It's kind of weird that Murray has its own library, but it's awesome really cool place! The inside is gorgeous and fun, and there's a ton of family programming. You get lots of perks with your library card, including digital books on Libby and Hoopla. (And not just a few books, either--it seems like Murray always has the hottest new ebooks.) You do have to renew your card every three years, so be aware of that. I can't wait to spend more time here now that my kids are older! read more

I took my toddler there for a few hours and the kids section is really fun. They have a cool light wall and educational games as well as tons of great books and sections to read with your kiddos. It was also decorated well. Definitely a great place to spend a morning or afternoon with your kiddos. They also have quiet rooms if you are wanting to study. read more

This library closes at 7pm instead of 9pm like it says on Yelp. They haven't "claimed" it as a business and so it is a little confusing. Google will tell you 7pm and Yelp says 9pm, but go with google or call before going if it's out of the way. Gorgeous library with beautiful stained mural or glass piece I guess they are called, on the wall directly in the back when you walk in. They have book return outside but don't get the returns mixed up with the donations. That can be tricky. Think post office slots when you think of returning a borrowed / checked out book, and then if you have books to donate, there's a wide bin. ;) read more

I always love going into this Library because it is always very clean and well organized. The librarians are very nice and helpful and were great with helping me set up my library card when I didn't really know what I was doing. I love all the different activities they have for kids and adults although I have not been able to participate since I don't have kids it seems like a very great place to go for exactly that. I also love the online feature of being able to place holds on books and it will notify you whenever the books are ready to be picked up so you can pick them up all at once check out and it's super quick and efficient and you don't have to spend time in the library looking around if you're in a rush. I also love that you can pay fines online... Oops I forgot to return a book but it was easy to pay it and it was solved. The drop box is also a nice feature since I can't always make it in during hours. Definitely recommend this library if going downtown seems to be too much sometimes. read more

I'm very pleased with the services of the Murray Library. For being independent from SL County libraries, this library boasts an impressive collection of books and online resources. I especially love the access to Hoopla and Overdrive, which have allowed me to access reading and video content on my phone during COVID when sitting down to read at the library isn't allowed. read more

Good library with a good selection. Computers are available and running at good speeds. All in all I like this library a lot. Just be sure you get there before 3 or after 5 as the legion of middle schoolers will corral there to play the Roblox or the fortnites or whatever whackadoo games the kids are playing these days. Back in MY day we played Nintendo N64 and you had to give the gift of your own breath to get the damn thing to work! *shakes cane angrily* now these kiddos just log on and they're there! Like just about everything in Murray, the Murray Library is a totally independent library system, which is to say it's not a part of the Salt Lake City or Salt Lake County library systems. While there are probably pros and cons to being a stand alone library system, I have to say that it seems to me that the Murray Library is better funded. I have no idea whether that is actually true, but they have implemented some pretty cool things. The children's summer reading program for one is so awesome. This program has done more to motivate my kids to keep reading throughout the summer than anything else year after year. The library also has iPads available for checkout (one hour use, in library only) and a decent computer lab. They've also had great children's story hours for various age groups for many years, and the building has recently been remodeled. And the people who work there have been working there forever. Even the librarians love this library! If I were to suggest the next area for improvement, I would say beef up the ebook catalog. The catalog is respectable, but I'd like to see even more titles available. All in all, fantastic library. read more

All of the technology of the new self checkout stations frees up the already-helpful library staff to be even more helpful which is nice. It also makes checkout really quick and easy as long as there aren't people in line who don't know how to use the stations (which is totally fair and understandable). The Murray library is a stand alone- not part of the county system, which is ok, but it means that I have to carry a third library card in my wallet along with my city and county cards. Any resident of Utah can get a card at the Murray library which is nice. Among the positives here are the movie selection, the wifi, and allowing food inside. However, the reading selection isn't quite as impressive relatively, and there aren't very many seating options for sitting and working while using said wifi. For some reason, most of the chairs are set up in a large circle facing each other (or in smaller groups all facing each other). I would rather have more personal work spaces where I can sit in privacy and try to avoid the loud groups of children that often make their presence known running around the library. read more

I've been coming to the Murray Library for years, and unless I move, I'll keep coming. In fact, even if I do I'll still keep coming back. The Murray Library has it's own system, separate from the larger Salt Lake County Library system, but I feel like this is a strength and not a weakness. They don't have absolutely everything I've ever looked for, but their selection is much better than you would suspect for it's size. Their collection of movies, tv shows, and books on CD is top notch-I really have no need for Netflix or Hulu. They're also adding more and more e-books, so the options are growing every day. Their employees are as friendly as can be, and I've gotten to know a few of them over the years. It's just a bunch of great people that love their job. The building is wonderful, and has gone through a couple worthwhile renovations the last few years. There are plenty of comfortable spots to curl up and enjoy your book choice, or study, or even catch a nap if you need to. The downtown library may be huge, fancy, and new, but the Murray Library feels like a home away from home. I highly recommend for any bookworm. read more

Hands down THEE loudest, noisiest, most disruptive library in UTAH! Large groups of kids hang out front of the building being disruptive, disrespectful and annoying. Then, you go inside for some more of the same thing. Kids playing video games on the computers and talking so loud people in the virtual world can hear them i'm sure! Then? little kids are allowed to run screaming through the library and the "librarians" do NOTHING, but sit behind the desk and talk talk talk. How on earth can this even begin to be a place of learning being as disruptive as it is? read more

For the most part it is a pretty decent library. It has lots of books, movies, and a friendly staff. One small shortcoming is that since it isn't connected to the City or County library system the selection is a bit more limited since you cant order from other libraries. The main problem is that from about 1-6 pm the entire library turns into a high school/ jr. high daycare. The entire place is inundated with these kids yelling and running around and the staff does literally nothing to quiet them down or stop them. If you need to do anything at this location during the afternoon or evening, don't, unless you want to be irritated by a bunch of tweens read more

Love this library! It is separate from the other library systems but personally I like this library a little more. It's nice and open and the staff is always friendly and helpful. It's easy to request an item that isn't available and they will pretty much order anything you want as long as it's reasonable. They have a little computer lab and I believe you can check out ipads which is pretty awesome too. I love that Murray Library puts on fun events. Hello Star Wars Day! I really had no idea that you could get such awesome things at the library. Clearly it's been awhile since I've checked it out. Along with your usual books, you can borrow eBooks, movies, tv shows, cds, etc. And not just your generic boring stuff. I mean you can get Glee, LMFAO, The Shining, Full House, and so much more. A great quant library, the gentleman at the front desk helped us get a library card and was probably the most enthusiastic librarian I have ever met! He was super friendly and did a great job at welcoming us into 'the library community.' We went in the afternoon probably just after school had let out, the gentleman at the front desk also did a great job at keeping the students voices/overly zealous attitudes at a minimum without coming off as a jerk. This is a nice library, but they obviously do not require children to be attended by adults, or for people to be reasonably quiet. I tried to go to get some work done & there were children running around (attended & unattended) throwing books & playing videos audible to everyone. If you need quiet to work, I would recommend another library:( read more

The library computers for public access have filters on them that block going to many websites that are totally harmless. This renders the computers useless and its very annoying. The staff is totally blind to this and totally inidifferent, providing adequate internet and computers is beyond them. They truly could care less. Physically attractive, this library is several hundred feet from the nearest middle school and is overrun by kids at about 1 in the afternoon. read more
