I just had a life changing appointment. I got the Brazilian Blow Out, cut and color. Katie, she is my hero! My hair looks like I've always dreamed it could be but I never got from any other place. The color is so beautiful. I've spent plenty of time in the chair of a hair dresser, told them and even showed them pictures of what I wanted and never ONCE have they given me exactly what I asked for. KATIE DID! She collaborated with me on the cut and it too came out PERFECT. If your are like me, always had an idea of what you wanted your hair to look like, paid a lot of money but it never ended up being quite right. Do yourself a favor, go visit this place. (First Time Visit) Arrived to my appointment 15 minutes early to fill out the common massage paperwork. It was one side of questions, took about 2 minutes. When I first walked in I was greeted with a smile and offered a drink. All the workers gather at the front desk discussing normal girl talk. It was loud compared to other spas I've been to. I didn't get to wind down and relax before my massage, I waited in the main lobby till it was time. The massage itself was good! I changed in the room where the massage took place. It was clean, played spa music but every so often I would hear the front on the salon. Just would of liked a more zenful environment. They run promotions every month so I will be back for another shot. read more

LOVE my new hair cut and color. I've been growing my hair out for months not wanting to bleach and color it anymore. My silver was showing and I wanted to try and match it. Lin did an awesome job blending the color so perfectly. She didn't use color on my roots, just matched the rest of my hair to the silver on top of my head. The cut is perfect too. Picture it.....I have tape in extensions in my hair. LOVE THEM! Somehow I ripped one of them out about halfway, from my scalp. I couldn't get ahold of my regular girl who applies them so I call Murphys because I live close by and I was headed out of town the next morning, I ask if there is anyway they could get me in to reapply it for me (it takes all of 5 mins) she says yes they would get me in and get me taken care of, I didn't ask how much it would cost (that was on me) BUT seeing how I pay 150 to have my entire head of them moved up after re growth I'm thinking 25 tops.....right.......nooooooo.....I show up, everyone is very nice, and in about 5 mins I am in my way to the counter to pay, where she informs me "today will be 55.00". W. T. F. Is she sh*tting me. 55 bucks to reapply an extension!! Beware ladies, I mean I'm all for paying for my beauty services but this place will never see a dime of my money again. read more

This is one of the worst beauty establishments I've ever been too. The owner will not honor her agreed prices. I was told a set price and walked out having to pay $20 more than the other people I was with for unknown reasons. The owner will cheat you out of money just to make a couple bucks. For the amount of money I spent, I had higher expectations of services and establishment. I walked in to see two receptionist dressed inappropriately. I absolutely loved this beautiful salon.After 16 years of Aveda hair styling experiencing I thought I was up to par. There is more than one was to pain a picture. Any time I did a hair cut and Lin Murphy was around my guest was whisked away or told she had to fix everything I did. She told me I could shadow her, she would teach me "her" ways, I would be sent to classes, I could watch super great DVD's. NONE of this happened. I was never given a chance to see anything I did wrong nor were any promises met about continuing education. I feel lied to, betrayed, and extremely disheartened. I really loved it there. I should have listened to countless fellow hairstylists with similar experience, and noticed the extreme high turnover when I went for services myself. If Lin keeps you, I assure you that your service will be great, however, working as a stylist, was the worst decision of my career. read more

This establishment is the epitome of beauty. You walk in very spacious and eye catching, every one is well dressed and very sophisticotated but none are stuck up, everyone is so nice and so fair. If you have any issues they will do their best to work with you. The owner is a very wonderful Christian woman and would do anything to help anyone, if you're looking for a new style or even a bang trim look no further, Murphy's retreat is the place for you!! Poorly managed place with an owner who believes she can do as she pleases because most people won't complain about her shady actions. If you ever see a price with a 'range' expect to be charged the highest price every time regardless of your situation, and don't be surprised if they give you one price at first and overnight (or during the service) the price increases just because. The stylists for the most part are ok, but the owner and the receptionist will take this place to the ground, they have zero customer service and always look for ways to take advantage of their clients, no wonder they have such a high turnover rate, those girls deserve better. And if you ever decide to bring a large group and they offer you a special price make sure you sign a contract, or they will for sure take advantage of your situation when you're left with no option... Or better yet, DON'T BOOK HERE you will regret it. read more

Yikes! I usually go here for facials. I decided I would give their hair salon a try. My bangs were cut so short and uneven they looked worse than Jim Carrey's hair in Dumb and Dumber. I've never been embarrassed by a haircut, but I was after this one. I will not go back. read more

Let me start by saying I HATE confrontations and it is very hard for me to stand up for myself - even when paying $$$ for a service. I was really scammed by Peggy at this salon. I had visited Murphy's Retreat for manicures, massages, facials, haircuts, and keratin treatments. All good experiences. Peggy was the stylist that applied a Goldwell keratin process in my hair at the end of last year. It was great! No frizz! No fuss! So I returned 6 months later - as it diminished. The day of my May appointment, Peggy was off her game. In hindsight, it was a day she probably should had not gone in to work. She was 20 minutes late - not overbooked, she was out shopping. She was then very rough while brushing, straightening, and blow drying my hair. My head hurt for 3 days! But I got over that. What I can't get over is her lack of integrity. When it came time to apply the Gold Well process and "lock," she looked all over the back rooms - for 10 minutes! (Apparently they were out of the products - she never said). She came back with a small bottle of something and poured the liquid in my hair - again, scrubbing very roughly. I asked her what exactly it's called and to see the bottle. She became very defensive and tossed the bottle across the room as she said, "I don't know! I just use what they send me." The rest of the appointment went downhill from there. She was rude, talking about family problems, and more rough styling. I paid the $350 for the Goldwell process - at the time, I was only about 85% sure she didn't apply it. She definitely didn't apply a keratin treatment! My hair has been frizzy and dry ever since. And, lots of breakage! I was looking forward to hassle-free hair for the summer. That didn't happen! All summer, I wanted to get the treatment done - for real! But instead, "punished" myself for spending the money and not confronting Peggy. My weakness! She took full advantage - and got away with it! I'm writing this now, as I am trying to decide which salon to go to for my next keratin treatment. WARNING!! Never let Peggy touch your hair/head! read more

I went on 9/26/2015 to have makeup with false eyelashes applied for a 70's disco party we were going to. There was places on my face with no makeup (upper lip, forehead). She kept wiping off different spots and didn't reapply. Eyelashes were loose in the corners by the time I drove home & she didn't fill in my lips on one side which I didn't notice until I opened my mouth to speak. I didn't notice the no makeup spots until I got in my car where there was light you could actually see. By that time I was mad and went home to reapply it myself. They don't have the lighting inside to do makeup because she kept turning the chair around to get better lighting. I guess the clue should have been when she told me she used to do makeup in the strip clubs for dancers. No one is really looking at their faces. Live & learn, but an expensive one for me. read more

Good Lord where do I start? My sister-in-law and I went to Murphy's as walkins because my normal salon didn't have anything available and she wanted her hair cut. I decided to go for a new style and OMG! Her cut took 45 min ( average) but mine TWO HOURS! It literally took 2 hours and it still is NOT what I had asked for. The first stylist completely screwed it up, I explained what I wanted, had a picture, and the dimwit literally gave me a standard bob, rather than an extreme angled. Seriously, how hard is it to understand short short in the back angling to long in the front? Pretty dang hard I guess. The owner finally came over, and moved me to her chair, where she proceeded to thin/texturize it to the point that I have now have a crap ton of different layers, and it is still not even close to the style. Then she has the nerve to charge me full price for a screwed up and I do mean seriously screwed up cut. Plus she has the nerve to tell me to come back periodically and she will work to get it to the style I want. Are you kidding me? I am thinking NO. On top of all of that, my head was so sore after I left that it is still sore 3 days later. My scalp feels tender and bruised and all night after the horrid cut it was stinging and burning from how rough both "stylists" were. Ladies do yourself a favor and avoid this pit of a salon. read more

I called on Wednesday August 10 to schedule two appointments for a Swedish massage. One for my mom and the other, myself. The lady confirmed put the time for Saturday at 11:15am for my mom and right afterwards myself, she took my last and first name, and phone number. Come Saturday we got there to find out that the people have given our appointment time away to someone who walked in that morning. The receptionist stated it would be only 45 min till they were done so my mom and I, already upset, said okay we will wait. We waited over a hour long almost 2 hours. At that point I asked for a facial and was told I couldn't have one because there was someone else with an appointment that was coming in, at which point made me feel so unimportant since they were so quick to give my appointment away. My mom and I were so angry at that point we decided to just leave, what made us more angry is the person that took our appointment, the parents of that girl came in, overheard and started to laugh at us. I don't like places that do not respect me. We made the appointment and if we knew if it's preferred to do walk in instead we would. We have been going to Murphy's retreat for years even before they moved locations. So disappointed on the service that we received and will not be going back. read more

I am not a complainer, but today I will make an exception to that after reading a review that was posted about Murphy's Retreat yesterday. I have been receiving services from Murphy's for years and for the most part have been pleased. But in my most recent visit, I saw Lin Murphy speak to one of her employees in front of one of her own clients with the utmost disrespect. Then she proceeded to verbally trash her employee to her client, which was very obviously making her own client very uncomfortable. She then started trashing other employees to the client, basically saying they are all useless and bring no value to her business. The comedy of the whole thing was Lin was ripping one employee who she says is always late. I stopped using Lin for my own services because she was never on time, ever! This is not my real name as I want to avoid the wrath of Lin Murphy. I will no longer use Murphy's Retreat and its a shame because my experience with the employees has been great but Lin Murphy is in clear need of Therapy. read more
