Definitely the place to go for any running, walking, or hiking gear. I haven't been to the store in years since my high school track and cross country days, and I returned to get fitted for some shoes suitable for my Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in June. The sales person took his time to make sure I found the perfect fit and he even reviewed why the shoes I walked in with were not good for my feet. I've gone to Murphy's for *ages*, and I'll probably stick with them in the future. However, their service seems to have dropped in quality a little over the past couple years. During my last few visits, the sales-person that I had was a very quiet and a melancholy character that didn't really seem interested in finding me the right shoes. He was definitely knowledgeable, but seemed bored. Additionally, price never came up when we were looking at shoes. In the past, the sales-people were normally pretty frank and upfront about the prices. I really shouldn't have to pry out that info. That being said, they do know what they're talking about and I like that they encourage you to try them outside - I don't see that level of trust in many other stores. The owner is quite friendly the few times that I chatted with him. Overall, I like that it's a local store, but I would really like to see them work on their salesmanship a little. Yesterday I went in to get a new pair of running shoes and I was very pleased. The salesman watched me walk a bit and told me that I have a problem with pronation. I had heard that before (at Fleet Feet) but he said that it was extreme. That was new to me. He showed me a couple options and I am very happy with my new shoes. They feel a lot better! Also, they were having a sale so my shoes were 10 percent off! Their return policy gives you 2 weeks and you have to wear the shoes indoors or on a treadmill but that seems fair to me. read more

These guys are good at what they do. They take time to listen, analyze your feet and gate, and have an excellent working knowledge of the shoes they offer. My husband, son and I have been very pleased with our purchases and referred many people. The shoes they sell are very high tech. I feel for businesses (shoe stores, opticians) that have to help people choose, what are basically prosthesis, in this case orthopedic shoes, that are a combination of craftsmanship, medical technology and fashion. The process has a steep learning curve for the customer and I think they navigate the inherent problems well. They selection is small, but handpicked. read more

I walked into the store, he asked my budget, what i will use the shoe for, told me to walk for a short distance for him, pointed out I am a splayfoot and off to find me a shoe that corrects it. I was given the chances to try it out and it fits well. I ran state in high school and NAIA nationals in college and this is the only place I buy running shoes. I am 46 years old now and the staff has revolutionized my running year after year. I go to see them annually for a new pair of shoes from Murphy's Fit. The staff fits me into a better shoe year after year. I am so grateful for this store as a lifelong runner. I bought my first pair of running shoes back in August 2013 from Murphy's Fit, and was in the market for another pair as mine have worn out. I went back to the store and one of the owners, Gary remembered me, which was awesome as he recommended the first pair I got. After spending almost a half hour picking his brain and trying different shoes, I finally found a pair that suited me and felt comfortable. Gary was amazing and was able to help me out throughout the entire process. As a runner I have incredibly high arches and require shoes that help correct my stride. Gary knew exactly the type I needed and was able to provide me a couple pairs within minutes. He gave me plenty of time to try on the various shoes, which greatly aided in my purchase. He was also able to answer various other questions for me regarding stride and whatnot. He was a great resource, giving even better info than some websites I've shopped around at. Overall I love this store and plan to spend a lot more money there over the years. I am a man with small, narrow feet with higher arches. I know this. I've been running since 7th grade, and went to State in the 1600 and 4x400 in high school....and I did it wearing (gasp!) "women's" running shoes. Fit matters with running shoes...something I'd expect the "experts" at Murphy's to know. With 7.5 AA feet, I'm used to wearing women's runners. But the guys at this store just couldn't handle it, and made me feel really creepy about it. Dude, my shoe doesn't have to be dark blue for me to be okay with my masculinity. They wouldn't even order me a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS claiming that they didn't think anywhere would have them in stock. Hmmm. That's why I just bought a new pair online, on sale, for $65! I try to shop local, but these guys need a lesson in customer service and perhaps some work on their gender issues ;-) They just lost me and my wife as customers. read more

Last week, I decided to get more shoes and found two pair that felt right, but since I was making some changes in size, width, and brand, the salesperson encouraged me to just wear them around the house. They were open until 6 today, and when I showed up at 5:52 today, the door was locked and they were vacuuming. I started to walk away, and the gentleman saw me, so he came to open the door. I asked if they were open until 6, since I had called 20 minutes before, from the train, on my way home to confirm their hours. He said yes, and did I know what I wanted to buy. I told him running shoes (they are full price and often more expensive than big box store, but I like to support local businesses ). He asked me if I could buy them in 5 minutes.... Really??? If I could give this store 10 stars, I would! Service, selection, price-they have it all. I needed a new pair of running shoes and both gentlemen were unbelievable knowledgeable and helpful. I expected the prices to be typical "specialty running store" prices (read: high) but they were actually comparable to what I've seen online and you can't get that expert custom fit buying shoes online! Beware, no returns! Sorry to slam this place since you guys like it, but since getting such fantastic service at Fleet Feet, I have something to compare it to. When I came into this store, a young girl was waiting on me. She seemed perfectly capable, but an older guy, obviously the owner, kept over riding what she was doing, suggesting different things other than what she was showing me. I found shoes I liked, then asked about the return policy. I was told there are no returns, period. You can exchange if you wear the shoes indoors only. I walked out without buying anything. A couple of weeks earlier my walking buddy had bought a pair of shoes there. Within one week they developed a hole in the toe. My friend brought the shoes back and was given another pair, a size bigger. They told her it was that her toe pushed a hole in the shoe. I think it was just a defect in the shoe. They gave her another pair of shoes. The replacement shoes are so big that there is half an inch between the shoe and her heel. They're huge. When she went back in to get another replacement, she was told that they would not replace them, that she shouldn't have worn them out of the store if she knew that they didn't fit. Sometimes there's a reason to shop local businesses instead of mega-chains or online stores: real expertise. This isn't your Sports Authority or Foot Locker with a bunch of high school kids making minimum wage; Mike and Gary have encyclopedic knowledge about the differences between each manufacturer's materials and history of previous models and their different fits. They have a number of previous years' models for a sizable discount, but you're still gonna have a hard time getting anything below $75-$85. Then again, these guys also seem like they refuse to stock and sell crap shoes. I was amazed that they could diagnose my arch and stride problems almost right away (maybe it's that obvious?) without my saying a word. Mike really took the time to try a variety of different shoes to match my needs while explaining the substantive differences without marketing jingo (e.g, "well the XCross TX4 soles have nano-shock 2 turbo technology"). Granted, I still got talked up to paying more than I anticipated but I can say it was well worth saving a trip to the podiatrist. read more

I'm not a runner, but they have always taken the time to help me find shoes that are good for everyday walking and for some reasonably-serious trail hiking that I do in AZ. They tend to not have some/all of the cheaper varieties of NB and other brands, if that's what you're looking for;; that's what the big boxes are for -- shoes that you can toss If the fit's bad. read more

Excellent in every way. This is the best experience I have ever had purchasing shoes. I took my son in for new shoes because he was joining the cross country team at school. I ended up buying a pair of new shoes for my Jazzercise class too. I was having a lot of problems with shoes I have purcahsed in the past even when buying high end brands. The staff at Murphy's evaluated my old shoes, my walk, my foot shape and found a pair of shoes that fit perfect. You can probably buy the same shoes at the department stores or big sports stores but you will not get service like this and as I found out, the same manufacturer makes many different fits. Personalized service for someone who wears an odd size. They fit me in a runner and then when they didn't have my dress shoe size they told me that and didn't try to sell me a shoe in the wrong size. I went to Murphy's Fit for the first time to look for running shoes. I do agree that they don't have the hugest selection but they do have great service! I went there for a few reasons, I like to shop small businesses to support them, and for fit. I was extremely happy with the service and my purchase! I went in with my son on a Friday afternoon. 2 or 3 employees there. Two customers being helped. We waited 20 minutes with nobody giving any eye contact, much less asking if we needed help or explaining that they will be right with us. So much for that.
