In my opinion if you want a party sub for an occasion get it from The Picnic Basket. I got one and my Birthday party crowd was very pleased with it. I got the Italian and the meats were very good. What I thought was a great addition was a full Red onion sliced up, a full tomato sliced up, Yellow peppers, mayo and Italian dressing all in pint containers. Still an amazing store with so many delicious items. I stopped in here when picking something else up in the area. It has been almost a year since I was here last and it is still amazing. I picked up many items on my visit from the beloved pizza slices to some dinner items and to my surprise, I even grabbed a spiral sliced Dearborn ham for Christmas. I picked up some salmon, stuffed pork chops for dinner but had a hard time choosing everything looks so good. There is so much to choose from even with dietary and allergy restrictions. Their grab and go individual portions have so much variety. What started out as a quick stop turned into a larger shopping trip. I have never been disappointed by anything here before so I'm completely sure nothing will go to waste. I'm not sure if the deli or meat section looks more appetizing but the variety is huge. My family is fans of the pizza, pepperoni sticks and ham and cheese sticks. Also impressive is the beverage section both alcoholic and non alcoholic. There are multiple rows of wine, a whole wall of liquor and spirits and a huge refrigerated section of many types of pop and carbonated beverages. I mentioned last year about a brand of hard cider I really liked common more on the West side of the state called Ciderboys and found that there also today. The store is very clean and organized and even when there is a lot of people there, it moves quickly getting service and checking out. I really like the Picnic Basket. It took some getting used to the new, bigger and expanded store. I have been shopping at the Picnic basket since the early years and I liked the old feel, the heart of the old place. While loving the old place, it was inevitable that they had to renew, upgrade, improve and expand. They did all that, but for a while, it didn't seem like it had the "heart" of the old place. This is improving as I think they are embracing their new selves. What seemed to have been lacking was the personalized service, but this is coming to life again. The service is better. It is especially good in the fresh meats area, the people that work there are very patient and they do have quality meats. The prepared food section is much more extensive. A standout are the fantastic breaded chicken strips. They are so tasty even after sitting in the case. One of our very favorite items are the pepperoni sticks!! House made, simple deliciousness. They are better during the day when some of the familiar staff from the original place are working. They just have the touch. Still, the place to stop for huge varieties of libations and liquor. They have some good soup, pre-made sandwiches, tons of baked goods and lots of specialty items. I am a huge fan of this place and it is improved! read more

The prices are a little higher than the big chains, but you're supporting a local business. The liquor prices are good though, if that's what you're going for. They have fresh produce, a nice deli in the back, a very large beer selection that includes a lot of local craft breweries, cigars, e-cigarettes, and they have a ready-made and hot food selection that is great! The store is large with a wide variety alcohol, produce, deli meats and much more! I mainly come for the pizza sticks but if I lived nearby Id probably be here every week for other goods. read more

They have a great beer selection. However, most of their beers are old, (well over three months). Unless you like skunky beer.., better check the born on date or drink by date! I must have told their staff at least three times about the dated beer... apparently not important enough to do something about it. The rest of the store is outstanding! read more

Don't stop in often but when I do I am never disappointed. Stopped in last week to pick up some hard ice popsicles and walked out with plenty more. I first passed their homemade pizza rolls so I figured what the heck I will try a couple with my coworkers, well they were delicious. Ended up grabbing some dips/spreads for the weekend, one was hummus and the other was a sun dried tomato feta spread , they were both amazing. What is not to like about the Picnic Basket? -It has a really good selection of meats, beer, wine, booze, dairy and deli items. -It has the best chili around. -I am enamored with the Italian stix. -The workers are friendly and helpful. -The take home and bake pizza and the salads have helped me feed a bunch of people for not that much $$$ on several occasions. You take all of this and add it up--and you get why the Picnic Basket edges out the Good Time Party Store in Northville to win my personal award for best party store ever. And then you take what I encountered the other day... Massive, gravy slathered Salisbury Steaks that came with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans made with Bacon...all for an insanely low lunchtime price... ...and you get why I think the Picnic Basket is better than just good--it is GREAT. Went back to the Picnic Basket last Friday night to get a few things. They only had Italian sticks so I got three ($7.00). I also bought some pasta salad and I had sticker shock, $7.99 per pound! It was ok, not great, and not "$7.99/# good" -OMG- $7.99/# for pasta with a few olives, pepper rings, and dressing! The Italian sticks were just ok, at least they weren't burnt this time but they were really chintzy with the fillings. A few scattered bits of sausage and one clump of pepper rings at one end. Like the last time I bought them, only the center half had anything in it. Come on Al, you guys can do better than that, especially with the prices always going up. You can't raise the price and decrease the quality, that's a recipe for long term failure. So what's up with the bread, there are no dates on the packages that I could see. I bought some Kings Hawaiian rolls, all but the center two were dried out - hardy worth $4.09 for a pack of 12 rolls. Again no date on the package. Same thing for the half loaf of marble rye; it was pretty dry too. High prices for the convenience does not replace the need for quality. I want you to succeed but I'm not going to do it by buying poor quality food. One last thing, there were five or six people in line with one cashier working while two others seemed to be walking back and forth talking and NOT taking the customers money... read more

I've tried their fresh meats too many times and have been disappointed every time. Their boneless, skinless chicken pieces are so shot up with water, you need to pour it off before adding the sautéed chicken to any sauce recipe or it WILL cause a diluted mess. But that's not the worst of it. The pieces of gristle and inedible fat and strings of SOMETHING are completely unacceptable for something for which they're charging big prices. After my husband bringing home this subpar meat once again, and after disappointing me in meal preparation once again, I've made a firm decision of NEVER AGAIN. I want to give this a 1-2-3-4-5 Like the pre-made options. None of my bad experiences have been with the product. The meat guys are great..love the pre-made options of pizza and the specials of the day. Waited over 4 minutes to get service in the deli with nobody else there while one girl was texting..the other were arguing about who was going to wait on me..I finally just walked away. Almost every time I am in there the younger employees are on there phones texting and screwing around. That never happens at Kroger or Buschs On SuperBowl Sunday I had to argue with another young lady at the liquor counter over the price of beer. Bud Light 8 pack of 16 oz were on sale for 8.99. I had a bunch of other stuff and she rang it up at 12.99...I said that is wrong and she said it was not with an attitude. I had to cancel my sale and go back and grab regular Bud 160z that was stickered 8.99 and showed her. Then she said smart assed..that is just for regular. I said..no it is for Bud and Bud Light..they are the same focking price! It was busy so on Super Sunday so every time I walked back I lost my place in line and was there over 20 minutes to pick up some beer and carry out food. Went in there at 9:35 one night and in the old days there would be still pizza or other hot odds and ends to pick up but now everything was cleaned up and put away by then. Ordered Two dozen wings and two extra large pizzas for the super bowl. the pizzas were great but the wings were very disappointing. We ordered a dozen seasoned wings and a dozen barbecue wings. None of the wings were cooked all the way, we had to cook them more ourselves to make them edible. When we open the barbecue wings container there was just water in the bottom no barbecue sauce on the wings. Won't order wings again! read more

NO MASKS REQUIRED ... OPTIONAL FOR EMPLOYEES DURING MICHIGAN'S COVID-19 PANDEMIC ... that is the message I got when I shopped at the Picnic Basket today. The owners have done a fantastic job in remodeling/reopening their store - beautiful with great food selection. But ... the store manager and employees display ZERO interest in the health welfare of their customers. At the deli, I ordered some sliced cheese. The attendant had a "sleeve mask" covering her neck and nose when I placed the order. As soon as she placed the cheese on the slicer, she took her mask off - while cutting a pound of cheese for me. I asked her to please wear her mask when handling food, and she said that her mask just slides off all the time - so she doesn't wear it. I suggested she buy a mask that doesn't slide off. The Picnic Basket sells some nice ones. Each time I've been at the fresh meat counter (3 - 4 times in the past month) the butcher, who constantly handles raw meat, wears no mask and has no mask that I could see. Further, a half dozen customers in the store today had no mask while I was in the store - no employees said a word to them. I spoke with the Picnic Basket Store manager about this while I was in the store. She smiled and said the butcher often forgets to wear a mask ... suggesting she knows that he never wears one. I suggested she consider consequences for employees with no mask during this deadly Covid-19 pandemic. She had little/nothing to say about the other items (above) other than she will speak with the employees. Culture starts with the owners & managers - the employees will do what they are told is important. My family started ordering Pizza from here about two years ago. At first the price and quality was outstanding. Then gradually the quality plummeted. The last 3 or 4 orders we've made, the XL pizzas had literally the amount of toppings you would see on a small from somewhere else. The XL pizza we got tonight was the last straw. Having not even a handful of toppings on it. If we wanted a cheese pizza we wouldn't have ordered multiple toppings for it. The ready now pizzas are the same way. Having maybe 5 pepperoni on the pizza. Sure, great prices. But if you are going to sell cheaply priced pizza, at least let people know they are getting skimped on toppings. Their Pepperoni Sticks here are the best! I would describe them as sort of a sub-like calzone without sauce inside. As time goes by, Al's team continues to add more and more items into the hot line. Some days they might have ribs, sloppy joes, ziti, you name it! The pizza here is also delicious and reasonably priced for a place which is not a chain. They carry many Michigan products (Faygo, Better Made, Guernsey Dairy) and have a large selection of meat and deli products. Our family comes up here often and always can rely on quality food and good service. If something ever doesn't taste up to par, we can mention it to them and they make the situation right! read more

This place really does have it all. Best local butcher/meat shop, it is our go-to place for steaks, pork chops and everything else a carnivore would want. That by itself would bring me here. But they also have a huge deli counter, lots of salads and prepared foods, pizza, ribs, cheese bread, beer, huge wine selection and last but not least our favorite Guernsey ice cream. This market is very convenient and has quick grab lunches and dinners. The prices are fair and you can usually run in and out fairly quickly. Since the market expanded the staff has not been too impressive but I think they are really trying to work on this. They have a little bit of everything including a coffee and dessert bar, pizza, deli, a great meat counter and lots of specialty beers and a huge wall of liquor options. Don't forget the cigar humidor! I would have rated this market a five but several issues with staff makes me take away one star as I have been disappointed a couple times. I just want to sandwich when I walked in the door of this deli . I read the menu on the wall behind the counter that list of the sandwiches that they made. And I ordered that we worker from the young girl behind the counter. She in a rude tone told me that I needed to go get that sandwich from the refrigerated bin behind where I was standing. I ask her if those sandwiches have been made today and she said yes abruptly. So I took her word for it and purchase the sandwich and off I go, The sandwich was in fact old , one piece of bread on one side the sandwich was soggy and on the other side it was dry and dried out.
