I called Gabriel Imported Foods and they said the husband in the couple that owned this business at Eastern Market passed away and the business closed after that. I wish I could have tried the stuffed grape leaves and other delectables...they sounded glorious. I am sad for how this business came to close- it seems as if it brought tasty joy to many lives. I hope the family is doing well now.

Forever grateful to Busch's Market on Six Mile. Our friend and colleague's funeral was held on…read more3/21/26 across the street. As a DPW supervisor, he was honored by a procession of big Public Works trucks from around the state. The manager of Busch's immediately agreed to let the trucks (45-50 of them) line up for hours in his parking lot. No hesitation, just "of course, let us know if there's anything we can do". I'm sure it was inconvenient, but that was a generous and classy gesture.

The store is wide-open and reasonably clean. The biggest demerit is that some of the employees are inconsiderate or even come off as rude. I sometimes shop towards the end of the day, and there often seems to be a floor cleaner machine following me around, nipping at my heels. Worse than that, many of the cashiers act like their pants are on fire, racing to scan food items and ungently dropping or practically throwing them into the shopping cart in a haphazard manner. That does bug me, and they have torn a bag of flour and damaged some of my food items before, such as fruit and bread. I took one star off for that.

I like to get cookies, chocolates, instant coffee, soaps and candles. Sometimes, I'm out of luck if the item is seasonal. I notice that the setup for all Trader Joe's are similar and they carry the same products. What's different is that every store has a different mascot. The one at this location is a monkey named Coco. If you tell the cashier that you found the mascot they will give you a lollipop. Some checkouts give out lollipops anyway.

They have a large variety of frozen meats and a small fridge of fresh meats. I didn't venture too deep, but they have many organ meats as well. I would suggest to the owners to keep their politics out of the store. I like the store otherwise, they have products I cannot find anywhere else. I pay a lot of money to get healthy foods there but am considering going somewhere else because of the politics.
