I love the Holladay library. This is a great place as well as amazing for local resources. You can use the computers all you want, check out books. This is a new and modern library, tucked away off the busy street so a perfect location if you're wanting to visit the library for a relaxing experience. This is a small library, but it has a bunch of Childrens books and its easy to order online and pickup books at this location. All the people working here seem extra nice and helpful. During the worst of Covid, the librarian went and especially helped me pick out specific Level 1 books so my son could work on his reading. And my love for the Salt Lake County Library System continues. This time I found myself at the Holladay Library. Today was a two-fer, as I was also picking up a book at the Tyler Library (the book is called Rebecca and it came highly recommended, in case you were curious) but tonight I just needed a place to come and work for a while. Yours is not to judge my nerdy devotion, but to learn from my library fondness. This library is a larger one than my little Tyler Lirbary, but in the grand scheme of things it's not a massive one. So having it be a part of a larger library system is amazing. More on that later. The Holladay Library sits on the south side of Murray-Holladay Road, just east of Highland Drive (think: east of where Cottonwood Mall was). You can park on that side, or you can turn down Bonair Street and park behind it and enter there. Inside it's portioned out into sections. I like the back section with the comfy chairs and tables for study. That's where the magazines are, too. There's also a long counter with plugs for laptop warriors. Teens have their own section, and there's a large, colorful kids section. There's a separate conference room, which is probably (?) available for rent as in other libraries. The computer bank is pretty small, which doesn't bother me too much; those things tend to get rowdy with people in and out. There are computer kiosks littered throughout for book lookup, and a small copy/scan station near the holds area in the back by the magazines. All in all, that's a lot of services, content notwithstanding. Content-wise, it's the normal: books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, fiction, nonfiction, kids, etc etc etc. Once in a while you might find a book sale or a few books on carts as they're trying to clear them out. Depending on the time of day, it can get a little rowdy here, noise-wise. It's not ideal for studying, but if you can study in a coffee shop, you can study here, for sure. About the library system: it's magical. I use it all the time, mostly to look up books. If they have it anywhere in the system, you can request they send it to whichever library location you want and you get notified when it arrives. Your library card also entitles you to tons of online resources, including the Overdrive app, which is loaded with e-books and audiobooks for your device, as well as streaming movies. You can also access other educational resources online, like educational how-to sites, or scholastic "members-only" sites. In the past, you could check out a state parks pass, but I'm not sure if that's still a thing. But did you know you can check out a telescope? Did you know you have access to 3D printers? Did you know you can check out a Community Exploration Card that gets you access to things like Discovery Gateway, The Leonardo, Tracy Aviary, NHMU, UMFA, and Red Butte Garden? Did you know your kids can check out a WEeLearn Tablet loaded with educations games and such? Did you know your library might be a fluorescent light bulb disposal site? Did I just blow your mind? Librarians were very unfriendly. When I asked, if the DVD return time is also 3 weeks, the librarian looked at me and pointed 1 fingers. I had to confirm whether she meant 1 day or 1 week. When I asked another lady's assistance to locate a book, she gave me a long face. Did not feel welcomed at all. Would rather go to a farther library instead. read more

Library hours in google are wrong!!! 11-7 pm Monday - Thursday and 11-5 on Friday and Saturday

I've come to the Holladay library to study a few times in the last couple of weeks, and it is SO LOUD, you guys. I'm not sure when this culture shift took place, but so many libraries I frequent these days seem to be manned by loud-talking librarians who welcome boisterous children whose parents, instead of correcting them, indulgently roll their eyes before returning to their above-a-whisper conversations. There is nothing wrong with any of those qualities or activities, but there's also a time and a place for everything. It's very frustrating. That said, this library seems to have a fair selection of books and audiobooks. If the hours were longer, the Holladay library might be a great place to visit with friends to sober up after a night on the town. As it is, this is not a great place to read or study in peace and quiet. read more

A great little library with full access to the Salt Lake County Library system. That includes being able to place holds online and have copies of books delivered for you to this branch from any other for free. They have a decent collection of books for a small library as well as DVDs and some publicly-accessible computers. And the express checkout with automatic book scanning works great! read more

I liked this place as it reminded me of the library I used as a child. I'd encourage others to come here. I have been going to this library for years so I am familiar with the space. Many things have changed over the years--and yes, it is noisier. All libraries are and this is both a good thing and a bad thing. You can wear jeans to the symphony too. I have found that I need to check online and order books in. Don't often just go to a shelf and pick one off. But that is how a small satellite library works. The staff is always friendly and helpful. read more

Good as far as a public library goes, and does what it should well. Computers, kids' area, plenty of books, TV series, CDs and DVDs, it does pretty well. read more
