Potentially the worst letting agents in the business. Their staff are polite and personable over the phone but sadly lacking in terms of efficiency, work ethic and moral code.
Having rented from numerous other letting agents in the past and never before encountered problems, I expected similar from Murray & Currie. Sadly this was not the case.
Firstly, they bungled our move in date, trying to charge us a week extra in rent. Then there was the broken door entry system which we were told for over a year that they were going to fix. And the broken light fittings. Then there was the water pouring out of our cooker and fan fittings which they refused to come and inspect. Not to mention the time they tried to charge us nearly £100 for sending someone round when we smelt gas in the property. Or the time the neighbour's pipe burst and turned the back garden into marshland and they wouldn't even come to see the damage.
The contractors they use are utterly hopeless. The handyman comes round, scratches his head and says he can't fix it...anything...ever. And then there was the man who came round and put a hazard sign on the cooker, saying there was insufficient ventilation for the cooker to be used. I was genuinely told it would be a criminal offence for me to use the cooker, only for the guy to come back a few days later, rip the sticker off and say he'd made a mistake (cue an invoice from Murray & Currie, demanding payment).
And a special shout out to Neil, the maintenance man, who makes more unfulfilled promises than a Tory manifesto. Anything to get the clients off the phone!
Alas, it seems the workforce are too busy posing for Apprentice-esque website photos to be troubled with insignificant matters such as property maintenance. Or tenants. Or property inspections. Or replying to emails. Or just anything that letting agents are supposed to do, really.
When we moved out, Murrie and Currie miscalculated the pro-rata rent we were due to pay, nearly doubling what we owed, and refused to stop the payment demand so that I had to cancel the standing order, work out exactly what it was I owed and make a direct payment to them for that amount.
The scale of their incompetence was such that it has taken me six months to recover and write this review (which is part of my therapy).
In summary, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! read more
