This business has a long history in the Greater Boston area and I really appreciate the fact that it has always been a family-owned small business. I remember visiting the original location in downtown Boston when I could only dream of owning anything as luxurious as a fur. A few years later (1980's!) When I first discovered Murray's and met Irwin and Judy, I instantly knew I was going to be a repeat customer! I had a full length mink redesigned and put into storage with my vintage furs. Upon pick up in the winter, I fell in love with a navy mink car coat and, whatta ya know......it ended up under the Xmas tree. Next year, same story with a Mouton Lamb. This year, same story with a alpaca and fur poncho.......I spied the bag in my husband's car. Moral of the story, besides the fact that I have a very generous husband, Irwin is the kindest man and runs a wonderful family business. I have been a customer for over 5 years. I had a fur jacket that I inherited years ago that I only wore once and sat in my closet for years(improper storage). The first time I went to the shop, the conversation included an explanation of the importance of proper storage and care to keep my furs in tip top shape. One of the smartest investments I ever made was restyling my 20 year old mink coat. I had originally purchased a long mink from Kakas on Newbury Street Boston. I loved it for its warmth. However it was dated and hard to get in and out of a car. Through word of mouth I found Murray's. I discussed my options with Irwin, the 3rd generation owner, and we came up with a plan. Irwin has a pleasant manner and is a real craftsman and gentleman. Mostly I just trusted his excellent style advice and I'm glad I did!! For the last 3 winters I have enjoyed wearing a sporty restyled version of the original coat. It's chic, warm, easy to wear, and I've lost track of the many compliments. I have to tell you this is by far the best place to buy or restyle a fur, I'm 72 years young and been dealing the present owner Irwin and his father before him,you can't find better prices not deal with a better person than Irwin. My family has been going to Murray's since they were located on Washington Street in Boston. Irwin has always been extremely helpful to myself and my mother, even when she comes in with a fur that had not been stored in 30 plus years that needed extensive restoration ( family item...very rare fur)...he even called in someone special to work on the fur. We may not be the best about coming back to store items every year ( hey life happens). Is there anywhere I can do a review of Irwin as a human being and friend? This man was like a son to my Mom who passed away a month ago. Not only did he give her some beautifully crafted pieces for Christmas over the years, he took care of Mom, watched over her, cleared the snow in front of her house and sent her the most amazing poinsettia arrangements over the years - and that is just scratching the surface. I went to Murray's furs 8 years ago on the recommendation of an old friend from Dover. My mother, first generation Russian immigrant, who had chess come to live with us after the passing of my father, became fast friends with Irwin on our first visit. I bought 3 fur coats at Murray's Furs in the 1980"s. I had a coyote cut down to a jacket and made earmuffs. I have given all but my full length 6 ft vent natural dark brown milk and its matching beret.This coat is in Florida with me and I war it when traveling north . It is in wonderful condition.
