter Garden Blend (Tea), English Breakfast (Tea) Food: Winter Garden Afternoon Tea (Vegetarian Version) Chocolate Afternoon Tea (Vegetarian Version) Sandwiches: Cucumber, Egg Mayonnaise, Buffalo mozzarella with pesto and tomato, mixed pepper with cream cheese. Scone: Apple and Raisin, Chocolate chip and fruit peel. Dessert: Pistachio and Raspberry Bakewell, Coconut and chocolate macaroon, Banana, pecan nut and milk chocolate cake, blood orange and white chocolate mousse, Pistachio and chocolate Opera gateau, to name just a few... Desert: See Above Bill / Cost: £165.00 for three inc service charge etc (£50-60 per head without the champagne option) Conclusion: A very pleasant afternoon, we arrived early and had to wait a short time but the hotel did take us earlier as soon as they could accommodate. Every effort made to meet your dietary requirements so i would recommend a visit as even if you don't like the menu it is worth asking for the other options as you will probably be pleasantly surprised. Even offered and provided a fruit platter for my mother who is diabetic. especially nice place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Rating: 8.0 out of 10.0
