I tell people all the time that you find what you're looking for. If you're negative and seeking…read moreout flaws or ugliness, you'll find it. Conversely, if you look for the beauty and positivity-you guessed right-it will be there in front of you. That's how I feel about Salt Lake City. I was born here, but have spent plenty of time elsewhere, so I may only be slightly biased. We are fortunate to get all four seasons (some of them in the same day!) and have a diverse downtown area with a little something for everyone. Sure, we are on the conservative side and may not boast racial or religious diversity to the level of other big cities. But everyone is welcome and I've found that the people here are generally nice folks. If you're visiting from elsewhere, know that the city is set up on a grid system, with the Mormon temple as the center. This makes finding addresses relatively easy-until you get to areas that use street names instead of numbers. But GPS can overcome that. The city has some rich history based on the Mormon pioneers. Whether you are a member of that faith or not, it's interesting to hear the stories of how the city was founded and the people that established the first communities here. Spend some time at a few of the popular tourist spots and you'll learn all about it!

I had to move an inspection for one of my job sites and I had to pay one of my assistants overtime to cover for me. They called me the morning of the court date to tell me that they had a clerical error even in the guy's voicemail. He gave me the wrong time different from what was on my sheet and then they just tell me oops it's moved, even though I had to literally move mountains to make this time work. Not only is this costing me more money and delaying justice for me, but it has complicated the next few weeks for me a bunch considering I'm delivering three builds at the same time now because of today's missed final inspection that I had to reschedule. I don't know who is in charge of the prosecutors of Midvale but top to bottom they're costing me more money and delaying my justice further and they did it the morning of by leaving me a voicemail. More money down the drain. Thanks Midvale.

I mean, I'm not reviewing the *entire city* here, because I just don't have the energy tonight. So…read morelet's break this thing down and review the city building. Here's what you need to know about this edifice: It used to be that the Midvale City offices were on the corner of Midvale Main (700 W) and Midvale Center (7800 S.). People still drive there all the time and try to do city-stuff. Nope. This is the new building. And by new, I mean not old Art Deco. But new is a relative term, and this building is only semi-new. Inside you find three main building components--first, the courts. Enter from the south for courts. Never a good sign. I paid a speeding ticket here once (not mine) and the line was only so-so at moving. North side is the Midvale City offices. Public works and administration and all that. This is where you go to fill out applications for water service and all that fun stuff. I wish it was all doable online, but billing is at least doable online. They're nice folks, but remember it's a small town with a limited budget. Finally, on the west side is the City Council chambers. I've been here a few times for meetings. It's a nice enough chamber, and if you're here it usually means you're passionate enough to get off the couch, so they're pretty good to you. That's the basic lay of the land. Park on the east of the building. Stop across the street for some tacos. Make a day of it.

I don't believe you're as good as you say you are... you're going to have to Provo yourself to me…read more Provo is one of the nicer areas the valley where most of the people who live in Utah live. You have beautiful mountains on both sides and the Foothills are beginning just to the south of here - thus starts the wilderness of the Rockies. So Provo is a gateway both to wilderness and also to urban madness, Utah style (which isn't very mad and some might say isn't even very urban). It's a very ethnically homogeneous area, mostly caucasian and biblical AF, but it's also nice and well kept with some good stuff to check out when you're down here. I wish it was more liberal though, like Colorado. It's very not. SLC and Murray are in the "10 liberal cities of Utah" - Provo is nowhere near that list.

I visit him often and absolutely love it here! Not only is it home to my boy, but it's also home to one of my absolute favorite birding spots - the Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area. My last visit was the first time I came in autumn and couldn't believe all the fall colors!! Now I've been here in all seasons and they're all wonderful but I think winter might be my fave - the snow is beautiful! And they get migratory birds in from the Arctic Tundra! The population is around 25,000 and the city is as settled back in 1847. Back in 2011, it was even ranked 12th on Money magazine's "Best Places to Live" index!! They have a fun and popular amusement park called The Lagoon that everyone loves. And there's a huge center full of great restaurants and shops called Station Park that is super popular. Incredible people and gorgeous Utah scenery with tons of hiking trails and the hustle and bustle of SLC right next door - definitely one of my top 10 places to visit! Highly recommend!
